LONDON - A Scottish distillery said Monday it was reviving a centuries-old recipe for whisky so strong that one 17th-century writer feared more than two spoonfuls could be lethal.

The Bruichladdich distillery on the Isle of Islay, off Scotland's west coast, is producing the quadruple-distilled 184-proof — or 92 percent alcohol — spirit "purely for fun," managing director Mark Reynier said...

There are plenty of folks in the US still distilling white lightning at or near 200 proof... it's harsh but if its it the punch you want we got it local!
 
Booker's Bourbon, a spirit made by Jim Beam, tops off at about 130 proof. Bacardi makes a rum with a 151 proof.
This 184 proof sounds like a fun time.

Anyone ever have Rackiye(sp?)???? Its a drink made in Croatian homes and is offered to guests when they arrive. Its taken in very small amounts (capful) and after trying Booker and Bacardi 151, I would have to believe this is somewhere near the 200's. If anyone has more info on this Croatian drink, please let me know.
