With all the new acquisitions the Kings made this team really reminds me of the 98/99 kings team. The 98/99 season was the time the Kings received a new group of players and did not peak for a few years. This current Kings team really reminds me of that old group. Artest is our leader as was Webber, Garcia is almost like a young Peja and we have a solid bench. Garcia is a more rounded player then Peja but Peja is at this point in time a better shooter. If you remember during Peja’s rookie season he averaged only 8.4 points a contest shooting 37.8 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the arc. Can Garcia turn into a better player then Peja after getting more playing time? That is a tough question and will probably get a lot of people saying no, but it is just a thought. Garcia has great court vision and a sweet stroke. His shot will only improve.
One surprising stat with the current Kings team is Martins tenure with the Kings is the third longest on the team behind Miller and Bibby. With a young team it is often tough to win on the road. The Kings have been proving that this year. The Kings also ran into road problems during the 98/99 season. Next season or the season after this team will jell and will definitely be a team to be reckoned with. The Kings are a few additions away from being a championship contender once again!
