There are many ways to gauge misery. We consider 10 factors, including unemployment, crime and taxes, and a few that are less serious, but still elevate people's blood pressure, like the weather, commute times and how the local sports team is doing. To account for the misery caused by the housing bust we tweaked the methodology for this year's list and considered foreclosure rates and the change in home prices over the past three years. What a weird list. Only two locations in Ohio and Michigan, with Flint and Detroit in the teens? Nothing in the deep south or PA? Texas, Arizona and Nevada all have some cities with big problems too. But they found room for at least half in California (in relatively minor cities outside Sac)?

I was looking at this list earlier, I didn't expect to see Cali up there so often. By the way, what the hell is up with having electrical power lines behind homes? I saw that picture in the Stockton, Cali. image.
