Kevin Martin for the Three Point Shooting Contest?

I'd like to see the Kings represented by him in the contest, but I don't know if it will happen. I want it to. Thoughts? The people who should make it are Arenas, Okur, Bell, Nowitzki, Martin (i'm biased,) Barbosa, maybe Joe Johnson, Gordon, Bargnani, Nocioni. But those guys aren't necessarily people i'd like to watch.

Martin has a good 3 point shot, but his release is not fast enough in this type of competition IMHO. If it was up to me, I want to see Michael Redd, Dirk Nowitzki, Ray Allen, Kyle Korver and JR Smith in the Competition.

It'd be nice, but I have no clue how they pick the contestants, so I don't know whether it's likely at all.

For example, last year Raja Bell was Mr. Threepointer, being third in the NBA for both 3-point shooting percentage and threes made. Was he invited? No. Lots of the obvious leaders weren't invited. So who knows what to think?

I would agree with this.

However, I would like to see Price in the dunk contest.:D

Kevin Martin-3 pt. contest

I read in paper that he said something like this: I will not participate in the 3 point contest, if invited, because I don't deserve to be there. It is not only how one person performs, but how their team is doing and we don't have a record to support that. Annie.

I believe Kevin is headed home to Zanesville for the All-Star break to get some well-deserved rest...

I'll confess to being selfish. I don't want to see any of the Kings participating in the All-Star festivities for the simple reason I don't want to hear the inevitable comments about how they're doing so poorly this season, blah, blah, blah...

I don't think Kevin should waste his time at the All-Star game until he is chosen as an All-Star. I think his attitude is spot-on.

I also think he will be an All-Star some day.

I don't think the AS game should be in the middle of the season. Someone will invariably get injured and affect their team's performance, cuz it's not the bench guys that play at the game.

Just like the Pro-bowl in the NFL...it's at the end of the season...that makes more sense to me.

Nobody watches the Pro-bowl...

I think the NBA uses the All-Star game as a marketing tool to get excitement going about basketball after the Super Bowl is over. The hype about it is over-the-top, IMHO.

I think the whole All-Star concept has become nothing more than a big-$$$$ proposition for the league and the sponsors. The whole popularity contest concept long ago took it away from the actual all-stars, IMHO. And I think we're stuck with it... They aren't gonna fix something that's profitable.

Kevin's a good 3-point shooter but I highly doubt there's any chance he would get into that contest. Anyway, he doesn't need to... let the other players wear themselves out while our Kings get some rest. :)

Kevins shot might be slow but lets not forget all he would have to do is get all the shots off, which I dont think would be a problem.

I forgot about Redd. But if he said he didn't want to do it, then too bad. Its a shame to see the kings shut out two years in a row. Oh well it happens.

Or get hurt... remember Brad that one year??

Here it is:

And the player who had seemed most likely to be voted in by the coaches or be invited to the assorted skills competitions -- third-year shooting guard Kevin Martin -- said he will decline an invitation to the skills events if one comes.

Martin, who has admitted to fatigue in his first season playing heavy minutes (not to mention heavy media attention and a season with mostly taxing results), said he will relax in his hometown of Zanesville, Ohio, during the Feb. 15-19 break. Nor is he concerned about the remote chance of his first All-Star berth.

"The stats might look like it, but I don't deserve to be there," Martin said. "I think a player should be there based on how good they're doing but also how their team's doing."

Yeah, I hear that. I really havent watched the All-Star game/Weekend in years, its just not that exciting anymore. I mean, I might turn on the festivities this year, only because its in Las Vegas, but other than that, I have no desire to watch it. But hey, if it aint broke, I wouldnt fix it either. It was so much more exciting back in the 80's/early 90's. Once Michael retired(for good:D ), that was it, I think.

Oh come on, how tired would he get shooting a minute-worths of threes?

I don't think it's just about the actual competition. This is being held in Las Vegas, remember?

;)

Disappointed that neither Price nor Hassan Adams made it to the dunk contest...and Hassan was arguably the best dunker in NCAA last year.

Good to see Kevin taking a break...definitely agree to the kid's quote about having the TEAM play well. Another kudos to VF21...the last thing I want to hear from the commentators is "now here's Martin from the Kings...god the Kings are doing awful this year, yada yada yada." So cheers, Take a rest, Kevin.

That may be true, but his style of release is perfect. During games he looks as if he's taking the ball off the rack every time.

That just gives me another reason not to watch it this year.

That is noble of him, but these types of competition are individual comps and have nothing to do with how one's team is doing. I remember him being interested in possibly entering the dunk contest a season or two ago. I don't doubt he'd rather rest seeing how this year he's been logging big minutes, but I don't think he is comfortable with spot up shooting, anyhow. That's why he has the release he does, and that's why he does the pump fakes-- he much rather put the ball on the floor.

Price in the dunk contest? No thanks. They already have the token short guy who can jump in Nate Robinson.

No Sac representation in the festivities is not a big deal to me. We have much more important things to worry about. Like, the team looking like it might lose out on the lottery down the stretch.
Too bad for the Maloofs, though. They helped lobby for the festivities to be in LV, but none of their own players will be involved with the games.

Since they'll be hob knobbing with the NBA elites, I hope they leave a good impression on the right people.

The reason for all the shot fakes is simply because they are having to respect his outside game. Plus I know that he has been doing the same shot fake clear back in high school for Coach Aronhalt and the Blue Devils. Trust me when I say this. He has the most confidence in his shot. He has had the same criticism his whole life and look where it got him

Actually a good point. Also: Kevin's percentage goes up dramatically when his feet are set. Again perfect for the contest. And he barely jumps, which also is sometimes a factor (jumpshooters lose their legs). Only problem is that the delivery is still quite slow, so time could be a factor. But otherwise, a solid darkhorse type candidate maybe.

Martin's a set shooter from the 3. He may do well if he can somehow get his shots off fast enough or focus in on every shot. For a timed competition jump shooting is the choice. My candidate for 3pt contest are all the centers. Ben Wallace, Yao, Shaq, Dwight, Curry, and King's center Williamson.
