A four-game losing streak has led to heightened speculation about Kings coach Luke Walton’s job security and a new report suggesting his job could be in jeopardy if the team keeps losing. The pressure on Walton is mounting as the Kings (5-8) prepare to face the Detroit Pistons (3-9) on Monday night at Little Caesars Arena. Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has been friends with Luke Walton long enough to know he was facing an uncertain future in Sacramento before the Kings even started the season. Kerr discussed Walton’s situation and the pitfalls of coaching in the NBA during a recent stop in Sacramento, saying he is “pulling for” his former protégé as he tries to save himself and pull the Kings out of a 15-year playoff drought. This is obviously a big year for him,” Kerr said.

That’s what a competent team with playoff aspirations would have done. Instead, the Sixers won 102-94 while the Kings wilted with a miserable 12-point fourth quarter in which Philadelphia outscored Sacramento by 13 points. Somehow, there were no King fan throwing up on the court as there was Saturday.

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum will be in Sacramento for a pre-Thanksgiving feast when the Portland Trail Blazers visit the Kings on Wednesday night at Golden 1 Center. The Kings (6-12) might be the ones who get cooked by the Blazers (10-8), who have won four in a row with wins over the Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets. Lillard and McCollum combined for an easy 57 points on 22-of-33 shooting in a 119-100 blowout over the Nuggets on Tuesday.

We’re going to find the combination of guys that’s going to play,” Gentry said. I don’t really care what the hell the back of the jersey says. We’re going to play the guys who are going to play hard and try to do what we ask them to do.

Lakers star LeBron James is considered questionable for Friday night’s game against the Kings, but Sacramento has a couple of question marks in its starting lineup as well. Kings center Richaun Holmes and forward Harrison Barnes were both listed as questionable on the team’s injury report Thursday. Holmes has a right eye contusion that caused him to miss Wednesday’s 125-121 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant will miss his first game of the season when the Kings visit FexEdForum on Sunday, but Sacramento still has some injury concerns of its own. The Kings (8-12) could be without three starters when they play the Grizzlies (9-10) to conclude a brief two-game road trip after beating the Los Angeles Lakers 141-137 in triple-overtime Friday night at Staples Center. Center Richaun Holmes is not expected to play due to a non-COVID-19-related illness.

The Los Angeles Lakers expect Anthony Davis to play when they face the Kings for the second time in five days Tuesday night at Golden 1 Center. They aren’t so sure about LeBron James. The Lakers (11-11) are listing James as questionable against the Kings (8-13) due to a rectus abdominal strain, the same injury that sidelined him for eight games in November.

There was good news and bad news for the Kings as they prepared to play the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night at Golden 1 Center. The good news is that center Richaun Holmes is ready to return to the lineup after missing the past three games due to injury and illness. The bad news is Sacramento could still be missing two starters as forwards Harrison Barnes and Maurice Harkless continue to deal with injuries.

A PlayAz.com poll of 1,150 fans across the country found that Sacramento Kings mascot Slamson the Lion is the fifth-worst mascot in the NBA. Picking on the Kings is one thing, but Slamson is one cool cat. Most of these mascots are friendly and fun, but Slamson recently proved to be the ultimate team player when he got down on his paws to help arena workers clean up after a fan barfed on the court.

Interim Kings coach Alvin Gentry promised to find players who would make Sacramento proud following a demoralizing loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night at Golden 1 Center. Gentry will be looking for someone to step up and take that responsibility when the Kings play the first game in a home-and-home set against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night at Staples Center.

Phoenix Suns (18-3) Last week: 2 The Suns are a clear-cut choice as the new No. team in the NBA this week after running their winning streak to 17 games with a 104-96 victory over the Warriors on Tuesday. Devin Booker left the game early with a hamstring injury, but even that could not stop the Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton and the Suns, who haven’t lost a game since the Kings beat them Oct. 27.

The Kings managed to earn a road win over the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this week despite the absences of Harrison Barnes, Maurice Harkless and Marvin Bagley III. They might find themselves in a similar situation when they face the Clippers again on Saturday at Golden 1 Center, and this time they will probably have to deal with seven-time All-Star Paul George.

That’s the lineup Gentry used in crunch time to close out the win, which hadn’t been used at all this season. The Kings didn’t outscore the Clippers with that lineup, but it did enough to hold them off. At the 5:29 mark, the Kings led 90-82.

Interim coach Alvin Gentry will have to decide who will replace Richaun Holmes in the starting lineup when the Kings open a three-game road trip against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, but he shouldn’t expect much sympathy from Hornets coach James Borrego. The Kings won’t have their starting center for at least two games, but the Hornets are missing three starters and two reserves with LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Mason Plumlee, Ish Smith and Jalen McDaniels out due to NBA health and safety proto...
