[Rumor] Amick: Scott Perry is “Thinking big”

I don't have a ton of faith in Perry other than I expect a little more excitement on draft day from him. Beyond that, I think it will shine a light on Monte's tenure and this difference between having an all numbers analytics approach is vs. a smooth talking hustler. In a lot of ways this feels like the same sort of overcorrect that Vlade was over the gerbil dude. But if we have the right talent scouting and analytics guys working behind the scenes maybe it won't be as big of a disaster.

At this point I am just stunned at how bad we have fallen from the fleeting high we felt that we were actually building something special in 22-23. Numb is more like it.

I'm not really "mad" about Perry, persay. I'm mad at the circumstances he was hired under; 12 hours after monte fired. And as we expected, Doug remaining HC without a search. Would he really be the guy Perry went with, or was that attached to him taking the job?

I just want to be able to judge a GM without the shadow of Vivek over every move. Seems like that absolutely happened to Monte at some point. Its likely starting from day 1 with Perry. Just sad.

If none of them are on the roster, hopefully that means a full reset, which is very exciting.

I would be beyond stunned if we traded our big 3 for another similarly talented big 3. Treading tires to the max

He mentioned a reset not being the path. They are going to “go for it”. Perry is going to bring in the guys he wants to build the roster around. We really have no idea who those targets are outside of Garland. Who knows if he will be able to actually pull it off.

It also seems incredibly unlikely just in terms of how the cap money would work and post-trade roster space rules.

Ham said yesterday that he wouldn’t be surprised if none of our big three were on the roster in July. Not sure how I feel about it
I would welcome this, as long as we are committing to something else, such as a scrappy defensive-minded team or using the assets to get some younger exciting guys (preferably both things).

I’d be much more excited to see that even if we aren’t as good next year vs watching more of what we saw last year.

I’d even settle for getting rid of DDR and getting a rim protecting 4 and going back to playing fast like the beam team season.

Perry might be looking at New York flailing looking for a coach and thinking he might be able to flip some roster spots (they’re also reportedly looking at Mike Woodson as a potential head coach option lol)

Welp,

So what's with the rumors of us trying to trade up? Something not mathing here. If we're going for it, we wouldn't be spending assets to get a more premium rookie. We'd be spending our surplus picks on a win now upgrade

I dunno. The rumor that we were trying to trade up came from Barlow, who knows if there is anything to that. It wasn’t super specific just that he heard the kings were among the teams trying to move up.

I think Perry’s just examine all his options and doing his due diligence right now. Like if the Suns really really wanted to trade us KD for Jonas and a first or something, I’d be fine with forgetting about a rebuild and at the same time if a team offered us a “Jalen and Josh want to play with Mikal Bridges at all costs!” Package for Domas, I’d be fine with just flooring the rebuild pedal for a season.

KD is picking his next team and he isn’t choosing us over San Antonio or Minnesota

If we are going to grab a 30 year old point guard the “thinking big” would have to be trading Lavine and or Sabonis. Unless it’s packaged with picks for a CLEAR upgrade, I would rather be patient. We could run a Smart, Lavine, unknown wing, Keegan and Sabonis lineup and keep the first round picks stacked for a swing. Enough national media members have mentioned the kings that I think it’s pretty like something other than Deebo is about to go down.
