“This is pretty cool for us to build these houses and then ship them down there,” Brad Miller said in-between pounding nails. “It is still a mess down there and a lot of people don’t realize it but they still need help.”
The Kings players joined Habitat for Humanity, the NBA, TNT and the Players Association to build one of 10 homes for victims in the Gulf Coast recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
The Kings players usually known for assisting one another on the court did their part off the court holding the wooden 2 x 4s for one another and positioning different framing sections to be put in place.
“It’s not as easy as I thought it would be,” Ron Artest said. “Hopefully this will make a couple of people’s lives a little easier.
“Anytime everyone comes together it’s a good thing.”
Along with the Kings players and Habitat for Humanity, Maloof Sports & Entertainment Team Members demonstrated their commitment to the community by volunteering in the construction of the house.
“For us coming out here is just a way of showing people that we care,” Kenny Thomas said with a smile.
