In highschool football: Grant beat McClatchy tonight 78 to 0....

and they were ahead 57-0 at the end of the first quarter (a new state record for points in a quarter) according to Jim Crandell on fox 40.

Ouch... my parents went to McClatchy :(

How do you give up 57 points in a quarter??? Lots of interceptions for tds would be my guess.

Grant Pacers...

scored 5 touchdowns in the first four minutes of the game and the 57 first quarter points is one off a state record for points in a quarter.

Also...

It could have been worse both coaches agreed to have a running clock at the start of the 2nd quarter for the rest of the game. My Senior year in highschool at El Camino in 97-98 we lost 81 to 8 to Grant.

Texas tricks

Hmm I have only seen one grant game this year. It's looks like they have been holding back their players so they can be a year or two older. Anyhow it's like men amongst boys.

I vaguely recall a news item on one of the local TV channels where high school sports have a "mercy rule" that prevents a football game from being continued if the point margin is something like 45 or 50.

But I guess it's for a different league or school district, and would not have applied here in this case.

I think the worst I saw out of my high school was 50 something to 0. The worst part was that one of the Visitor's scores came off a 98 yard interception return.

We were this close to scoring :)
