Do we have a stretch four? (split)

I'm pretty sure that nobody around here who is excited about adding Giles to the rotation next year anticipated that Giles' value would come in being a three-point sharpshooter.
It appears that an outside shooter 4 has become an increasingly important part of the modern NBA game. Any of our future young core known as a knockdown 3 point shooter? Can Giles, Bagley, or Willie be that stretch 4?

Bagley shot 39% at Duke on 1.8 attempts per game. Not a lot of attempts but it's a good start for young guy. His foundation looks good in that area and with his drive/work ethic I think there's a good chance that his 3 pt. game continues to improve.

Skal is probably the closest. He shot so badly from mid range that he might as well focus on 3s and quit forcing those little jumpers.
JJ maybe, if he gets some muscle and improves his percentage.

Bagley will be our answer in time. At this moment, no we do not and I honestly don't care. I want Fox, Buddy, Bogs, Giles, and Bagley to get as much playtime as possible. We aren't good enough anyway to worry about such a specific role. We need to develop our young talent anyway possible.

If Bagley and Giles are going to be the frontcourt of the future then I believe this is Bagley to start and Skal off the bench. If not I don't know. But I certainly hope we don't sign a person for this role with a bigger need at SF and so many bigs on the roster right now.

Once we move on from Z-Bo by the end of the season, figure out if WCS fits, if KK is a guy we keep, etc. then we can worry about this.

It's more important that we have someone that can guard a stretch 4, rather than have one ourselves at this time. Giles, from what we've heard, and Bagley should be able to hang due to their athleticism.

As far as spreading the floor for the Kings, it's done with Joergers offense to a degree. I know a lot of folks hate it, but the reason he has the PF trailing the PG is to keep the floor open and for the PG to be able to probe the defense before both big men get down there to setup in the post. If you have either a good passing big man, a good shooter, or one that can take his man off the dribble, then Fox can leave it for the trailer and the offense gets initiated with the PF out of the key and the floor spaced. Now, once you get deeper into the shot clock, you fall into a traditional set and score wherever the opportunity lies. Either inside or out. It's not Houston or GSW, but it's how he's doing it.

P.S. I neither condem nor condone Joerger's offense.

And all the opposing team does is "wall off" Fox from going to the basket in the meantime by using three defenders. There sure as heck better be a better plan than that next season. I want to see guys sprinting up the floor like their lives depended upon it. I want to see Bagley grab a rebound, outlet to Fox, and race down the floor to catch a lob slam dunk at the rim. Also, when Fox sees "the wall" being formed I want to see a lot more of Fox quickly throwing to the wing, who either makes the open three or whips it immediately to somebody at the rim or back to Fox, who by then won't have "the wall" in front of him, so he can take it to the basket. The fast break last year was ineffectual and slow-mo compared to what it really could be. Forget the slow and controlled break. That's for ancient Spur players who need a walker. I want SHOW TIME! I want BANG-BANG-BANG - YOU'RE DEAD!

Vlade repeatedly said in his post draft pressor that he feels Marvin can play anywhere from 3-5.

His shooting will get better with time and i would say our FO is very high on his potential and potential ability to space the floor.

I just mentioned this in the FA thread and didn't know there was a thread on it.

My answer is currently no. Unless Skal commits to taking the three, I don't think they have a real stretch four and having one would benefit the offense a ton.

I would also pay attention to Nigel Hayes in SL and see how he's come along. He has size and showed he could play some defense last year. His issue was just looking awkward on offense at times.

I don't see stretch 4 as a big area of need. Skal is a good outside shooter. Bagley hit the college 3s and should be able to develop in that area. It's the small forward position that really needs some help.

He signed on a Friday and played the next day. Like I said in another post elsewhere, I of course can not wait to see the game Monday for our obvious core, but Nigel intrigued me. He had no time to learn his team mates, our system etc, and yet still intrigued me every game he played.

His shot looked good, just looked like some jitters to me. His defense was the cherry for me.

In my head I am picturing a very long ( bucks like ) roster that pushes the pace and shoves a large, athletic, ball movement, pnr and lob oriented front court down the current smallball league's throat and becomes the new description for the way the league is trending.

As I said, in my head, i.e. A wish and opinion :p

So excited for what I am hoping we see this season.

You don't need a 3 point shooter, you just need a perimeter shooter. A guy hitting a 21 footer consistently is just as good at making defenses respect the perimeter as a 3 and D specialist.

Bagley can. That is why we went #2.
Giles is a question mark.
Willie is destined to be a back up player unless he gits with it.
I don't see 3 point shooting as a requirement for a capable player at the 4, but they have to be able to make from 15-18 feet or so, beyond the foul line.,
