DraymondMania 2023

I just don’t get it with our interest in him. I get his skill set, but it wouldn’t work nearly as well for him when you’re not passing to 1) the greatest shooter the league has ever seen and 2) one of the greatest shooters the league has ever seen. He has good intangibles but he’s also old and I fear that when he gets here, he will decline rapidly. And that’s not even considering team chemistry, which could blow up in our face. What do you say to Sabonis? “Remember that guy that stomped on your chest and played dirty the whole series? Well we loved that and now he’s on our team so hopefully no hard feelings?”

Dame Barling apparently got a text from his Klutch guy that says that Draymond might actually be interested in coming to the Kings

I watched that Monte presser last night. He did look like someone that knows what the plan is. He basically came out and said it, this is all based around 2 guys, Fox and Domas. I almost wouldn't be surprised if he built an entire new team with 2 stars around them at this point, lol.

Wait, total? Of course he is. 25 per is almost nothing today haha. Part of me does feel like this could be that Ben Wallace deal though where you overestimate the value of a super impactful role player. Being the team to pay big money for that if they aren't the final piece can be pretty painful. Does Dray fit though? Heck yeah he does. But I would hope it's no longer than a 3 year deal. The reality is with Draymond and not adding another legit 20-25 ppg scorer you're still in the position of if Fox or Domas go down for any length of time, you're likely screwed. The upside is that both Sasha and Keegan can potentially close that gap.

On the plus side, Domas could actually take games off when he’s injured because we’d finally be capable of running our offense when he’s not playing

I’m for anything that makes the team better (to a certain extent) green checks a lot of boxes. I couldn’t stand Sherman before he joined the niners and he ended up becoming one of my favorite players and an exemplary leader and teammate. All that said I don’t believe they should overpay a ton for Green

Regarding culture: he's been with the same squad for over a decade and won 4 rings. He beefed with two guys: Durant and Poole. It's fair to say both guys were pretty checked out and not buying into the team concept - or at least, that's one fair interpretation. Kerr and the Warriors are a model organization and they don't make moves to keep Green around after the punch incident if they aren't still bought in on him. I would be surprised if there was lasting bad blood between him and Domas - it was a hard fought series. If he comes over I don't think that's a worry bc the FO is obviously gonna clear something like that with Sabonis first.

Then we know how much he loves Mike Brown and we know there will be that 100% buy in day one, and he will be strongly motivated to win a chip here. How many times did Mike talk about *real* playoff experience this postseason? Not just first round exits but deep runs year after year. He was clear that there's a whole different level of work that comes with that and no one on the roster has that experience (save Barnes, but he had a short run early career with GSW and they moved off him quick)

Finally, re offense: our problems this postseason were Huerter and Barnes forgetting how to shoot, Keegan having a very slow start, and Domas getting neutralized by Looney. Keegan I think will be fine, Huerter is that question mark, and Barnes has been inconsistent enough that having Dray facilitate and taking away those shots that would've gone to HB isnt gonna crumble our offense, since we know Monk and Fox will be torching opposing defenses

So the big thing with the offense is what it's been all year - Sabonis struggling against physical bigs. Dray would bring that physicality and could help set the tone. I don't know how much or even if at all his presence would either make Sabonis's job easier by working to neutralize bigs like Looney, or if some of it would spread around the team including to Sabonis and help up his game. But that's another thing Brown talked about - the physical nature of the playoffs. And again something that could come from within the locker room. Besides, all told, Domas just needs to start taking and hitting his outside shots to relieve a lot of troubles from last year

It should go without saying that we've been a poor defensive team and if Dray can be an impact defender it helps us majorly

All that said I'm not sure I want him given that he's asking for $100mm and will be 34 when next year's playoffs start. Just tossing him $60mm for 2 years or whatever would be fine but I don't think he's worth going into cap hell with a long term contract when he's declining already.

I don't think this would be a good pickup.

Especially with the pick that was made yesterday (Colby Jones) I really don't think the Kings need another facilitator.

I also don't think the Kings really need more toughness anymore with the addition of Colby Jones and perhaps who we could get through free agency (Bruce Brown for example).

Therefore those are two intangibles that are now minimized imo in terms of potential influence on this team.

And now you add in the fact that this guy can't shoot, that he's toxic af. Why would we do this?

This doesn't make any sense

While I acknowledge that welcoming Draymond Green to our team, especially after all this time, would be bittersweet for many and utterly ridiculous to others --- at least the dude is a proven defensive stalwart and winner.

It'd be a FAR better move than adding Kyle freaking Kuzma, which some of you surprisingly aren't so turned off by.

I mean, c'mon --- Draymond has been an ELITE level defender able to switch and defend many types of players/positions and is still pretty darn good at it. He's also a very capable passer that can make plays for others.

The other dude has been NONE of those things.

While I much prefer OG or Siakam, landing Draymond Green would be FAR better than several of the other "options" being floated about.

I don’t want Kuz but not for the same reason as you: he will take shots away from Keegan. Having said that, a lot of analytic guys are high on Kuz. Monte is pretty tuned into that stuff so I’ll trust their view on it if that’s the route he takes.

Don't do it, Monte.

Regardless of whether he's a good player, or a good fit, or cheaper than expected or whatever, don't do it.

I have not forgiven, nor do I intend to forgive, the chest-stomp. Draymond is a classless loser of a human being. I will never root for him, ever. If Draymond is ever a member of the Kings I promise to never set foot in G1C until he is gone. I can't say that I won't watch the games on TV or be a fan of the team, but the Kings will get ZERO money from me while Draymond is a member of the team.

Gotta stand by my principles.

So don't do it, Monte.

I still want to see those stats. Anyone have a link? I've looked at his efficiency stats and in relation to the fact that Kuz is a pure by the numbers scorer, I don't see it. Every metric I'm looking at measures up to Poole, Oubre, and Jordan Clarkson types. Not terrible by any stretch but impactful? Eh. That depends.

None of those things outweigh the negatives in my mind. He is a loose cannon verbally and physically, has attempted to intentionally injure several opposing players and even attacked his own teammate, and is a general pain in the ass type of person to deal with. He has been kept under control for as much as he has only because he has been on GS all this time and they probably catered to him as much as possible. Also, having the teammates that he did have allowed him to get those 4 rings, it’s not like he was the primary guy.

Regardless of his accomplishments on the court, supporting a player like Green is something I will never do. Nothing can excuse the behavior he displays on a regular basis. Also, what kind of message does that send to the rest of the team? The guy that intentionally stomped on Domas’s chest, egged the crowd on immediately afterwards , and got away with more than our entire team combined and now all of a sudden he’s on our team? I pray Monte spares me from having to watch Green in a Kings uniform.

I will hate him forever for that but part of me would just be glad he wouldn't be able to do it again.

But I don't think he has gotten his fair comeuppance for that horrible act and in fact got off way too easy.
