CDave on KHTK opinions?

First off this post is going to be all over the map.

At first I liked Carmichael Dave's show because he actually talked about what one would expect on a sports station... SPORTS!!!!!
I just wanted to see what others think? Am I being an ahole? Do others actually listen? I like CD and his on air personality but I think he would rather talk about Nintendo games and UFC then discuss what most people in Sac town want to talk about... We want to talk about Kings, Football and then the Giants. It’s funny how interactive koz’s show is right before him and then CD comes on and there is little participation from the peeps.

So now our work hours are filled with some stupid check out my sac music on a sports station, call in to win UFC tickets,

The first hour is nothing but him and Shawn talking about him losing his laptop cable. I was just wondering if Dave was actually going to talk about sports on his show were viewers can participate.

I have always said to others “TURN THE STATION” if you don't like the show and I would if KNBR actually had something good at this hour. Worst of all I actually change over to DR Laura when CD's show gets really sidetracked and sports is no longer a topic. I say again DR LAURA!

CD MY REQUEST IS THAT YOU TALK ABOUT SPORTS!!!!! I like you and your show, but can we have some real sports talk on a sports talk station?

Don't mind my spelling/grammer its my only night to have a few cold ones

He said on one of his recent shows that he would literally go insane if all he talked about was sports. A lot of people have already criticized him the way you have.

I like his show but i have to admit that check out my sac crap is pretty ludicrous for a sports station.

I've listened and now I forgot about him until now. That should say it all.

Honestly though, I have not tuned in enough to make an observation. So this post is pretty much pointless.

LOL well lets see how long he lasts with that attitude. Hey HELLO talk about what people want to. I am sure he has a year contract so lets see from there. Cannot wait until someone actually talks about sports in that time frame. I didn't realize this was KWOD ver. 2

ahhh. it is what it is.

Believe me, I listen to the feedback. If there is one thing I have learned in the short few months that I have hosted the show, its that you can't please all of the people all of the time.

For as many people that I get telling me to crank up the sports talk, I get just as many (if not more) telling me that its refreshing to hear other things come into play, especially since there is already 5 straight hours of sports talk preceding me.

When I stated that I would shoot myself if I had to do 3 hours of straight sports every night, I was mainly thinking ahead to summertime. With baseball the only main sport running (plus monarchs)...filling 3 hours with just sports can get taxing, and boring. That's just not me. Its not what I was hired to do.

Believe me, the powers that be had a decent idea of what they were getting with me. Sure, I have pushed the envelope, but I did it knowingly. I figure, throw some things out there, experiment a bit, and see what works.

Let me be frank. I started as a caller. I will always carry around the "fan" part of me. Maybe if I had moved markets, and was doing a morning show on a sports station in Memphis or Tampa, it would be easier for me to be a "professional, objective journalist". But my name says it all....I was born and raised here, and I am still very much a fan....albeit a fan with a microphone and a forum.

I do appreciate all the feedback, good and bad. I am learning as I go, and l am listening to all sides. Finding a happy medium is the key.

I hope people will look at the show much like they look at a rookie in sports. I feel like I was finally drafted into the pros, and I am feeling my way out, learning the system, and hoping to contribute. Hopefully, eventually I will be a player you can build a team around. Its not like there's a handbook to all of this. I still take everyone's opinion personally, which most of my colleagues have learned to tune out. I know that no matter what I do, there will still be people that absolutely hate what I'm doing, regardless of which direction I take the show.

I can only hope the teeter totter slides more towards the positive.

Either way, thanks for the feedback, and if you can always email me at carmichaeldave@hotmail.com

Thanks,

CD

PS: The KWOD comment is actually kind of funny, being that I came to KHTK from that station 3 years ago (before 2.0)

Dave, thank you for responding...

I don’t think you have to worry about people in Sacramento wanting to talk baseball for 3 hours. Grant try’s every year to get chatty about baseball and nobody seems to care. Not sure if it’s Grant or the fact that it’s baseball.

I can say a lot of positives about your show. You do come across as the guy next door, you and Shawn talk just like I yap with my friends. Gay jokes being the king of all conversations. Overall I think your guys are pretty damn funny.

I said what I don’t like which is the lack of sports talk so I am not going to beat that horse anymore. It is what it is and I think the callers dictate the direction. If everyone wanted to talk sports I am sure you would get nothing but sports calls.

You said it best in that you are a fan, so when you do talk about sports, I think you are giving us more of a fans perspective and that’s definitely a strength you have. It’s a perspective none of the other hosts can give us.

As a listener /non-caller I think it’s pretty cool when a host listens to both good and bad criticisms. You are so right that most of the hosts don’t care what others think and I like that fact that you did respond.

The KWOD comment was meant to be funny :) V2.0!

CD responed here, I find that pretty cool.

Anyways, I don't get around to listening much, but when I do, I love the show...I really like how it's able to blend in alot of funny stuff with the sports talk...

And I love check out my Sac(ramento)...the last time I heard it there was some drunk guy who was in a band selling band paties...I dont remember the name of the band, but it was some funny stuff!

Keep up the good work, CD...I love the show.

I agree with talk about sports more and I also agree with talk about other things. It's just the other things that Dave talks about i am just not that interested in. I did enjoy the whole Duke Lacrosse Team Scandal even though I did not agree with much of what was being said.
