Collins for Davion, Barnes and 2 second rounders?

#7
Am I the only one who would prefer to keep Harrison Barnes? He perfectly fits with Fox and Sabonis. He's a reliable and consistent player.

I have no issues trading Davion + filler for Collins. I'd like to hold onto Barnes and try to get an extension with him. Davion is much more replaceable than Barnes.

If we trade Barnes, then who plays the 3?

We're not trading Davion.

I think other teams are underestimating how much Sacramento values Davion Mitchell. He's not just another piece, his attitude and intensity are integral to our hopes of improving into an above-average defensive team in the near future. Having Mitchell on the team is probably the biggest reason Monte was willing to pull the trigger on trading Haliburton. I wouldn't say that he's untouchable, but he's not going to get packaged and trading for anything less than a foundational piece. Collins is a good player but I don't think he's at that level.

He was probably the least consistent player on the team last year

If you're willing to take on Collins' 4 year $100million remaining contract, you can't view him as anything less than a foundational piece. Isn't the whole reason why we're interested in trading for him is to add another piece with Fox and Sabonis?

Haliburton was the assumed culture guy, and we had no problem shipping him off for a better player. I think Davion will get the same treatment if the deal fits. We're trying to build a winning team, but there's nothing that suggest the current group of players can win together. Maybe Mitchell becomes our Marcus Smart, but I have no problem trading him if it means we get better.

With the lack of shooting in our lineups, Mitchell will never be more than a bench player for us unless he becomes a good 3pt shooter. I think fans are overrating his value. He's arguably not even a top 10 player in his own rookie class.

Fox, Collins, Ivey would have some serious highlight reel potential. Defensive questions of course but Harrison slows us down, he can't get up like he used to. HB/Holmes for Collins?

Well then he's both overpaid and not a foundational piece. :)

I'm not Monte McNair obviously, but from my perspective the only way I'm trading Davion is if I'm adding an All-Star level player. I feel like his impact on the defensive end and in the locker room is that important. If Collins is an All-Star level player, why is Atlanta trading him?

If we could get Collins for Barnes and a protected first next season, then take Ivey I will lose my mind.

Fox
Ivey
Small Forward
Collins
Sabonis

That’s intriguing. Moreso than any other Kings team in recent memory.
If we could get Collins for Barnes and had a big hole in the SF spot I think I'd seriously ponder the trade back deals and grab Benn.

But I'm in the "replacing DDV isn't top priority camp".

Sooooooo, why would Atlanta want Murray?
I guess it would be to help take the load off of Trae but him being a Harden-level iso creator is what makes him good in the first place.

Capela (who they're also trying to trade)
Hunter
Huerter
Murray
Trae

is such a small lineup that Hunter and Murray's defensive skills might not be able to make much of a difference anyways. Makes no sense.

Value mostly I'd bet. IIRC it always seemed like Murray was on the outs with Pop prior to busting out. Maybe he still isn't a fan, but then again, this might be old news and teams are using someone that's been dangled previously to raise value. I just don't think teams would buy anyone taking Barnes or the Celtics limited assets over Murray. That's borderline ridiculous. They obviously had conversations and the Hawks must have let it leak when they figured out the real value of Collins.

Yeah I'm also in agreement with you about Collins. He's a solid starter, but there's a reason why Atlanta has no problem trading him. I remember when NBA fans thought trading Reddish was a mistake because people thought he was PG-13 in the making... I think the Hawks know something we don't. I know they want to make a FA run next season, but trading him means they possibly don't view him as the 2nd, or even 3rd best player for a contending team.

They also have Onyeka Okongwu and Jalen Johnson from the last two drafts who are pretty similar to Keegan Murray in size and are also in that combo forward or small ball center role, though neither one projects as a floor spacer. I'd rather have either of them than John Collins on a $100 million contract. What they should be doing is dumping everything they have into an offer for DeAndre Ayton. A core of Trae Young and DeAndre Ayton would keep them relevant for a long time. But they blew up our Bogdanovic for DiVincenzo deal so they could dump everything they had at the time into making Bogie an offer and that's why they're capped out now so eff em.

Honestly, was there something about the Wilcox deal that made them mad at us or what, because I'll never understand why they blew up the Bogi deal and then threw stupid money with the poison pill in it instead of actually working a reasonable S&T out.
