Mike Brown Fired

One thing to keep in mind, is Doug survived the Walton/Gentry year. Maybe he sticks around no matter what the staff is?
I would assume some sort of understanding that it’s a caretaker role and they’ll move him somewhere else within the org next year. But that if he somehow miraculously turns it around he’d get consideration to make it permanent.

Are the kings gonna fire Monty too? Or are they gonna let him hire the next coach AND THEN FIRE HIM?

That’s the sign that they are back to being the kangz.
How they handle this next hire and who does the hiring,
I would think with interim coach Christie Monte now has until the end of the season and then everything is done.

Wasn’t there a rumor Vivek wanted Christie and had to be talked into a seasoned coach? Or did I make that up.

Maybe “Better than Brown’s current disaster” will be enough for the team.
Not sure, but wouldn't surprise me. Vivek seems very easily persuaded by the aura of former nba players. His organization has been littered with them in high ranking spots for his entire tenure as owner

This season has been awful, but this seems like a knee jerk reaction to last night's fluke loss.

I've had plenty of issues with the job Mike Brown has done so far this season, mostly around not playing Keon and the terrible defense on threes, but I don't think this is the solution.

At this point I suppose it doesn't matter all that much. It's a major uphill climb to make the playoffs and this team as constructed just doesn't have the size or horsepower to do much even if they were to make a run.

Just super frustrating all around.

It's very well possible. It's not really the best look on the franchise to have a nepotism baby that you plug in to every new coaching staff but Vivek is capable of anything.

We just don't really know if Christie is an effective coach in any manner. He toed the company line and just repeated the same pro Kings propaganda that Grant did on TV and the radio. I even called in one time about the WCS high post offense being an inefficient waste of time and Doug completely disagreed with me. I'm sure he was just being a good employee but it doesn't help us figure out if he actually has a sharp basketball mind in 2024. Half of his old tricks from 2002 are going to be irrelevant in today's game. I'm curious to know if he has any new ideas or if his philosophy is completely different from Brown's when it comes to the X's and O's.

It really is odd that he wasn't in a higher role on this staff, such as the head defensive coordinator,....but is now the head coach.

What it probably does, is tells us this is totally a Vivek move. I don't think this is from McNair

Blowing 2 double digit leads with 4 mins left is on the coach.
What about losing ELEVEN clutch situation games in the span of 31 games?
Look, I was like one of the biggest Mike Brown supporters here but by the last two weeks it looked fairly clear that most of the team had quit on him/whatever he was saying was not getting through to them AND a lot of the schematic changes that needed to at least be attempted never were.
When a situation gets as bad as this one, heads will roll. And the guillotine just got brought out.

Wow

I guess I’m not surprised after last night and I doubt Mike was surprised with how his presser went…but it only keeps going from here. Some players are likely next followed by Monte.

So there is a shock of reality that this thing has fallen apart. It makes it official that we’re not just struggling to find our shot or get in rhythm. It’s not a “bad start”
It’s a bad season. It’s for real now. The beam team is over.

What an absolute disaster

Super frustrating, indeed. It sure does seem like the Kings are the only team in the league who could be five games under .500 at this point in the season while still sporting a positive point differential. And you could look at that statistical reality a couple of different ways. Either the Kings have been snakebit this season and unlucky in close games. Or there's something wrong with the team's approach and execution in the fourth quarter. That last point would seem to fall at the coaching staff's feet.

Now, I don't think Mike Brown should have been fired. I just don't think you fire the head coach who actually managed to deliver a winning record in back-to-back seasons to an absolutely moribund franchise who hadn't finished over .500 in over fifteen years. You don't fire him at mid season, anyway. I mean, what's the point? If you're banking on Doug Christie to rescue this season, well, that's some Kangz-level desperation. Maybe he'll be a good NBA head coach. I suppose we'll see. But you've not done him any favors if his long-term goal is to head coach in the NBA.

It also feels like Doug was always going to end up the head coach of the Kings at some point in his career ever since the moment he came back as a color commentator and was (correctly, I should point out) one by one breaking down every single thing he would do different than the current coaching staff in pretty much every single game he would call.
Him doing a fairly okay job in the COVID season when Alvin Gentry got sick pretty much only solidified his name as future coach.

What’s funny is that Bobby Jackson left the Kings coaching staff to pursue a better chance to become an NBA head coach only to have his friend beat him to the top by staying lol.

A lot of you were on Browns ass the whole year. Don't try and save face now
The majority opinion on this message board was that everything was Brown's fault until about a week ago. Kings Fans turned on Fox immediately after he did that interview with Draymond, and when he said he wanted to play for a winning team.

Ya, but the difference is, Doug knows what he’s doing.

You know the second Fox leaves/is traded, that swirling ball of hate is going to immediately bounce towards the poor bastard who moved him lol
