The previous owners decided they didn't want to have anything to do with the Charlotte Sting anymore, so the Sting are currently under the "custody" of the WNBA itself. It will be that way until another buyer can be found. There was a Charlotte-area businesswoman surnamed Sisson or Sissoon, who was trying to lead a group of investors to buy the Sting and keep it in Charlotte, but it looks like she missed the purchase deadline (not enough investors willing, I guess). So, there is talk of having the team moved to Kansas City.
Personally, it's a little sad that the Charlotte Sting, which was one of the original WNBA teams that started in 1997, might be uprooted. But the team's management is largely to blame. They haven't been the same ever since Anne Donovan decided to leave the team as its coach. I remember reading somewhere that while she enjoyed her time in Charlotte, the owners either didn't make her feel comfortable to remain with the team, or that they left Anne the impression that the support for the team wasn't there. Also, having Trudi Lacey coach the team for so long did not help matters either.
If the Sting do move to KC, will they remain in the Eastern Conference?
