Expectations

Expectations is a fundamental part of each of our lives and when they are not met it tends to peeve even the most resilient. As applied to our team this year expectations have been all over the board. I'm sure many of us, at the beginning of the year felt we should be high seeds by simply outlasting the Laker dynasty. Even without Vlade we were confident a summer of healing for CWebb would set things right and even though DC was getting some age on him well, heck, Bobby would be back to pick up the slack.

Some of us (I among them) thought we were regressing by standing pat allowing Phoenix and Dallas to load up without fear and not addressing Peja's petulance, allowing he and CWebb to work it out. I said last June that we were looking at a 4 or 5 seed next year without making any moves. But as the trading deadline drew near it became obvious we needed help. Most of us expected Peja to be traded but, in a significant coup for the long term health of the franchise, it was CWebb who was shipped out, NOT FOR WHAT WE WANTED TO GET US OVER THE TOP IN THE PLAYOFFS but rather, for what we could get just to jettison his huge salary.

And this is the legacy with which we were left for the remainder of the season...do the best you can with what you have. So if we are bounced out of the playoffs in the first round it doesn't really surprise me because I really didn't expect us to go far anyway. But what I, and all of us, do expect in this fiduciary relationship is undying support by the fans and a legitimate effort by the team, top to bottom, to do their best to be winners this year and every year.

Many of us invest our time, treasure and emotions in the exploits of this team and our lives are enriched for having done so. I, for one, am proud we have a team with professionals running it ensuring our support is not in vane. Just being competitive is a significant improvement over the early years don't you think?

I agree wholeheartedly with your summation of what's been going on in the hearts and minds of a lot of Kings fans.

Do the best you can with what you have...

That pretty much says it all, IMHO.

I mentioned it last night somewhere and I'll rephrase it here:

We nearly made it to the top of the mountain. We got a long way but just couldn't get over the final hump. Now, we're returning to the base camp to resupply, to grab some new sherpas and maybe a couple of new climbers. And then we'll be attacking that mountain again!

And we'll make that climb and enjoy every step of it!!!

Thanks Rowdyone. Nice one.

You won't get much argument about what you wrote so we might have to bump the thread from time to time to give everyone chance to read it. ;)
