Kenny Thomas is hurt.

Never want anyone to get hurt but I have never, ever, understood why the hell he starts in the first place(same thing could be said about Miller).

abdur rahim has had all the opportunities to take the starting position from kenny thomas. thomas doesnt get starter minutes, and has even been taken off the starting lineup a couple times. however, on occasion he does bring hustle, and a kings version of rebounding.

rahim fits the backup position better, as he subs for both miller and k9, and can give you points off the bench.

as for having an issue with miller starting... hes the closest thing to a center that we have. and, lets not forget his 3 blocks last night.

I think you did a great job of summarizing the whole poiwer forward problem in that first sentence. When we're reduced to watching Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Kenny Thomas "battle" for the starting 4, that really says all that needs to be said about one of the biggest problems on the team.

Nice job.

:)

why thank you vf. :)

for me, its painful to watch because i know rahim's got so much more talent than thomas. and its not a matter of k9 even outworking rahim... rahim is just not doing much of anything right now.

ive been a sar fan too, and like many, when he came on board in the offseason, i was pretty excited at a starting lineup of bibby, wells, peja, sar, and miller.

I think SAR is a great guy. I've heard nothing but good stuff about his community involvement, his mentoring of the younger players, etc. I just think he's lost the "hunger"...

That's just it, the lost hunger/drive on the team for many players, there has definately been a hunger strike for all but a few Kings that have any kind of consistency and drive...the list is small, but I'd say just about all the bench guys that Muss subs in like Cisco, Corliss, Price, Williams have the hunger. As far as the starters only really KMart & Artest have the hunger, Bibby, Miller, K9 are just going through the motions all year. It's hard to say with SAR, he is a better player then we see, but I do like his shooting and being about to come off the bench for 4/5. His moves are so scripted though, the opponents know what he is going to do before he does. ;-)

I really hope we clean house this offseason and get a group that cares, even if we lose, if the effort is there and we are building for the future...I'll be o.k. with that.

That's the key phrase right there, IMHO. I've rooted for some of the worst assemblages of players in the history of the NBA because they at least tried even if they couldn't eke out a win even if the other team was held up at the airport. It's about EFFORT. If the team shows the effort, the fans respond and the symbiotic relationship is maintained. If the team doesn't at least put forth a reasonable effort, however, the fans get disgruntled, start thinking about how much they're paying to come see millionaires sitting around waiting for the game to be over, and they (the fans) get surly. And I don't blame them at all.

EFFORT... It really is where the whole relationship between the team and the fans starts and ends.

And now the Kings are most certainly

doomed.

Kenny isn't going to play for a little bit, write off the season!

I'd be very happy if this meant Justin would actually get some more time on the court, if any...but with Muss you never know. He just assume play his starters in a blowout till the end. When you look at the disparency between the effort of our bench who by definition should not be better then your starters we can really see where it come down to starters (Bibby, K9, Miller) just going through the motions. When the bench guys come in we start to dig out of the hole the starters put us in...it sure seems that way (KMart and Artest not included, they do actually play with heart).

Much of the problem is lack of effort, but also I really feel our starters who make a good chunk of the payroll on the team (Bibby & Miller) are in a decline in their careers and could really benefit from a change of scenery. GP did just about anything in his ability to move Bibby before the trade deadline this year so this offseason should be an interesting one and hopefully much more active them the past few with the stay pat attitude with the false belief that the current roster will get the job done. Everyone and their grandma's know that we need major help at 4/5 with a shot blocking, rebounding, defensive big and yet we go year after year without one....Muss instead suggests to Miller, our only 7 footer that he should be chunking up more 3's and playing away from the basket, while our 6' 7" PF has the job of grabbing rebounds.

We have such a hole in the PF position...I don't think this will make a huge difference.

In terms of preference, I favor Shareef over Kenny...and still believe Shareef still "has it" but he's simply on the wrong team. Which in itself was a disappointment, as we were all hoping for a true 20 & 10 guy, but it looks like that will never come to fruition on this team, and frankly, any other team due to his age. But I do believe he will be better fit for another team, perhaps a San Antonio.

With Kenny taking a breather from his tireless effort on the floor ;) , hopefully Justin Williams can get some more minutes to develop his game. He still looks quite out of place on the floor, but hopefully he can find his groove, as the talent is there.

Much as I have little use for Kenny, people ho humming this are missing an obvious point -- Kenny is basically the ONLY rebounder on an already terrible reboudning team. Hard to tell if Reef will pick up his game with the carrot of the starting spot held out in front of him, but at this late stage of his career even picking it up still leaves him badly insufficient.

As an aside peeps -- no 20-10 guy in history would ever lose his starting job to Kenny Thomas. Twice actually. Reef's aging in dog years. And he and Corliss provide a wonderful duo of old, slow, non-rebounding, undersized black hole post scorers which do not fit at all with the already cluttered shot crunch of our starting lineup. If there are not enough shots to go around as it is, and then you throw in a guy who can only contribute when he himself is shooting...Kenny sucks, but at least his skill (rebounding) can be practiced while staying out of the way of the big scorers.

Sort of like watching a hand of low ball poker.;)

actually, ive been pleasantly surprised at kmarts all around games these past weeks. im gonna look for him to get into the rebounding a bit more.

Absolutely, and this is the key here. Shareef has never really been known as a rebounder, but I would definitely think that he would be take the starting job from a perennial role player in Kenny Thomas by now.

So who takes Kenny's minutes? Does this mean Justin will get a few minutes? I mean I have a feeling Kenny could be out like 3 or 4 games.

I seriously doubt it. Whenever one of Kenny or Reef has been out Big Nasty gets more time and Ron switches over to PF more than usual.

what??? u want to put a... 6'10 power forward at the power forward spot??? such ludicrous thinking will never get you anywhere. now... look at musselman. he makes millions of dollars a year to make these tough decisions.
more time for 6'7 small forward corliss and 6'7 small forward ron artest, now thats sound coaching. :p

I really would love to see Justin Williams starting. I would root for this team to win, lottery be damned, if Justin Williams were starting. If he can block a few shots and grab rebounds, he's exactly what we need in there no matter how ugly his free throw stroke is. It really is all about effort. Boston and Charlotte have worse records than we do, but I watch them play anyway whenever I get the chance because they have a bunch of young players who play hard every day, and that's fun to watch. But I know that's not going to happen. Williams will be lucky if he gets more than 5 minutes per game off the bench while Kenny Thomas is out. And I'll just have to keep watching the standings hoping we move down instead of up so we can get some young players in here who are hungry to win.

SO let me recap...

SAR can't rebound.

He can't defend anybody.

He can't make free throws with that flat shot.

He can't pass the ball.

He can't dribble.

He rarely makes any shot from more the 5 feet away.

He can post-up, and once in awhile, actually gets a shot that goes in.

So why is this guy even playing?

At least with K9, he rebounds and hustles. And when he remembers, he passes the ball to somebody else to shoot.

These two have made me forget what a real Power Forward is like.

He's got bum knees. That's his only problem. He's aging before our very eyes. He's a great guy who does have the hunger; he just doesn't have the physical ability to get it done on a consistent basis. Petrie got someone on the downhill slide.

Agreed. With Thomas out we go from a bad rebounding team to a very bad rebounding team. Miami and Orlando will be loving it.

I have a question, if Thomas didnt rebound, would anyone even know that hes on the floor? I mean I barely even notice later in the game. There is one shot that both he and shariff do that I hate, the half hook. when it goes in its fine but how many times have we had to see that thing hit the front of the rim?
