Brett Favre is Playing Games

I am not a Packer fan, but Favre is a joke to me right now.

Favre still hasn't decided whether to play next season

TUNICA, Miss. -- Brett Favre, one of the NFL's great quarterbacks, is still unsure if he will play another year with the Green Bay Packers.
Favre "No change. I don't know, once again," he said at a brief news conference Saturday from the site of his charity golf tournament.

"I don't know why you guys wasted a trip down here. The Packers and I will make a decision at some point soon." The 36-year-old Favre -- whose grit, durability and cannon arm have become his trademark -- is the NFL's only three-time MVP (1995-97).

"I know people are getting impatient," he said. "But enjoy baseball right now." :eek:The Packers finished 4-12 last season, their first losing season since he joined the team in 1992. Asked about the makeup of the team, he said the Packers need to "make a statement," and he mentioned the acquisition of Reggie White before the 1993 season, which immediately upgraded that team. Favre insisted he has not made up his mind, and he is not withholding his decision. "No, I don't think that's fair to the Packers," he said. "If I knew one way or the other, for sure, and I wouldn't tell the Packers or not tell the media, that's unfair." "I think the Packers have to go in a certain direction at some point," he added. "When I do know, I would tell them as soon as possible -- maybe within the next week. It has been a strain on the family as well."

Favre ranks second behind Dan Marino on the NFL's career list in touchdown passes (396), yards passing (53,615) and completions (4,678). He holds the NFL record for most consecutive starts for a quarterback with 221 (241 including the playoffs). Favre has led the Packers to six division crowns, restoring success to one of the NFL's most famous franchises. The Packers won the 1997 Super Bowl in New Orleans, a 35-21 victory over New England, returning the Lombardi Trophy to Green Bay for the first time in 29 years. Last season he threw a career-high 29 interceptions and failed to throw for more than 20 touchdowns for only the second time since 1993. There are concerns about the team's offensive line, which struggled last season after the departure of stalwart guards Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera to free agency. Favre also wants to make sure the Packers are going to be competitive after a dreadful last season. Speculation about Favre's future has become an annual rite of winter in Wisconsin. He has spoken of retirement in years past, only to return. Through it all, there has been a string of family troubles. His father died in December 2003. His wife, Deanna, survived breast cancer and mourned the death of her brother in an all-terrain vehicle accident. Several members of Favre's family in Mississippi were displaced because of Hurricane Katrina.

It seems pretty obvious the man has had a LOT going on in his life. If he wants to take time to decide whether or not to go forward with another season in the NFL, then he's going to take the time. He's been in the league a long time. He's not the type who will stick around and become a mockery of his former self. If Favre is thinking about retirement, it's going to be a BIG step. I personally don't have a problem with him taking all the time he needs to be as sure as possible he's making the right decision for himself AND for the Green Bay Packers.

It is April 8.

I do agree that he has earned the right to take his time, he is a HOF'er. But according to all sources, it was he or his people that called the press conference for today, then turned around and said "I don't know why we are all here today". Jerome Bettis did not go back and forth. Granted he has a championship, but Favre knows what his team is going to look like next season. And his body knows what it is going to feel like next season.

To me it just seems like he is forcing the Packers to do something they do not want to do or can't do, knowing that they will not cut him. And until they do it, he will be in no hurry to decide. Not realizing that he has 52 other teammates to be accountable to on the eve of Spring workouts and the draft.

I find it odd that Favre and Steve McNair are represented by the agent James "Bus" Cook.

According to all sources?

Brett Favre has always been a class act IMHO. I simply cannot imagine him doing anything to jerk the press or anyone else around...

My thought is that we cannot possibly know what's going through his mind. Perhaps his wife's health is once again in question...we just don't know. This sounds more like a BSPN "non-story" more than anything else...

Why would he force the Packers to do something they do not want to do? It makes no sense...

29 interceptions. That should be all he needs to know about retiring. The Packers aren't going to suddenly be great this year, and favre staying around another year (and throwing..what? 35 interceptions) won't help the team. Plus he'll retard the growth of Rodgers, or any other potential QB that the Pack will need for the future.

Really, if he wants to play...cool, but his heart doesn't really seem into it (he's said as much in interviews). I think if he plays another season it's gonna be embarrassing for him. He just throws the ball up for grabs all the time.

Forcing their hand to sign a big name free agent that would improve the team. He wants the team around him to be better. I can't be mad at him for that. But if the Packers have not done anything by now, who is to say they will in the future.

I don't blame BF for stalling if the Packers are allowing him to, but if this is about family and the health of your wife, I think that would be more important, he should tend to that and bow out gracefully.

Well I don't think GB wants him back. I think best thing is that he goes to a team that needs a few small pieces and would benifit from him. A similar style team IMO would be Chicago.

Would love to see Farve in Da Bears Uni but thats not going to happen.
