Wanted to post something different from all the negativity/tank talk and get everyone's thoughts on what were the "right" moves to be made to continue to build off of the 2022-2023 season. Here's a recap of what happened, how the moves turned out, and my thoughts. Also feel free to move this thread if there's a better place for it.
Key 2023 Offseason Moves:
This is from a very high-level view so feel free to dig deeper if you'd like, but curious to hear the forums thoughts.
Key 2023 Offseason Moves:
- Draft: Selected Colby Jones (34th pick) and Jalen Slawson (54th pick) in the 2023 NBA Draft. (0/2)
- Draft Trades: Traded draft rights to Jordan Walsh to the Boston Celtics for Colby Jones.
- Key Re-signings: Re-signed forward Harrison Barnes (3 years, $54 million), forward Trey Lyles (2 years, $16 million), and center Alex Len. (Decent, but did not improve the team)
- International Addition: Signed EuroLeague MVP Sasha Vezenkov to a three-year contract. (Miss)
- Guard Depth: Added Chris Duarte via trade with the Indiana Pacers. (Miss)
- Key Departures: Terence Davis and Matthew Dellavedova left in free agency.
- Jerami Grant (5/$160M) - Awful and would still be hampering us
- Cam Johnson (4/$94.5M) - RFA - BK would of most likely matched anything
- Draymond Green (4/$100M) - Huge swing for culture/toughness? What's our ceiling?
- Khris Middleton (3/$93M) - Awful
- Kyle Kuzma (4/$90M) - Awful
- Dillon Brooks (4$86M) - This is the one
- Dillion Brooks - Based on age/fit/need/ability to acquire - this was the move to make, MEM was going to be moving on from him and the cost was minimal outside of cap space, we would then lose Barnes/Lyles
- 2023 NBA Draft - Not a whole lot of moves here, but could of tried to trade up to draft Cam Whitmore/JJJ to add a young wing, then in the 2nd round a player like TJD as a backup 4 to help fill the gap for Lyles
- Sasha Vezenkov - Could actually get some playing time as the backup 4 and we could of seen what we had or we simply don't sign and try to trade his rights/save $7M/year in cap
- Trade Keegan? - No secret he was the key in a lot of trades for another "Star player" Siakam/OG
