[drupal=122]All-Star break[/drupal]

As we wait for the All-Star weekend to unfold, we Kings fans have a lot to be thankful for, especially when you compare this year to the past few.

We have two young and exciting players in the Rookie game, and another rookie who is rapidly winning the hearts of Kings fans with his grit and determiation. We have more wins right now than we had all last season and we have more road wins than we managed to eke out in all of 2008-2009.

We have a new coach, we have a new attitude and we have a new look to Kingsfans.com!

I personally am a very happy Kings fan. We’re seeing a team grow together, despite a few setbacks, and we’re seeing young players who simply don’t know the meaning of the word “quit.”

Do they make mistakes? Oh, yes. Do they make us scream at the TV in frustration and pull out our hair? Yes again. And are we having a lot more fun than we’ve had in a long time? Oh, hell yes.

There will always be a few Kings fans who have to find something to criticize, have to find the dark lining of every silver cloud. But for each of them, there are more Kings fans who are enjoying this ride that has just begun.

There’s a piece of writing that was popular back in the 60s called “Desiderata” - which was first thought to have been found in an old monastery but turned out to be much more contemporary. When it was written isn’t the point, though. Part of it says: “Avoid people who are vexations to the spirit.”

There are some fans who are indeed vexations to the spirit. They seem to think it’s immoral or illegal for some fans to be happy without them stepping in to point out that things aren’t as rosy as some of us might want to believe. You know what? That’s fine. They’re entitled to their opinions. And I, and the rest of us who like to view the glass as half full, are entitled to enjoy what we’re seeing on the court from our young Kings. I, for one, am more actively avoiding the vexations to my spirit. I’m watching this young team come together and I’m enjoying every step of this wonderful journey.

No, the Kings aren’t perfect. Yes, there is room for improvement. But for me, during this All-Star break, I’m renewing my vow that it’s about the name on the front and as long as someone is wearing the uniform of my beloved Sacramento Kings, they have my support.

So, fellow Kings fans, let’s take a breath and get ready for the rest of the season. Enjoy the good times and accept that they’re just beginning to develop their skills and come together as a team. And us? We’re lucky enough to be invited along for the ride.

GO KINGS!!!

Speaking as a half-full fan, I'm still excited about this team and can't wait till this break is over to see if these guys can continue to climb.

To me, and this is just how I look at sports, if I can't enjoy watching the team, I do something else. Life is too short to be upset all the time. And I think the most fun as a fan is when the team is young and struggling and the future is unknown.

Having been on all sides for several teams and sports, I think it's much more fun to be on the way up than at the top. At the top there is so much pressure to win, a win is expected and becomes routine. Losses are much harder to take.

But on the way up, every win is something to celebrate because they are harder to come by.

Good post VF, but I can't help but think what you would have said instead if we would have lost to the Knicks and the Pistons...but we didn't.

I'm glad that you talked about (mainly) the rookies, because they are the FUTURE (+ Greene/Thompson) of the team!

I might have talked about Evans winning Rookie game MVP. Of course, if he hadn't won I would probably have talked about something else...

;)

congratulatuion Tyreke!

he is the best no doubt, the kid is a level above the rest.
now i just wanna start a donation for a smile implant for Reke, come on man smile it cost nothing!
Omri and Tyreke you gave a good show an i am proud of you guys, espacially since it is the first rookie team that wins this game in 7 years (and Casspi played center a few minutes lol).

I'm pretty sure there was a bit of time where Reke was center. The Rooks just Nellie-balled their way to victory.
