Edna Campbell, a longtime starter for the Monarchs, is now a Silver Star. A six-year WNBA veteran and breast cancer survivor, the free-agent guard signed a one-year contract with San Antonio after four years in Sacramento. Terms were not disclosed.
"San Antonio is gaining not just an amazing athlete but a phenomenal person," Monarchs general manager and head coach John Whisenant said. "Edna's efforts both on and off the court have made her a well-respected player in our community and we know that San Antonio is very lucky to have her."
Campbell, 36, will give veteran leadership to San Antonio, which is coming off a league-worst 9-25 season.
In 2004, Campbell missed a dozen games during the regular season due to a left hamstring strain. Her scoring average declined in 22 starts to 3.4 points -- less than half her 8.2 career average.
Campbell returns to Arco Arena on July 14 when Monarchs host the Silver Stars.
