I Have Realized That Kings Will Never Be Contenders...

#1
I'm not going to say a lot, but this year was just one big excuse. We had the referees against the Kings, we had the media against the Kings, we basically had the world against the Kings, but these close losses that all we can say was that we gave a great effort is not good enough. I have just realized that we traded away our chance at winning a championship not only this season, but for years to come. Maybe I'm speaking too soon, maybe I'm just talking gibberish.

I really don't know how to feel now. My heart feels like it has been ripped out and blown up. I don't want the Kings to be contenders in a few years, I want them to be contenders now.

All of the above words are just all my mixed emotions right now. Don't take any of it seriously. I'll wait a few weeks to see if I will feel like this permanently.

I think you need a nice long nap.

Being a Kings fan isn't always about being contenders.

Some of us from the old days tried to tell people to enjoy what they had while they had because it could get a LOT worse.

This ain't bad...I've lived through bad and this ain't it.

We still have Bibby, Cat, Brad and Peja. We have guys we haven't even seen yet. Are we gonna be good enough to beat the Spurs? My head tells me no, but it's not the playoffs yet and a lot could happen.

You have to take the bad with the good.

To say tonight's effort wasn't enough is simply not being fair to the team IMHO.

Want to feel even more depressed? It's gonna get worse before it gets better. We're getting three more new guys onto the team during a road trip when they won't be able to really get in any kind of real, meaningful practice. This road trip could end up going 0-6. And if it does?

I STILL LOVE THIS TEAM!!!!!

I feel your pain and I think a lot of us do XR.. Only one team can win it each year. We have been contenders the last few years but I think injuries are what stopped us. I think injuries are also was one of the main things that lead to this trade.

Since '87 only 6 different teams have won it all. We are still contending, things just gotta fall in place for it to happen. Don't give up hope yet

It is sad though that the old Kings never got a ring together.

But I feel your pain. I have been in a funk all day.

easy for you to say, VF. youve been a kings fan for many mnay years. the sacramento-era kings have been winners for 6 and a half years. there were 13 and a half years of losing that we cant forget, and i'm sure you dont forget. i was a little guy at the time, but i remember going to kings games to watch the other teams play....because the kings were just that bad. it disgusts me to no end the disrespect that gets thrown on guys like chris webber, who brought his heart and soul to this team, and brought us up from the basement of the league. people take for granted our winning ways....and deserved to be *****-slapped in my opinion. awful of me to say, i know, but i cant help it.

I'm 16 and so I haven't seen the Kings of old where they lose. I really don't know if I can handle it.

I live in Glendale, which is basically right beside Los Angeles, and I could careless what happens to the Lakkers or the Clippers. I love the Kings.

so what, we go 0-6 this roadie, hell we went 0-43 (that's right a season-plus) perhaps an NBA record that will never be broken - on the road. Feb was always a tough call (see my post way back in December). I hate the koom-bay-ah threads, but dayumed, we get the kinda effort we got tonight - what's not to love about these guys???????

Just for those who may not have known, here's the regular season records for the Kings beginning with the 1985-86 season:

37-45
29-53
24-58
27-55
23-59
25-57
29-53
25-57
28-54
39-43
39-43
34-48
27-55

And then, the magic started in the shortened 98-99 season, that actually all took place starting in Feb of 99:

27-23
44-38
55-27
61-21
59-23
55-27

It's been a good ride and it's not necessarily over.

You don't know if you can handle it, xrzn? You may surprise yourself. Look at the Cubbie fans and how long THEY handled it.

If it's in your blood, you're going to find out you don't have any choice.

Being a Kings fans isn't so bad, If you also consider I'm a hard core Raiders fan too. Now there your talking abuse by just about everyone (even my spouse).
Perhaps this is where my good attitude comes from. Come hell or high water I'm a fan for life. Those who can't display that level of dedication may just jumping on the the bandwagon, during the good times. Sure everyone loves to bask in the glory of a winning team, I'm no exception. But just like marriage, parenting or a lot of other things in life, you can't starting planting the seeds of negativity, otherwise it will eat you up.
Enough said....

How about the Red Sox fans...86 freaking years! Hopefully it wont take that long for us, and hopefully when we finally DO win a title, the team will still be here in Sacramento. its been 55 years since the Kings franchise has won a title...OR go to the Finals, for that matter. Whatever Geoff Petrie has in mind...as sad and twisted as it is right now, he'll let it be known in neon lights when he lets the cat outta the bag...something is up his sleeve to pull off a trade of this magnatude...I cant think of any other trade that would top this one, so obviously he has SOMETHING in mind that we dont have the foggiest idea about. I've been with team for all 20 years of existance in our fine city...I've lived through hardships that bandwagon fans(and we love ya none the less), but hardships and overall patheticness that you couldnt even imagine...but through it all, through the tragedies(Ricky Berry), through the tough times(37 straight road losses, Ralph Sampson, Pervis Ellison, Bill Russell, Dick Motta, etc...)but through it all...I wouldnt trade the love affair that not only I have, but and entire city bonding together behind our team...I wouldnt trade that for anything. May the future bless us with the ultimate prize, not only for the team, but bless the whole city with...an NBA Title. In Geoff we trust.

Thank you for this post. That is exactly how I feel. This team could be 1-50 and they will still be my favorite team. I hated basketball before Vlade and Peja earned my respect (long story). I don't care what their record is.

GO KINGS!!!!

^^ Same here. I choose to remain optimistic. Although I always want to see W's, I will not cease being a fan and loving this team even through the L's.

I LOVE THIS TEAM! GO KINGS!
