Amick: De’Aaron Fox requests trade

The best player is checked out and killing the flow. If we have to sacrifice a little now before a lot later … it is what it is.
No way am I selling just because Fox is throwing a fit. If we can’t get a decent deal then Fox is gonna have to wait. He can sit out or take his ball and go home, but I don’t want to do a deal just to get one done. Forget about this season, it’s cooked. Fox got us here. I hope the fans place the blame where it belongs.

We should not "have to" make a trade, we should find a trade we "want to" do.

If a GOOD trade isn't available then DON'T do it.
This season is starting to feel like a write off at this point. Way too much of any emotional rollercoaster. If we top it off with a stupid trade I just might be out for the rest of the year.

I swear, I thought only the Kings could leave their fans totally devastated, but listening to various Mavs podcasts today is really sad. Thank god Vlade passed on Luka so Vivek couldn’t put us through that. lol

This is the normal thought process for most trade situations and while it sucks the Kings aren't making a normal trade on a normal timeline with this. They're trying to get ahead of a potential freight train headed their way. If you take the Mavs reasoning as any truth you can see how serious it could be when things like that come into play. The smart plan was always looking at this deadline then waiting, but that might not be doable any longer. Too much is out in the open now. If half the league called? I'd bet that far less than that call back this summer. When the league is listening and making their pitches you take the best offer and move on. When you either aren't serious about re-signing a player and wait, or a player isn't serious in re-signing then the team is up against it, it just is what it is. It doesn't really matter what you consider a "win" as long as it's not a total negative in value like a horrible contract, or giving picks up to move someone. Doing it this way is always going to yield more than waiting for something like a sign and trade which if it's the Spurs that are interested it's not even necessary. They have the tools to get that done now, or then.
