I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the switch to comcast, anybody with me?

I dont know what to do. But I am getting really close to switching back to digital cable. I'm currently with Dish Network, and havnt heard anything about getting the kings channel picked up. Any advice for me ? Should I wait a little more ?

I'm down with it. In fact, they are coming Sunday to hook it up. Damned if I am going to miss any games. I have DirecTV until November, if they add the channel, I will keep them. If not, see ya Dish. I have told them as much both on the phone and by e-mail. The $179 dollars I saved on League Pass will go a long way toward paying the $239 ComCast will cost me for the year.

I have a year contract with Directv that I signed in June. I can't dump them. But I did add Comcast, since they gave me the basic cable package which includes the Sports channel for next to nothing when I purchased the Cable Internet from them. I got a great deal. $44 a month for both. I dumped the DSL I had at $35.00 a month so basically it's like Im getting League Pass for only $9 a month and still keeping the better programming on Directv.

As much as I dislike Comcast I caved in and am praying for the best

They are coming in on Saturday to hook it up and I'll cancel my Dish at that time. Excellent deal going on right now for comcast

free installation, $30 a month for 3mos for Digital Silver (which is alot of channels and includes HBO).
After that I can drop to the expanded cable which carries the sports channel for a little more than I was paying for Dish.

If you can cancel your dish at any time, why not wait four more weeks? Maybe call comcast to see when the next available appointment is and make sure you can install before November, but if you can wait til closer to the season, why not? You'll be pissed off if DishNetwork ends up adding the channel after you switch.

Not really. For me the Dish(it's like karma they sensed I was ready to cancel lol) has been acting up lately. My PVR went out again (3d time in less that 2yrs) and I keep losing the satellite signal. When it was initially installed the guy said that I was lucky. If it had needed to an 1/2 inch to an inch further I wouldn't have been able to get a signal at all because of the building next to me and all the trees we have around my apartment.

(plus the Comcast deal ends on Oct 3d so I wanted to grab it while I could)

Here's an update:

Comcast Corp., which announced earlier this month that it would broadcast 58 preseason and regular-season Sacrmanto Kings games on a new regional sports network, announced Thursday that the network will launch Nov. 2 for the Kings' season-opening game. It also confirmed that it will broadcast a host of local college football and basketball games.

The new network, dubbed Comcast SportsNet West, will be available to 700,000 Comcast cable customers in a 350-mile territory that stretches from Visalia and Fresno north to include the Modesto, Stockton, Sacramento, and Chico areas. The network, which will be channel 34 in all Comcast markets throughout the region, will also be made available to all cable and satellite operators in the area. In addition, the network's coverage area will expand into the Bay Area to include San Francisco by January 2005, although NBA restrictions prevent airing of Sacramento Kings and Monarchs games in the Bay Area.

Comcast SportsNet West, which will be based in Sacramento, is the cable provider's fourth regional sports network. Others cover sports in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington and Chicago.

Upon its launch, Comcast SportsNet West will provide additional programming including warm-up and wrap-up game shows for the Kings, and WNBA basketball games featuring the Sacramento Monarchs.

The network will also include college sports coverage for California State University Sacramento football games, UC Davis football and basketball games, and Fresno State football games.

Additional programming on Comcast SportsNet will include selected college games from the Western Athletic Conference, Big Sky Conference and the Mountain West Conference. Comcast SportsNet West will be based in Sacramento.

I really hope this is true because I don't have Comcast or Dish.
I have Charter Cable. I used to have Comcast but my family moved and the area where we live only offer Charter. So I'm hoping Charter gets it or I'll just have to listen to the games on the radio like always.

Actually, the "links" are a picture that went with the article. I just didn't take it out. It's from the sacramento business journal online edition.

CLARIFICATION:

The article DOES NOT say the channel will be added by all dish companies. What it says is the channel is WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE to all dish and cable companies.

What that means is that if competing cable companies, DishNetwork and/or DirecTV want to PURCHASE the channel rights from Comcast, they can do so. Then, they can offer it to their clients - either at no additional charge or by charging for the new channel.

I get channels 2-69 including the Sports channel. I confirmed it with the sales rep when I ordered. It wasn't one of the specials they were offering. I had to do lots of complaining and negotiating and mentioning "I'll just stick with Directv then" to the guy to get that deal. Even had to go through the supervisor/lead guy to confirm it because it seemed too good to be true. They said that because we were a former customer in good standing that is now with a competitor, they can offer us (my wife and I) a deal to come back.

Now I might have missed it but it's saying it will air pre-season games but that the channel will launch Nov. 2 in time for the season opening game? So do we get the preseason or not?

Doesn't sound to me like it.

I need to call DirecTV and bug them on this. I have a feeling they'll just laugh at me since I have a contract w/ them. :(
Good luck with that. The first time I called, Aimee told me, as long as the Kings aren't your home market team (I had already explained they were) I should be able to pick them up on the Extra Innings package. I expressed disbelief that I could pick-up Kings BASKETBALL on a baseball channel, she expressed confusion about who the Sacramento Kings are (oops, thought they were a baseball team, which I found extremely odd, since I had asked at the beginning of the call about League Pass and the effects of the blackout rules) I may have been a little short with her after that. I think they water her twice a week.

I have had comcast for a long time. They were pretty good before they got bought by At&T, then when they were with At&T, they really disappointed me. Now that it's back under Comcast's new flag, I've never had a deal breaking issue with them.

They have the most superior customer service of ANY utility company that I've ever dealt with. I also use their broadband internet, and its speed destroys my old DSL with Earthlink, and Earthlink's customer svc is about as bad as it gets, unless you get lucky enough to get an english speaking operator. Then it's just marginally bad.

Plus, no contracts to worry about. If you don't like it, you are free to walk. I like Comcast so much, I'd love to work there, since it's a safe bet their management must be stable since their employees are so pleasant. I just can't say enough good things about them.

I don't know if anybody heard this over the weekend, but on Saturday (on the NBA Insiders) and on sunday (on the Pre Game Train) Comcast officials said that they expect a deal with Direct TV and Dish Network to be in place in the very near future. An announcement could be made within 14-21 days.

This whole thing has not been about money. That Comcast is not trying to put the screws to satellite customers. The reason why there has not been a switchover is because the Comcast deal came down so late, that there has not been enough time to form a collaboration with other providers. But they wanted to asure the fans that Comcast wants to expose this network and the Kings to the most people as possible, and...

that the Sacramento Kings WILL BE ON SATELLITE!!!!!!! :D :D :D

So if you have been contemplating switching over to Comcast, hold on, it sounds like help is on the way!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't $179 for League Pass cheaper than $239 for Comcast? And don't you get more games with League Pass anyway?

Personally, I'd rather go Kingless this season than go back to the (lack of) customer service I used to get from Comcast.

League Pass will NOT be carrying Sacramento Kings games for people who live within the blackout area. They did so last year ONLY because there was no contractual coverage for local viewers. Since Comcast now has the contract, League Pass cannot infringe upon it.

If the deal comes through with DishNet and DirecTV, people in the Sacramento area with satellite dishes will be back in business. Those in areas like myself will most likely be able to get the new channel on our dishes. People like 6th, however, who live in other states will have to get League Pass.

I think...
