Are there any Sharks fans in the house?!??!

Watching the San Jose Sharks this year has been just like watching the Kings...

I overestimated both teams at the beginning of the year...

Both teams started out terrible, made a huge trade or two, and both are now back in the playoff hunt...

It has indeed been a wild rollercoaster ride...

Look at what the Sharks have done:

They went 9 - 12 - 4 in their first 25 games. Then they made a trade for Joe Thornton, who is now the best scorer in the game. Since the trade they have gone 25 - 11 - 6 which has vaulted them up to playoff contention. It has been quite an uphill battle, and it isn't over yet.

I know that hockey isn't the most popular sport, but is anyone here sharing my excitement for what the Sharks are doing?

I like the Sharks and would root for them, but I have to admit that I haven't been following that closely this year.

Maybe it's because I'm still upset when the NHL had a lockdown the previous year.

But the biggest reason is that I don't get too excited until the Stanley Cup playoffs begin. That's when even some of the better teams can get knocked out of the playoffs in the early rounds. And the Sharks have a history for eliminating some taking out some higher-seeded teams in the first two rounds.

So, I'll hold off my enthusiasm for now, until the playoffs begin in a month or two.

But I think the Detroit Red Wings are the team to beat, though.

I hear ya. The playoffs are completely different than the regular season. It's been exciting this year because as we have climbed back from the dead it has been almost like a playoff atmosphere. We will get to the playoffs but this year will be tough to win it all. Detroit, Nashville, Dallas, LA, and some canadian teams are standing in our way. And I don't think any of those teams want to see us in the first round. ;)

How can you be interested in a sport whose season runs parallel to basketball season?

Your priorities are out of whack.

Yup, Sharks fan over here ...

Sharks - Kings - Warriors - A's - Giants - 49er's - Raiders

They're all the same ...

But, I still root for 'em all ...

I guess I fall into the same category as slugking50

Given the NHL team I root for is hundreds of times more likely to attain a championship than the Kings this season, I'm more than happy to stay out of whack this season.

To make a parallel between the NHL and the NBA, the Ducks are the NBA's Kings and the Sharks are the NBA's Jazz, a lot has to go their way to get in now...
You couldn't be more wrong about your analogy. The sharks and kings are exactly the same. One key trade has vaulted them into the playoffs. The ducks are just that, lucky ducks. And they may be hot but they are not deep enough to go past the 2nd round.

I see we have a bandwagon Detroit fan here. Well thats all fine and well but remember which 8th seed team upset detroit in the first round some years back?

Yup, it was the SHARKS!!!!!!!!

Trust me, you won't want to see us in the playoffs. (and vice versa, hehe) ;)

I'm a SHARKS fan, but unfortunately have only made it down to two games this year. I really like having the SHOOTOUT after one OT to avoid the tie. It was really exciting. Personally, I think the SHARKS, LIKE THE KINGS, may make some noise in the playoffs this year. I can't wait!!

Look at em now!!!

Clinched playoff spot tonight!

Joe Thornton is top 3 for pts and #1 assist man in the NHL and Cheechoo is tied for 2nd for goals. These two could be the biggest combo on ice in a while.

Gooooooo Sharks!

I remember that one. It was during the 1993-94 season. The Red Wings were expected to eliminate the Sharks early in the playoffs. But the Sharks suprised everyone by hanging tough, and making it go to the maximum seven games in the series. And in that 7th game --- and in Detroit, no less! --- the Sharks upset the heavily-favored Red Wings by winning that game. I remember seeing how the Detroit fans were so pi$$ed at their team, they started throwing squid on the ice rink! Sweet! :D

Well since the Kings got totally f'd in the arse by the Artest suspension, I've decided to move my focus to this part of the forum.

The Sharks won a huge shutout in game 2 vs. Nashville and it is clear that we are the better team. In fact, our goaltender Toskala has not allowed a single 5 on 5 goal in the postseason. This is a tribute to our recruiting and our defense. It is play like this that can win the Cup. We have two huge home games coming up, and although we are dominant at home, Nashville is still a scrappy team. We cannot give them ANYTHING. And I am confident that we won't.

Game 3 prediction: Sharks 4 Nashville 1

Go Sharks!

Screw the NBA!

Round Two - Round Two - Round Two !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :d

Thats right baby!!!! YEAH!

Sharks get some time to heal them bruises and get ready for Edmonton hopefully. There is no team that can beat us in a 7 game series. The only team that can beat us is US.

Go Sharks!

Look at the Sharks now!!!

I've seen many playoffs for all of my sports teams but no quest for the title has gone down like this. Everything is falling into place. The Sharks now have home-ice for the rest of the western conference playoffs and that is huge considering we only lost something like 8 games in San Jo. We are getting great goaltending, great defense and great offensive production from a very young and inexperienced team. But where we lack experience, we excel in talent. And we have arguably the best coach of our time. When you watch the Sharks play their style you sit there and think, who can hang with us? The answer is no one!

As I have said before, the only team that can beat us is us.

Now we go into Edmonton with a 2-0 series lead. Anehiem is playing well and it looks like we are going to have a new NOR-CAL / SO-CAL rivalry.

I can't wait to see the cup in San Jo.

Go Sharks!!!
