Basketball greats meet again

Well, he might not be a world legend, but Jure Zdovc is a legend in Slovenia and I'm sure Europe knows him too. He played a lot of important games in his career, he was also a member of the famous Yugoslavia team before the country fell apart in 1991. He retired from basketball a few years ago, but this game will be his way of saying goodbye to his days as a player. He invited his old friends, his former teammates, but his rivals as well.

I'm sure that those of you who know a few things about European Basketball will recognize the great legends and legends in the making.

Here is the list of players who will participate in the game:

Jure Zdovc, Vlade Divac, Aleksandar "Sale" Djordjevic, Zoran Savic, Predrag Danilovic, Zarko Paspalj, Dejan Bodiroga, Predrag Stojakovic, Toni Kukoc, Dino Radja, Radoslav Nesterovic, Beno Udrih, Primoz Brezec, Sarunas Jasikevicius, Jiri Welsch, Marko Milic, Stojko Vrankovic, Velimir Perasovic, Zoran Cutura, Peter Vilfan, Dusan Hauptman, Matjaz Tovornik, Slavko Kotnik, Roberto Brunamonti, Richard Dacoury, Panagiotis Giannakis, Lefteris Kakioussis, Radoslav Curcic,

Coaches: Dusan Ivkovic, Zeljko Obradovic, Dragan Sakota, Bozidar Maljkovic, Zmago Sagadin.

But the thing that makes me lose my mind is that I will be there live! The game will be played tomorrow in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana (I live 50 km away). It's like a dream come true to see such class acts together. And finally I can see Vlade and Peja! I can't wait. I'm so excited!

Oh yeah, and another thing. Aleksandar "Sale Nacionale" Djordjevic is planning a farewell of his own on the 3rd of July in Belgrade. There will be even more stars there, but I can settle for this ;)

What a game this was folks! The score was 104 : 93, but who cares. The game was full of great passes and dunks. Let me just say that some of these players haven't been working out as of late (the past 5 years), so they were a little slow to say the least. I guess they pulled a Greg Ostertag :D

There sure were a lot of funny moments. Divac is a true legend, he kept arguing with the refs and even got a T foul. It was hilarious. I want him back with the Kings!!!

It was really special to see these guys together again after all the sad things in the past 15 years. I'm only sorry that Peja couldn't make it. Oh well, I'll have to wait until September and Eurobasket 2005.

In the end it was really sad when Zdovc made his exit from the game. He was a real worker and one of the best defenders in his best days. We could use guys like him in Sacramento. After he left the court he was given a replica of the gold medal Yugoslavia won in the European Championships in 1991. Zdovc played on that team, but had to leave before the semifinals, because Slovenia was to separate and become an independent state. It's sad when politics interfere in sport.

Well, the thing is that Jure Zdovc invited people he played with and his bitter rivals. Those guys don't have any connections to him in any way. Personally, I would invite them all! ;)

Oh, I didn't take any pictures, the camera and me aren't the best of friends.
