Delly leaving Kings to return to NBL on two year contract

Good for Delly.

He did exactly the job Mike Brown and the Kings needed him to do this year in terms of being a coach on the floor, turning up the intensity in practice, and being a veteran mentor for this relatively young Kings team. Now he gets to go back home and get more playing time and the Kings (hopefully) can get a more impactful player to fill that 3rd PG role going forward. Win win.

Yeah, I agree 100%. Especially the bolded part, where our guards had cited a few times throughout the year about how much it helped to face Delly in practice daily. Wish him the best and for us to find a 3rd string PG in the future.

Happy for him but sad for the Kings. The following players could be gone:

Barnes
Delly
Metu
Len
TD
Holmes

plus potentially a coach or two. That’s a fair amount of turnover for a team with great chemistry

I hope we can retain coaches but I'm ok with moving on from any and all of the players listed above. TD hurts but Davion is a better bet. Frontline needs improvement over the 22-23 team.

The following players could be gone:

Barnes - a total non-factor when needed (playoffs).
Delly- played like 5 mins
Metu - about as inconsistent a player can be and still be in the association
Len - a valueable player
TD - a folding chair on defense
Holmes -yeah right!

Im talking chemistry here, not production. Yes it matters, as that was one of our calling cards last season.

turning over half the team or letting go of leaders can have a negative effect. Ask Iman.

Unless Holmes is stretch provisioned, I think he'll be back next season. I'd put the probability of a trade pretty low at this point.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back Len based on what he showed at the end of the season when he got regular minutes, but if you can upgrade the backup C spot you definitely do that.

Davis is likely gone unless there's no market for him and he comes back on a similarly team friendly deal. Otherwise that spot will need to be filled by one of Keon Ellis, a FA signing, or a draft pick.

Metu and Delly are gone. Delly hurts from a culture standpoint, but the Kings can almost certainly get better on court production from a new 3rd PG. Metu has some intriguing skills but just is too much of a PF/C tweener for a team that needs a strong backup C.

It sounds like Barnes will return and it's just a matter of working out the contract. We'll see.

The one other FA you didn't mention is Lyles, who I absolutely want to see back next season.

Iman was a totally different time. If Fox and Sabonis aren’t ready to take the leadership Bull by the horns, then we’ve got some problems.

hopefully. Occasionally you can grow into it but often you lead or don’t. And of course leadership comes in many forms

We did have some problems, namely failing at taking over the Dubs reign.

I obviously would love for Fox/Sabonis to actually become leaders but I'm okay with bringing HB back for a lower rate and bringing him off the bench just to keep some vet presence.

Cool.

Interested to see what we do with that 3rd string PG spot, the Kings have some flexibility with Mitchell and Monk around.

I can't see the org letting go of Len - just way too much value there and never complains. Total pro - there when you need him, and always on time!

The rest I agree with - with the possible exception of Barnes. Unique idea: sign him to a one year contract which is automatically valuable at the deadline as an expiring. This gives us another year of vet presence to solidify our culture and also bides us time to draft, develop, or trade for his replacement.
