Let's review:
1. Drafted at the #2 position, selecting Marvin Bagley III.
2. Declined to make qualifying offer to Bruno Caboclo
3, Traded Garrett Temple to Grizzlies for Ben Mclemore, Deyonte Davis, 2021 second round draft pick and Cash Considerations III
4. Signed free agent Yogi Ferrell
5. Signed free agent Nemanji Bjelica
6. Hired Bobby Jackson as assistant player development coach

IMHO that's not a bad off-season.

What do you think?

D.

Two things needed to happen once we jumped to 2, one great pick and one solid FA acquisition. The FA, with us having that cap space and little competition was prime for a big hit.

Two great pieces needed to be added

Bagley didn't produce to a confidence level and role players were acquired

Mark your "D" on the poll so it's properly reflected. At this point, I'm not even going to argue any of your points.

I gave it a C+ which is an honest reflection that I think it is way too soon to give a grade.

I like Bagley but I'm not sold he was the best pick. I like the signings but they are safe and we're playing it slow. We don't have a winning hand yet, but we're not dumping a low pair to chase a straight either.

Very easily could become a high B or even an A- if the patience translates to a trade down the road that brings in a starting caliber player or a pick in the 10-20 range.

It's not too soon for an initial reaction. It's not like this is gonna go on anyone's permanent record or anything. :p

I gave the off-season a "B".

1. I like the Bagley pick. For many of the people who've been acting like it was a colossal failure somehow easily forget that he was the third highest prospect on most big boards. He was not 40th. I even read articles and heard pundits going back and forth on Luka or Marvin for the number two pick. I was pulling for Doncic but the unforced (Not "Stauskus? Stauskus!) enthusiasm from the front office and the absolute swiftness with which they drafted Bagley made me reconsider. ( in addition to the fact that he was third on my board anyway and it certainly did not hurt that Atlanta passed on Doncic as well).

2. Relatively irrelevant for me was the essential release of Bruno.

3. I do not believe in karma but I do believe in some level of being a blessing and also paying it forward. Vlade Divac probably had the conversation with Garrett Temple that if he opted in, he would be traded. Memphis seems to be a team that could be in the playoff hunt this season with a healthy and returning Gasol and Conley. These are the kind of underrated moves front offices make to build their credibility with agents and players. In addition that landed a second round pick in a season that Memphis might not be very good.

4. Summer league was eye-opening regarding Frank Mason. At best he has not improved in regards to running an offense, at worst he has regressed. To guard against that and to improve the overall talent of the team, Vlade Divac signed Yogi Ferrell. Solid contract to get a high quality second point guard.

5. Getting Professor Big Shots signed up for 3 years of team control was a big get, especially at roughly 7 million per. From what I gather he is best played at the stretch-four but can certainly give some minutes at the three due to his shooting and skill. Quite importantly, he is a big that can stretch the floor to create driving lines for Fox. This offseason certainly proves to me that the team is building around Fox.

6. Hiring Bobby Jackson was a nice cherry on top. I do have some hesitations about constantly adding former Kings to the front office and the coaching staff. With that said, I'll respectfully set that aside for Bobby J because he earned his stripes about working his way up through the ranks.

I believe other moves could have been made but at the end of the day it takes two to tango. I have yet to hear of a player who was upset that the Kings spurned them by not signing them. Also if you believe that you have the players that need developmental room and will be stars, you don't sign someone over top of them. Right or wrong I truly believe Vlade Divac believes he has a young super team. As a result everything for this offseason has been about getting that one more super star piece through the draft and getting solid role players that are willing to be here.

I hope we can see extended minutes where Fox, buddy, Bogdan, Bagley, and Giles are on the floor together

C+ is fair. Loved the draft pick. Thought Bagley was the best player in the draft. We’ll find out in 3 years. The role player acquisitions were adequate. Wish the cap space was used to eat up undesirable contracts of other teams and gobble up their picks but seeing the trend around the league, no one’s giving up those picks easily anymore.

C.... (for now).

Predraft, I thought Doncic would have a much more positive impact in today's league than Bagley, who seems to be a bit of an old school bigman prospect. A few lackluster SL performances later, and my opinion hasn't changed. I'll give Bagley a chance of course, and I know we need to be patient with such a raw prospect, but I'm still a bit peeved we didn't go Luka.

All the other moves are solid, if unspectacular.

I don't think Vlade is done yet. We still have a bajillion bigs on the roster, so somebody is getting shipped out.

This is a stealthy offseason for the Kings, especially considering how the West is getting stacked now.
The Kings are getting stacked in a way that they can easily be perceived as non-playoff team. But of all the non-playoff teams in the West, I think the FA moves moves the Kings within 2nd to the Suns in terms of the highest chances of surprising the season with its young legs and making an unexpected playoff appearance.
So kind meh season but will still draw crowds if they suddenly string series of upsets. a 20-45 wins kind of team maybe. That kind if uncertainty.

C-

If we still manage to get a future 1st, B

Things I liked: Temple trade, Bjelica and Yogi were good/okay.

I didnt like that Bagley pick too much and I also would've liked us to take a gamble on a young 3&D wing. Treveon Graham signed like 2/3mil for example.

Not getting that Denver salary dump really hurt but hopefully we can still get the future 1st somewhere.

Bagley will be very good but it will take a couple of years, look at what a season of practice with nba talent has done for Giles.

With the two free agent signings we now have a two deep rotation for our front court.

I am in the trade WCS group and keep KK.

Will we stand pat? I do not think Vlade is done yet.

We need to stop talking about getting an SF. I fully believe Vlade is gonna use Shumpert & JJ there this season and then hand it over to Bagley. Right or wrong, I think that is the plan.

I personally refuse to believe that we drafted a PF/C #2 just to play him at SF. While also passing on the fan favourite who happened to be a SF (point forward or whatever you want to call him).

The team has too many bigs. Today's nba rosters needs at most 3 bigs who can man center. The Kings will be forced to sit players who aren't that much worse than players who are playing. A lot of mediocrity.

There could be a situation where the team's best player and 12th best player don't have a lot of separation.
It wouldn't be shocking if Yogi performs as well as Fox, but is only marginally better than Mason.
Shump could outplay Bogi and Buddy, but at a level barely starter quality.
Skal could improve but not beat out Zbo, who is still out playing a developing Bagley and Giles.

This is not how you'd want to build a roster from scratch.

Evaluating Vlade's summer in my mind has to be considered in the context of what he didn't do or tried and didn't do. I was happy with most of it and give him a B+:
  • Did not chase Jabari Parker: GOOD
  • Did not chase Marcus Smart: GOOD
  • Did chase Mario: GOOD
  • Did chase LaVine: GOOD
  • Did not chase Capella (yet): BAD
  • Did not trade up from #37 > #29 to get Dzanan Musa: BAD
  • Did not workout Jaren Jackson or Mo Bamba: BAD
  • Ignored all the outside pressure to take Luka: GOOD
  • Did draft Bagley: GREAT :p
  • Signed Yogi: GOOD
  • Signed Bjelica: GOOD

Fox will have a solid season coming up. He struggled last year and was forced to play a system that played to his weaknesses, slow and half court basketball. Yogi is a legit player and is far better than Mason, I'm not sure what in the world you're trying to say there.

Shump is injured all the time and even when he plays, he's not all that good. Injuries have robbed him quite a bit. He's most likely going to be backup at this point. Bogie is better already and it's not that close.

Skal isn't a very good basketball player to begin with for reasons I've stated before. I have very minimal expectations from him as the stuff he lacks on the court can't be found or developed in the gym. He's just too nice and plays the game like a 75 year old grandfather.

Skal has been bulking up a lot this summer. He's been going beast mode in the gym per reports which is exactly what he needs. I believe in him.

As for the poll, I gave a B. I was hoping we would go after Marcus Smart in free agency but overall it's been a very solid off-season. Reasonable contracts for players that help cover our weakest areas is a major step in the right direction for this franchise as for a long while we would sign players to just sign them.

I am definitely pleased with the direction we are going in and I'm sure there's more to come. I'd love to get rid of Z-bo (or WCS in the right trade) just to open more playing time for Giles and Bagley. With an off-season and a year of experience I'm really looking forward to what Fox has to offer as well as Bogie. Fox has all the running mates he needs now, no excuses.
