David Thorpes First Take on Cousins in the 2010 Draft

D13

Bench
From ESPN;

1. Wall
2. Johnson
3. Turner
4. Monroe
5. Henry
6. Griffin
7. Aminu
8. Booker
9. DeMarcus Cousins, Kings
- Remember, this is a look toward the first month or so of the season, not where I think the rookies will finish the season. Cousins, who was the No. 5 pick, clearly has the game to be special, and he should get there soon enough, but it's not going to be easy for the Kings to play him a lot in November.

The team acquired Samuel Dalembert who produces with proper minutes, and will feature Carl Landry on offense. Jason Thompson, the Kings' 2008 lottery pick, should also be a rotation player. Thus, Cousins will be fighting for minutes early in the season. But as the season evolves, he'll surely rise in our report.

Horrible assessment. He's thinking business as usual. Westphal plays those that are hustling, and they also realize he's the center of the future and he WILL get minutes, because the Westphal and the organization knows that it's essential for his development.

I don't know about you guys. It seems you are over-reacting too much because you DID NOT READ VERY WELL what was written.

Please read the bolded part.

I'm reacting to Thorpe's premise that DC's minutes will be so limited that 8 players will outproduce him. Only 3 rookies averaged more than 28 minutes last year. I think he'll get mid-20 minutes even early on, within a few minutes of all but a few guys, and enough to likely outproduce four guys listed ahead of him here.

Well, outside of Trevor Booker (I still can't believe he was a first-round pick) and maybe Xavier Henry, everybody else on that list is pretty much stepping into starters' minutes. (Though I expect Aminu might play his way onto the bench...) That doesn't necessarily mean they'll all outproduce Cousins, who was one of the most efficient players in college last year, but they've all at least got the inside track to get more floor time. We have a lot of players to distribute our frontcourt minutes among, and while I expect Cousins is a lock for 20, maybe he doesn't start out outproducing guys like Monroe and Wall who will be playing 30+ off the bat.
