Keegan “KEEGAN MURRAY” Murray

#61
Only through three quarters but ANY ****ING QUESTIONS???
How many people on the Interwebs, and here at KF.com, said that Keegan was too old and didn’t have a ”high ceiling” leading up to the 2022 NBA Draft and throughout most of the 2022/23 season?

I sure remember hearing A LOT about his age, limitations and how Jaden Ivey should have been the pick. We’re not hearing much of that now….

BIG mistake by Keegan in that game. Now that we know what he can do, we will expect it every night.

I can anticipate it now on here:

"What's wrong with Keegan...he only hit 40?"
"Oh no. Keegan's off tonight...he is only 10/15 on 3's."
"Didn't set a record this game....trade him."

Just wait for it.

not me. Had we picked another guard I would have flipped.

"It kind of reminded me of my last year in college," said Murray, the fourth pick in the 2022 NBA draft out of Iowa. "I'd get hot, and I would just black out for a little bit, and so everything would just go in. That's kind of what happened in the third quarter."

this is what is referred to as the "flow state" where you just shut the noise off in your brain and everything is in proper motion and effortless. I get this feeling when shooting around outside, doesn't always come but when it does, its a high

Can anyone explain the Keegan trade rumors? I don’t have social media (outside of this forum).

I tried googling but only found something about the Raptors asking for Keegan and Kings saying they won’t trade him.

Were there other rumors the kings were looking at dealing him or something?

No, they aren’t looking to move him. As you said, the rumors have been about what those potential trade partners want in return.

He really is a 6’8 Klay Thompson template with even more all around offensive and defensive potential.

I agree with sactowndog in the game thread that it helped that the particular Jazz matchup doesn’t force him into a draining defensive assignment. They were smart not to have him on Sexton full time…. but I don’t mind Brown forcing this issue. It’s a unique situation of trying to develop Keegan within a winning team. I think he has done well.

Eventually he’ll find the balance like in the Brooklyn game where he played great defense against Bridges and also had an excellent offensive game.

Though I don’t know if we want him chasing around guards all game even if he can. Especially Curry. That’s where the Kings will need to make an addition of a similarly lengthy wing to ultimately replace HB or Huerter. Those are the assignments that will physically tax Keegan and disrupt his much needed offensive leap.

At some point in early ages there were rumours about Messi going to Real Madrid , and the internet spaces is even bigger and full with big amount of crazy people :)

Another phrase for it is, "in the zone". Everything else is mostly zoned out and a total calm focus on the task at hand

Keegan’s transformation into a bigger Klay Thompson is now just about complete. I know it was not quite to the level of Klays record setting 3rd quarter against us several years ago, but it felt pretty damn close in the late stages of the quarter. Everything in the flow of the game. Never seems rushed. The way he just floated to the corner threes, the steady release. With his leap as a super disciplined, solid defender (without freakish athleticism) he really does now play like Klay.

oh no, he's blacking out... it sounds like our boy has developed 3pt use disorder. the signs were there last season. let's get him some help by setting up some easy paths to the basket for some layups and the occasional poster dunk of ex-Kings and get him home safely across the 50 point line.

feels like the guy has a chance to be a perennial 50/49/90 club guy as a 6’8”/6’9” forward-wing, which is pretty much something only PG and KD are doing.
Wow. Talk about a reversion to the mean with Keegan's percentages! With one game, he's already considerably closer to matching his shooting excellence from last season, while drawing more attention from the defense and taking on a much heftier defensive workload himself. Kid's gonna be pretty special, I think.

I’ve watched the 3rd quarter 3 times now haha.

here is hoping he can build on this momentum. I’m just as encouraged if not more so by his previous games where he got to the line and didn’t rely on the three.

2 trips to the line a game, 4–5 shots at the rim or Midrange and a reasonable percentage from 3 and you have a 20 point scorer. Then over the years you tighten the screws on playmaking for others and the occasional iso. Pair all that with plus defense and he turns out to be the exact type of player the front office predicted.
