Witasick allowed just six earned runs in his last 29 appearances (33.0ip) and walked just nine batters during that stretch, two intentionally, while holding the opposition to a .185 (22-119) batting average. This marks his second stint with Oakland, where he compiled a 2-4 record with a 6.18 ERA (35er in 51.0ip) in 27 appearances, including three starts, from 1996-97. In 12 Major League seasons, which includes stops in Kansas City, San Diego, New York-AL, San Francisco along with Colorado and Oakland, Witasick has compiled a 29-40 record with a 4.60 ERA in 321 career appearances, including 56 starts.

Quintinilla, who was selected as a compensation pick following the first round (33rd overall) of the 2003 First Year Player Draft, was batting .296 with four home runs and 25 RBI in 78 games for Double-A Midland this season.
Earlier today, the A's acquired outfielder Jay Payton and cash consideration from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for right-handed reliever Chad Bradford.
