We're in the home stretch. Within the next two weeks or so (and hopefully much sooner) the final chapter of the Maloof ownership of the Sacramento Kings will be written and we'll know whether there will be a Sacramento Kings next year or whether they'll be gone, with the empty shell of the franchise dissolving into nothingness while the players head to Seattle to resurrect the Seattle Sonics brand.
It's been a tough ride, fellow Kings fans. We as a group have endured more than any fanbase should ever have to face. We have cried and then celebrated, only to cry again. We have held our breath and crossed our fingers, while we held onto all the lucky charms in our possession, hoping for one last chance.
Kevin Johnson has kept us off the ledge and given us hope. And the likes of Carmichael Dave, Crown Downtown and the other grassroots efforts cannot be diminished. We ARE Sacramento and for the first time in memory we have stood together with the city, crossed political lines that were of no importance, and done the impossible...twice.
As things head towards the inevitable conclusion, there are going to be those who only want to focus on the positives. Others will be less secure, hoping for the best but realizing it's not over til it's over. And some will seem hellbent on always bringing up the negatives.
Bottom line, we are all Kings fans. Some of us have been here for a decade or more, supporting this team we've loved even when there was little to love. Others are newer, but their passion also runs deep. You don't find incidental fans posting on a website dedicated to a team with one foot out the door.
We need to respect the differences and remember the things that bind us together. We need to accept that each of us may have a different way of dealing with the mind-numbing wait. We need to just take a breath and keep our focus on the prize,
WE ARE SACRAMENTO!
And we'll all be there together at the end. Let's just find a way to get there without killing each other.
Once, now and forever...GO KINGS!!
