"It takes 50 games to know your team."

Well, we passed the 50-game mark, and we have a 43% record headed into the lottery.

Thoughts, now that we know our team?

Ugh. Do you realize that if we had lost all 5 of those games from the 5 game win streak we'd have a 33% winning percentage? Which would be good for FOURTH in the lottery!

Kill me now.

thread title incorrect

it's actually, "it takes 50 games to know your team, 50 more games to make the presentation about what you know."

If we won all 7 of the games from the 7 game losing streak we would be the 7th seed and a game out of 6th. We can play the "What if..." game all day long.

It may take 50 games to "know your team," but it sure as he** didn't take 50 games to "know your coach." Apparently, the players don't like what they know any more than we do.

Dear Maloofs, this was a failure. Try again!!!

^^ except one scenario (losing all those games) leads to a chance at drafting someone who can really help the team, and the other scenario (winning all those games) leads to a pounding in a 7 game series at the hands of one of the western powerhouses.

If you say so. I think if we make the 6th seed it's worth going to playoffs isn't it? Maybe not. Maybe we should wait until we are good enough for the #1 seed before we should try to make the playoffs? Just throw all the rest of the seasons for draft picks. Man every team should do that. If in your first 10 games you aren't good enough to go all the way throw the rest of the season.

And if my mother had wheels, she'd be a bicycle.

We're NOT going to make the sixth seed. And we couldn't beat the third seed (presumably San Antonio) in a seven-game series, anyway. So no, it is not, in fact, worth it to make the playoffs.

I feel like I've said it a hundred times already, and I'll say it again: fighting for a playoff berth in a deep draft year when we can't win it all anyway is stupid.

yes, let's take this to extremes. are we a contender right now? honestly?? so what's the point of making it to the playoffs to get crushed, regardless of seed?

i'm talking about one specific year, this year, with THIS draft of talent.

but go ahead, let's all root for the playoffs. it's worked wonders the past two years. one and done, woohoo!!!!!

I didn't say we were going to be the 6th seed. Maybe you should read the previous posts to this thread.
You know, you might be able to make the case that I took your words out of context, but you cant' say that I misquoted you. Your exact words were:

And my answer to your question was "hell no it ain't."

I just used different words to say so. If you don't appreciate my "subtlety," I'll be more direct next time.

OK so if we were 1 game out of 6th at this point you would still be cheering for losses? Hoping the team loses?

if we were 1 game out of 6th, then that would mean we were actually a team with some cohesion and direction, perhaps a team on the rise. so no, i wouldn't be cheering for them to lose.

instead, we're nowhere near 6th, and a team full of cranky, declining veterans. i wonder why we're not in the real playoff hunt... what this team is, and what you think they can be, are worlds apart.

OK now we are on the same page. I was playing the "what if..." game with tjobrien. That was my only point.

ok. that game seems rather pointless when your stance was "what if we were actually good."

whereas his "what if" makes more sense, seeing as how we're not.
Exactly. Getting to one of the lower seeds is exciting, if its a young team on the way up. Its depressing when you're a team on the way down and getting trampled by the teams that are on their way to the top.

I refuse to give the question serious thought, on the grounds that, as far as I'm concerned, there's no scenario that makes the sixth seed feasible... We're two and a half games behind the eighth seed and falling, and you're talking about what if we were the sixth seed? We're seven games behind the sixth seed; there IS no what if! This isn't baseball, where they play another seventy or so games after the All-Star break; we're not going to make up seven games in the thirty-one games we have left.

But... what if a team of ninja storm the Staples Center during a game and kidnap Kobe Bryant? What if Carmelo Anthony gets suspended for the rest of the season? What if Kevin Garnett stumbles into a wardrobe and gets lost in Narnia? Those are pretty much the only what ifs that give us a chance to get to the sixth seed. And anyway, considering that the prize awaiting the sixth seed is San Antonio, hell no I'm not rooting that we get it.

The people running this team should either be trying to win a championship now, or win a championship later; there is no sequence of events that are going to lead to the Kings winning a championship in 2007, unless you happen to have an Infinite Improbability Drive handy, so they should be trying to win a championship later. And they can start by drafting a star.

So let me get this straight. We are allowed to say "What if we lost all 7 of those games that would have been great!!!" and not get jumped. But if we say "What if we won all 7 of those games..." then you broke a rule and should be beat down. Got it.

You should get "beat down" for thinking that both of those scenarios are equally likely.

This team is about a hundred percent likelier to lose seven in a row than it is to win seven in a row.

now this is just retorting to save face.

the kings have already lost 7. yes, they won 5 (which is great for the players, btw). but are they likely to win 7? no, because they just aren't a very good team, and their record shows it. further more, that streak where they lost 7 was agains the ATLANTIC division. does that actually make anyone think that this is a team that can win 7 in a row?

IF the Kings find themselves in a position to sneak into the sixth seed (and, my goodness, that's a monumental if), then they've managed to fail both at getting significantly better this year AND giving themselves the opportunity to get significantly better next year... at which point, really, who gives a ****? If they manage to miss this year's lottery, the end result is all the same -- get bumped in the first round, draft in the 20's, lather, rinse, repeat.
