What are the terms of service that appeared when I registered?
By becoming a member of Kingsfans.com (KF.com), you warrant that you will not post any messages that are knowingly false and/or defamatory, deceptive, inaccurate, racist, insulting, abusive, inflammatory, vulgar, sexually-oriented, obscene, profane, hateful, threatening, harassing, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any laws, including stalking.
Considering the real-time nature of this bulletin board, it is impossible for us to review all messages or confirm the validity of information posted therein. Please remember that we do not constantly monitor the contents of posted messages and are not responsible for any messages posted. All messages express the views of the author thereof, not necessarily the views of KF.com or anyone associated with KF.com - KF.com does not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and is not responsible for the content of any message posted on this site.
Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to use the report feature at the bottom of every post. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary.
KF.com reserves the right to edit, move, close or remove any post and/or thread for any reason. KF.com reserves the right to restrict access to the forums (including banishment) of any member who violates these rules or is otherwise determined by board management to have breached the peace.
So I know the basic "Terms of Service." What exactly shouldn't I do?
First of all, welcome to Kingsfans.com. We'd like to say hi and welcome all of the new board members to our family. We hope that you will enjoy your time on our boards. We are the original online community devoted to the Sacramento Kings and we look forward to your participation.
We here are diehard Kings fans (along with a notable few fans of other teams who found their way here and have become members of our community) and all we want to do is express our opinions as fans. Our goal is to foster a friendly, neighborhood playground type atmosphere. Differences of opinion are expected and encouraged. We're not looking to turn our board members into a flock of kool-aid drinking sheep. All we ask is that if you disagree with something that is posted that you respond civilly and respect the right of each boardmember to post their opinion - even if you think it's the dumbest thing ever said in the world. If you need anything please feel free to contact any of the Moderators via the board's Conversation (Personal Message) system.
Forum Rules:
The following are the rules that apply to our forums. These rules were established to provide an enjoyable environment for all our members and guests (who should register). The rules are subject to change. Please follow the guidelines set forth so that these forums may be enjoyed by everyone.
1. Don't be a jerk. Messages which, in the opinion of the moderators, serve no purpose other than to mislead, shock, annoy, enrage, incite or bait board members to engage in unnecessary arguments will not be tolerated. If you're only here to cause trouble, you will be banned. We utilize a warning system with points for infractions. After a certain number of infraction points are issued, your ability to post may be curtailed. If you accumulate too many points, you will be banned.
1a. Game threads. The game threads are for real time discussion of the game in progress. They are not for philosophical debates, arguments about coaching styles, heated rhetoric about certain player(s) or anything else that generally detracts from the feel of the game. They are intended to be a way for fans to share the game experience without having to be in G1C.
2. Please remain civil. Disagreements are bound to occur, and discussions may become heated at times, but personal attacks, flames, mean-spirited or hateful messages, name calling or other inferred insults to your fellow posters will not be tolerated. If someone attacks you, report the post and we will take the appropriate action. We do not allow discussion of politics or religion for obvious reasons.
3. This is a family oriented board, please watch your language. Obscene, racial or sexual comments, and religious or ethnic slurs will not be tolerated. Additionally, attempting to avoid the profanity filters by replacing certain letters with other characters will not be allowed either.
4. Watch the smack. While good-natured ribbing may be acceptable based on the context of the thread/post, smack is not allowed. No threads calling people to battle or throwing down the gauntlet with the intent to start a flame war will be allowed.
5. Respect other members and remember not everyone comes from the same place or has the same points of view. Our membership spans the globe and English is not everyone's first language. We do not have a branch of the Grammar police on KF.com nor do we want one. Also, there is no such thing as a "true fan." Whether you're a STH or not is irrelevant for purposes of this forum. Living in Sacramento/Northern California doesn't make you more of a fan than someone from somewhere else. How you choose to support/root for your team is your choice. If you're here, you're a fan...until/unless you decide you're not.
6. Kingsfans.com is organized into threads by topic. Whether posting a new thread in a forum or a reply to an existing thread, please stay on topic. No one wants to sort through numerous off-topic posts and/or threads to follow the forum discussions. During the off-season, there is more leniency with regards to posting off-topic threads but during the season this rule will be enforced more strictly. On occasion, moderators will split sub-topics out of a thread into a new one to differentiate between subjects.
7. No spamming of the boards will be tolerated. Posts/threads with the sole intent of plugging another website, service, or good will be deleted immediately and the offender subject to immediate banning.
8. You may NOT post or request links to unofficial game streaming sites. This includes posts asking people to PM you for such links. (see NOTICE regarding this issue.)
9. If you were previously banned and attempt to circumvent the ban by registering under another nickname, you will be removed. Once you circumvent a previous ban, you are no longer welcome on this site. If you feel you should be allowed another chance, you can send an email to slim_citrus@yahoo.com and your situation will be reviewed by all the moderators. If you are allowed to return, you will have to select a new user name. If you blow it a second time, you will not be allowed back.
10. Posting articles - Posting links to articles is not a problem, provided proper attribution is given. You may not post the entire article. A few excerpts followed by a link to the rest of the story are all that are allowed. You may not copy pay content (such as ESPN Insider) to this site. If you want to comment on something written there, you may summarize the content and give credit to the source. You may NOT copy and paste their content here.
11. Signatures should not be designed to attract more attention than actual posts. It is good practice to use a different-colored font, a smaller font, or center-justification to allow the signature to be easily recognizable as standing apart from the main post. Signatures may not violate general posting rules. Signatures may not include images or an embed (e.g. a tweet or a video). Links are allowed as long as they are not obvious advertisements. There is no explicit character limit, but be considerate. Signatures that are more 1.5x the height of the avatar picture are excessive and will not be allowed.
12. There are occasional comments about Kingsfans.com being run by Nazis or Fascists. This, of course, is not the case. While the moderators may be rapscallions, curmudgeons or even crazy old cat ladies, we’re quite certain they are not Nazis or Fascists. At heart, they're fans just like everyone else - except they have the honor/chore of helping to maintain order in our community. If you have a disagreement with a moderator, discuss it with them in a private conversation. Do not use the main board to air your disagreement.
At KF.com we really do want everyone to have fun interacting with fellow board members, and experiencing the family feeling we have developed over the years. Our forum is like conversation around the family dinner table - there may be some light-hearted discussions and good-natured ribbing, but things are not taken to the extreme. Not every thread or post is expected to be a serious, in-depth analysis of the issue at hand.
So come on in, settle back and have some fun. Welcome to what we all firmly believe is the best sports community on the Internet.
(Note: These rules were inspired by our old board rules and those of other fan boards, such as PelicanReport and PacersDigest.)
