'Dog The Bounty Hunter' Arrested, Faces Extradition

MSNBC has learned that U.S. officials have arrested TV reality star Duane "Dog" Chapman and two family members for extradition to Mexico.
Chapman's wife told MSNBC's Rita Cosby that heavily armed U.S. marshals arrived at the family's house today and took away Chapman, his brother, Tim, and son, Leland.
Cosby said she was told that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.
In 2003, the Chapmans went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on rape charges.
Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term, but at the time, the Chapmans were also jailed by Mexican authorities for a brief time three years ago.
Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.
At the time, the Chapmans were charged by Mexican authorities with illegally capturing Luster. The three returned to the United States after posting bail of their own.

Well, I'm certainly glad he's off the streets. Now we can all sleep better at night knowing bail jumpers aren't going to be hunted down and forced to pay their dues to society.

Mexico has plenty of their own "real" criminals to worry about.

I don't watch his show on a regular basis, but from what I have seen and read about the guy and his family, they're very decent people, although very hard on the eyes. It's commendable how they've managed to turn their lives around. I hope they're able to fight these ridiculous charges.

My theory is that the Mexican government realizes that Dog has a lot of $$ and sees this as an opportunity to take some of it.

Reality TV star Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman, was released on bail in Hawaii late Friday to the cheers of adoring fans.

Chapman told fans that he was absolutely sure he would be vindicated on charges of illegal detention that go back three years when he and his posse went into Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and captured fugitive convicted rapist Andrew Luster, The Honolulu Star Bulletin reported Saturday.

Bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico.

Chapman was released from the federal lockup in Honolulu on bail under house arrest and was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.

He faces extradition proceedings that will determine if he should be sent to Mexico to face charges. He could get six months to four years in prison, if convicted.

Chapman's son, Leland, and fellow bounty-hunter Tim Chapman also were released under similar conditions.
