assuming the Nuggets are doing this to find Bruce Brown insurance in the range of all the lower 1st wings
Wow that's a great trade for Denver to reload after winning a ring. With three late 1st/early 2nds, I'm going to guesstimate that they'll use at least 2 of them on ready-now contributors, and possibly use another to swing for the fences? Maxwell Lewis seems like a swing-type of pick for Denver.

I really like this move from them. They're basically swapping a late 1st round pick in next year's weaker draft for a 1st round pick in this year's stronger draft and also get to move up 8 slots from #40.

I don't mind this from the Pacers because they have too many draft picks this year.

On the other hand... probably means a couple less quality options for the Kings at #38.

Other than Carlisle hating rookies, I don't really see the logic on Indiana's end for this trade.

There's the chance that Denver has an injury plagued season and that first becomes more valuable next year, but more than likely they just traded 29 & 32 in a strong draft for #40 this year and somewhere between #26-30 next year in a weaker draft.

I guess the idea is that having an extra pick next year makes it easier for them to put a package together for a star when they’re actually ready for it rather than forcing a premature end to their rebuild because most of their trade assets lose a little value after Thursday night.

I’m not surprised they traded a couple picks this year but I am surprised the return comes next season already. I figured they would want to turn their attention to some veterans after they take their two first rounders and then push the extra picks to future years so they can either package them in a trade or add cheap talent when they are competitive.

Charlotte has their second rounder on the table supposedly. Can we trade some future seconds for that so we can stock pipe in a good draft. We only have second rounders next year and there might not be anybody left in a weak draft

Yeah, I think they clearly see the writing on the wall that their 5-9 rotation guys (maybe even 4-9 in a season or 2) are going to have to be rookie scale guys in order for them to keep Jokic/Murray/MPJ together. They won't be able to afford the KCP/Bruce Brown level role players anymore. Super smart that they're stockpiling young guys to further their title contention timeline rather than just dump every pick they own for win-now vets.

If the Blazers land Siakam they could be interesting.

Dame
Sharpe
Grant
Siakam

don’t know their cap situation but if they have the mid level find a center.

I think they lose their MLE by virtue of signing Grant under the new CBA. They’d also get hard capped. Not sure Masai does a deal without Sharpe included either, especially since the kid’s from Toronto.

Regarding Wembamyama, I'm reminded of some other players that would "revolutionize" basketball. How about The Unicorn? You know that mythical, magical, amazing creature that was drafted by the Knicks, sent packing to Dallas, took a quick jaunt to Washington and now is rumored to be packing his bags for destination unknown. The hype surrounding Porzingas was astronomical when he was with NY. Now, not so much. Wembamyama was recently called "the alien" by LBJ. Porzingas was christened "the unicorn" by Durant. Interesting. Then there is the human highlight reel Zion Williamson. Unbelievable hype surrounding him when he was drafted. Now, not so much. How about Chet Holmgren, the guy sooo many were high on last year. He never even stepped on an NBA court before he got injured. Will he be able to stay relatively healthy going forward? Who knows, but it's not exactly an auspicious start. Greg Oden was another hype monster, but unfortunately never was a monster on the floor. So having seen these phenoms of hype come and go, I for one, and going to give it two or three years before I christen Wembamyama as the next Kareem. I just want to see if can make it through a couple of seasons in one piece, much less be the best basketball player in the last 50 years.

The history of 7'3"+ basketball players in terms of longevity is not good at all. Of 26 7'3"+ players in NBA history, none has reached 900 games - though Arvydas DID have real longevity but spent too much time in Russia to get to 900. Only 6 other guys (Bol, Bradley, Eaton, Smits, Breuer, Ilgauskas) made even 500 games, with Yao, Ralph Sampson, and (to date) Porzingis getting past 400.

That's 62% of guys that size not playing five full NBA seasons. Everybody is obviously rooting for Wembanyama to buck that trend, but humans really aren't supposed to be that big.
