Memphis

According to several articles I've read, Memphis is about to change ownership and, they're doing it on a shoestring...not much money in reserve. So, how can we entice them to trade Pau Gasol to us? I assume they would want expiring contracts and we have enough of them that, coincidently, would be enough to make the trade. Not sure how that would work out for them since they already have a full compliment of players. Is this workable or just a pipe dream?

Successful ScenarioDue to Sacramento and Memphis being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Sacramento and Memphis had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

They would want more than SAR and Bibby, probably Bibby and Miller atleast.

Gasol + KMart + Artest would be DANGEROUS in the future. That triple threat would have so much potential.

Gasol is very good -- that said, he is not that much better than a Bibby type guy. He's both over and underhyped at the same time. But not a superstar guy either way and always just at the edges of Allstar consideration with 20 and 8 type numbers. Be nifty to scoop him up, but if in order to do so we had to sacrifice Mike, Ron, or Kevin (if he sustains) we would not necessarily be taking that big of a step forward.

couldn't have said it better myself

Dude, they're not trading Gasol. Cutting salary is not the same thing as trading your franchise player for cheap.

I would do that in a heart beat. I would even add some young talent to that excluding Price and Kmart.

It is a dream - but getting Gasol would be awesome!

While I agree overall that Bibby and Gasol are close in terms of talent there are two main differences.

1) Big vs. Small...this gives Gasol more value. It's easier to find a talented PG than it is a talented 4/5 guy.

2) Age...while this isn't that big a difference. 26 for Gasol vs 28 for Bibby...it's still a factor. And gives Gasol more value.

With this being said...if we could land a Gasol with a package around Bibby...I'm ALLL of that type of deal.
