We haven't done this for a few years, but some of the mods thought it would be a good idea to reinstate a KingsFans.com mock draft. I'll take charge, and it's high time that we start getting sign-ups for this thing.

We will start the draft few days after the lottery (Tuesday May 16th) once I have a chance to get everything together. Since this is a deep draft, we will try to pick all the way to #60. Since we ought to get through more than two picks a day, we should be able to finish before the actual draft.

For this draft, each team will be managed by a single drafter. Thus, if the Kings hold serve in the lottery and get the #8, #10, and #34 picks, all those picks will be made by one (lucky!) person. If we do not have enough drafters it is possible some drafters will pick for multiple teams. When you sign up for the draft, please select up to five teams you would prefer to draft for. Once the list of drafters (and the lottery) is complete, I will use computer randomization to determine who drafts for the Kings, and then try to make everybody else as happy as possible.

For this draft, trades are legal. The idea is that you can use draft picks AND trades to improve your roster as much as possible going into free agency. However, if a drafter is in charge of multiple teams, those teams may not trade with each other. Trades should be negotiated via "conversations" (meaning not in the draft thread). Trades can be made for future picks, so long as those picks are unencumbered in real life. (Obviously, future picks would be meaningless for this mock draft, but if you think the GM of your team would do it, feel free.) Trades involving players already in the NBA must conform to the current NBA CBA. Report any trades to Capt. for approval and so he can update the draft board.

There are 26 teams that currently have a draft pick in this draft, so we are looking for up to 26 participants. The Cavaliers, Warriors, Clippers, and Grizzlies do not have picks this year. Capt. will be in charge of "running" these teams and fielding any trade proposals for these teams, unless somebody actually wants that role.

Sounds like a cool idea. Can you however give a more detailed idea on how the procedure will be and how much time one has to spend on it? And is it a problem being in europe and therefore loggin in to different times than most other guys?

Yeah, actually I've got a decently long explanation - and yes, it's going to be Europe-friendly. But I'm having problems actually posting that explanation. Grr.

Actually......

Yes. I can do that. I can't post a comment more than about 100 words, but a big image? No Problem!

Hilarious. (And updated above.)
Haha! Glad it worked.

I really like the rules and therefore I will happily participate.

Teams Id like to draft for (in that order):
Milwaukee
Dallas
Magic
Portland
Spurs

Edit: oh and I forgot about Toronto, so if no one else wants them I'll happily take them.

As long as it starts after the 20th of May, I'm happy to join and hope I don't butcher things too bad. I don't care about what teams I pick for.

Happy to tag along.

I am expecting to travel frequently over the next couple of months, not to mention I am based in the UK.
Having said that, I will try to leave instructions (with Capt?) when I expect limited availability, so that I don't hold you back.

OK, so we're up to 11 drafters so far. We've got room for up to 15 more (remember, four teams don't have picks), so keep on chiming in!

Looks like we are up to 15 drafters so far! There is plenty of space for more to sign up, but I'll probably close it down and start the draft up a day or two after the lottery, so if you're interested, sign up now!

OK, the lottery is done, and we have 18 participants, which seems like a good number.

I have conducted a randomization to determine who gets to pick for the Kings this year, and the winner is.... R2D2! Congrats!

Nine of you expressed a preference for which teams you would draft for, and it took a bit of finagling but I have managed to get all nine either their first or second choice. Additionally, Jimbob asked to start after May 20th, and I have him not selecting until pick 19, so even though we'll probably start a bit ahead of the 20th, he'll be plenty safe.

Everybody has at least three picks, and nobody is responsible for more than two teams. Four NBA teams have no picks in this draft. For now I have assigned those to some of the drafters here, and you can attempt to trade with those teams (or not) as you see fit. And the assignments are:

Macadocious: Celtics (1, 37, 53, 56)
206Fan: Lakers (2, 28) AND Pelicans (40)
bajaden: 76ers (3, 36, 39, 46, 50)
LPKingsFan: Suns (4, 32, 54) AND Grizzlies (No picks)
R2D2: Kings (5, 10, 34)
Dime Dropper: Magic (6, 25, 33, 35)
King Baller: Timberwolves (7) AND Rockets (43, 45)
lwc: Knicks (8, 44, 58) AND Clippers (No picks)
King in England: Mavericks (9) AND Spurs (29, 59)
Bibby10AZ: Hornets (11, 41) AND Raptors (23)
Cecil: Pistons (12) AND Pacers (18, 47)
N0tmyfault: Nuggets (13, 49, 51)
biltalent: Heat (14) AND Bucks (17, 48)
funkykingston: Blazers (15, 20, 26) AND Warriors (No Picks)
CyKings: Bulls (16, 38) AND Thunder (21)
Jimbob: Hawks (19, 31, 60) AND Wizards (52)
Folsomkingsfan: Nets (22, 27, 57) AND Cavaliers (No Picks)
OffTheWallJamal: Jazz (24, 30, 42, 55)

So now you know your assignments! I'll put up a draft board maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow night.

And I reached a limit on post size. In the meantime, if you want your "bedtime" - that time every day when your clock switches from 8 to 15 hours, which should presumably be BEFORE your last planned check of the draft board for the night - if you want that time to be anything other than the default of 10 PM Pacific time, please let me know what time, and translate it to Pacific if at all possible.

DD, King in England...anybody else not in California...I'm talking to you!
