favorite boxer?

Not sure how many of you follow boxing or are boxing fans but my favorite boxer of all time Fernando Vargas is returning to the ring on Aug 20th on HBO. some of you from Ca may be familiar with him since he is a native of Oxnard. Had a stellar career and was the youngest to win the championship belt in his weight class at the time. Had epic battles against both Oscar De La Hoya and Tito Trinidad, both fights that resulted in heartbreaking losses. Admire him for his heart and courage and though in his last couple of outings have not been as impressive as when he was beating fighters like yory boy campas and winky wright I think he has a decent chance of making a true come back. Cant wait to see him perform and hope he gives it his all. Just really became a fan when I saw his intensity and ability to captivate people. Hope he can return to form. Some boxers are never the same after wars like he has had. Many of you will say the traditional Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson or others but I am really high on this cat and hope he can be back in the spot light and be considered among the elite again. Anyways, this all brings me to the question of who is your favorite boxer current or of all time is and why?

No question, Clubber Lang

Ok, in all seriousness, Sugar Ray Robinson.

The best middleweight ever, and my favorite boxer pound-for-pound. Imagine the physical gifts of Roy Jones Jr. but with a passion for the sport, unquestioned fundamentals and an indomitable will. This is the man whom Muhammed Ali considers the greatest boxer of all time. Who am I to argue?

My two favorites are a tie. Ali and Ray Leonard. Loved their style and heart in the ring. Mike Tyson was getting there until he went crazy. I loved watching Tyson early in his career. He was devastating. Then he got rid of Rooney and eventually lost focus. probably at his peak when he beat Spinks, but then the whole Robin Givens things....ugh. Really could have had a much better overall career with his early talent and devastating punching ability. He destroyed Larry Holmes (who was washed up at the time) and had other boxers deathly afraid to get in the ring with him for a while.

I loved Tyson in his early days.

I still think he is one of the greatest HW ever to box.

The problem with Tyson though is that he came back after prison. He obviously was not the same fighter he was before he went to jail. I have a lot of his fights on DVD, and his fury coming out of the corner never showed again after prison. Sad, because a lot of people will remember him for being the fighter he is now, rather than the fighter he was..

I have rooted for the local guys but they can't stay out of trouble with the law. We've had alot of Champs but everytime I turn around one of them is in trouble.

Diego Corralles, Willie Jorrin, Tony Lopez, etc.....

Mikey probably dropped the soap.........no one is the same after that.

I used to like Lennox Lewis, until he got his win against Klitschko handed to him by the referee and then sissied out of a rematch.

So right now I guess it's Vitali Klitschko.. his brother isn't bad, either.

Yup, i know he has a brother who box too, but i've not seen him fight yet. Anyway, Manny is a really explosive boxer, unfortunately i did not see his last fight with El Terrible.:( I hope a rematch is in the works.
