Amick: Adelman works Wells back into rotation

All-Star
ATLANTA - In truth, Bonzi Wells had been out for 30 games.
Even if Mike Bibby saw it differently.

"He's been taking the whole year off," the Kings' point guard joked. "I figured he'd come back sometime."

That time was Friday at Philips Arena, where Wells returned for the second time from his torn groin injury and logged nearly 20 minutes in the Kings' 102-93 win. With shooting guard Kevin Martin retaining his starting role, Wells entered for the first time with 4:51 remaining in the first quarter against Atlanta. He finished with just three points and two rebounds, but the other statistic - zero setbacks - was the most vital.
"I took an MRI the other day, (and) they said my groin is OK," Wells said. "And now my mentals are OK. Now I just have to get back into basketball shape, and get that rhythm."
Coach Rick Adelman said he learned Wells would play at the morning shootaround, when the two spoke about how to approach the return.
"I wanted to keep him around 10 minutes a half," Adelman said. "And I wanted to get it (to be) sustained minutes, so that's why I didn't start him, and he played the last five (minutes) of the first quarter, the first five of the second quarter. I think it worked out."
Is this the routine for the time being?
"Yeah, I think so," Adelman said. "I think we're playing well right now, and he's got to work himself back into it."
The help was welcomed given the loss of Francisco García to a sprained ankle Wednesday in Cleveland. The swingman received treatment for the second straight day and is trying to make a speedy recovery.
"Hopefully I'm out less than a week," García said. "That's what I'm shooting for right now."
The Future is now - Shareef Abdur-Rahim returned to his roots for the first time since his hometown team traded him away.
And the homecoming came with a price he was willing to pay.
The forward grew up in Southwest Atlanta and played for the Hawks from 2001 until he was dealt to Portland in 2004. He also established the "Reef House," an after-school program in Atlanta that is part of Abdur-Rahim's Future Foundation. More than 20 kids from the program came to the game, and Abdur-Rahim secured 60 additional tickets for family and friends. "It was nice," said Abdur-Rahim, who had 12 points. "If it affected anything, it was everything leading up to the game. I didn't sleep as much, was running around more than I do in a normal game. It was fun."

That's good they've talked it over.

SAR might want to change the name of his after school program the "Reef House". :D Kind of sounds like a Tweaker Pad.

I love that guy, a real gentleman and professional. He's doing good coming off the bench and not complaining like KT would be doing if he was in SAR's shoes right now. Let's keep this lineup, we are clicking now. Add some Bonzi off the bench with SAR and Garcia and we will be o.k. It's really interesting to see what happens at SG with KMart doing so good and Bonzi getting his legs under him and being in his contract year. Very interesting indeed. :D
