Well well, unexpected girlage.

Gotta look on the bright side. :p

Just simply completely outclassed in this one, on both sides of the ball. Oh, and Jerry, gee having that shotblocker back there really does seem to make a difference doesn't it? Imagine that.

Boxscore

Greene ( C- ) -- almost came up with a great offensive board, wild drive +1. was working on defense, but picked up 2 quick fouls because of it. In the 2nd had a good d-board and then nice block fom behind to save a hoop. Drove into traffic, forced up the shot, did not get it, and barked at the ref and got the T. Responded well though, driving again and finsihing this time. Picked up his thrid foul a few mintues later. Was in around the hoop a lot on the d-boards, but rarely came up with the rebounds. Has the height, but not a natural rebounder. Started the third with a missed side jumper. Got out in the open court off a ball poked away by Landry and was just out of control and nearly lost it. With the disastrous third quarter collapse (the boxscore here is rather deceptive and obscures much of went on in this one), and his wild one on one play not helping, wqent to th bench and did not return.

Carla Campbell -- got this one in as a request after the last girls theme. I took it under advisement, carefully examined all the evidence, multiple times even, making sure to miss no details and look at the subject from every angle I could find, and decided yeah, that'll work. Jamaican SI model/super hottie Carla Cambell.

Landry ( C+ ) -- the numbers here look similar to what we have been getting, and if you didn't see the game and just had the box you would have ot think same ole same ole. But a much weaker overall game this time, whatever the numbers say. Missed his first jumper, then didn't touch the ball for something like 5 minutes. Up fake and under and by Aldridge for the +1 finish. Dunk off the nifty Reke spin drive and dump. No early rebounding again. Missed the spinning post move. Scored on the pass ahead from Reke on the break. Leveled Bayless in the open court on the pick to free Reke. Started the 2nd getting his first rebound on an o-board off a May miss which he dunked home. Knocked down the long jumper on the Beno kick. Called for the offensive foul backing his defender down. Got fouled with 6 seconds to go in the half while setting a screen, but split the pair and really had FT problems all night. Started the thrid with a strong take right, then finally grabbed a d-board. Missed the jumper, then scored over easily by Aldridge, and that began a remarkable run where our stubby PF was just scored over again and again by the 6'11" Aldridge as he dominated us in the quarter and carried the Blazers as they opened up the blowout. Landry was nearly stripped on the post move, then picked up an offensive foul trying again in there -- got called for several of those this game. Poked a ball away to Greene in the open court, but got beat again on defense and just smoked on that end in the 3rd. Scooped up a loose ball aftr returning in the 4th. Drew a foul in the post against Howard, but blew both FTs. Missed the facing jumper, and was hit in the face going for the offensive board and apparently lost a contact -- thought a millionaire athlete might just got for laser surgery in this day and age. Drew the double in the post, and kicked it out to Cisco for the three -- he does not do that as often as he should and is a very low assist guy, but played this one perfectly, waiting to set it up. Late jumper after the game was decided. Another offensive foul fighting for post position in the last 2 minutes. Got a final +1 continuation at the 1:00 mark of garbagetime, but then once again missed the FT as he was only 2-6 from the line this time. It was 18 and 6 again, that last number being a bit problematic, but more importantly getting all the details wrong that normally makes him more solid than the numbers, and tonight made him less. Beat on defense, missed shots at important times, picked up fouls and turnovers, missed FTs. Not at all his best.

Sara Evans -- country cutie Sara Evans. The hats may be silly, and can't say much for her politics, but country has shed its dowdy image in the last decade + (I think really since Shania shocked them by brazenly showing her navel -- horrors) and turned out a number of hotties.

Hawes ( D+ ) -- along with Jason just seems to be caught in an arrested development cycle and jsut can't seem to string togetehr any real stretch of strong games here. This time it was turnover and defensive woes again -- oh it would be so so nice to see a player turn the corner against the KIngs defense and not know, absolutely know, that he was going to be able to slash all the way to the hoop challenged in no other way than by a potential slap foul for a +1. Picked off a Miller pass in the early going, then picked up an offensive foul on the break after Reke dumped it to him in awkward position. Shuffled his feet trying to get the post move over Camby -- guess at least you could say he was going at him. But going at a guy and getting your butt kicked is only a mild improvement. Got called for a three second violatin just half a second before Beno hit him for a pass that would have been a dunk. Blocked in the post against Camby again, but Beno got the ball back to him and he laid it up. No idea why so much of the offense was running through Spencer in the first stint -- he wasn't getting much done and he was going against the Blazers best defender. Methinks this strategy came off of McMillan's board, not Westphal's. In briefly in the second and fought for one good d-board. Began the 3rd with a ad pass turnvoer. Got a dunk on the break from Reke for his other hoop, and came up with a good block. But with us threatening to go down 30 was pulled so that he awesome JT/May pairing could have their shot at it.

Ashley Greene -- hottie product of the whole Twilight phenomenon

Udrih ( B- ) -- came right out and carreid over the hot shooting from last game. Hit his first J again, then drove right in and knocked down a little jumper in the paint. Followed up with bad pass turnover in the paint, right into a bunch of traffic as theblazers had us flummoved defesively right from the start. Then a hesitation drive and layup along the baseline. In off the bench in the second and immedialtely curled to the foul line area and drained another jumper. Missed the spinning drive. In the 3rd finally hit an angle three after we had fallen behind by 19, but otherwise was silent. Was little better in the 4th with the game largely over. Started with the drive and missed wild flip, but then ran the pick and roll nicely and pulled up for the little jumper. Missed the curling flip out of the timeout at the 2:00 mark. Minutes were actually a litle shy given that he was at least effective offensively part of the time -- might have been getting blown by repeatedly on defense again -- but truth is that Portland largely shut him down as well after half.

Courtney Thorne Smith -- from back in the day

Evans ( C- ) -- This started out promisingly -- it even looked like there might be a possibility of a back to back triple double. But after the strong start the Blazers locked in, backed off into the paint and said "I dare you Mr. Shaky J", and Reke was renedered as ineffective as everybody else for the last half of this one. In the first a drive and turnover on the pass attempt to Spencer inside, then missed a standstill three. Power drive and over the shoulder flip for the finish. Missed a pull up J. On the boards early again. Got fouled on the drive after he split two Blazers out on the court. Nice spin drive dropoff to Landry. Grabbed his 6th d-board of the first quarter alone and threw it ahead nicely to Landry for the layup on the break. After Landry crushed Bayless with the big pick, Reke got right to the hoop again to close off a very strong first quarter. Started the second with yet another rebound and full court penetrating move. Missed a long three, and again those jumpers just were not close. Tried to flop against Aldridge, and gave up the easy layin because of it. Near steal on Batum, but it rolled out of bounds. Called for the offensive foul on the drive when Miller ran under him. The third was a disaster for us, and his struggles were a major part of it. Not able to sneak one over the rim off the cut along the baseline into traffic. Pull up jumper no hope. Wild pass crosscourt flew three feet over Cisco's head. Called for the travel on the drive. Late late foul call against him on the steal attempt again. Wasn't sure we wee going to bring him back in the 4th with the game pretty close to over. When he did he got the double doble, but not really efecctive again. Grabbed a d-board and went full court for the layup, which was the 10th of each. Then airballed the jummper out of the timeout. Offensive foul on the drive late. Hey, I guess at elast got the rebounds up over the 5 mark forthe 20-5-5. But the shooting collapse has now abruptly began to threaten the scoring column for that historic acheivement. 64 games into his rookie season and having to be feeling the fatigue and pressure, he's probably about ready for this to be over.

The very cute Nicki Aycox.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bench

Casspi ( D+ ) -- well, Westphal tried to give him minutes again. Thew rotations ahve been a lot more sensible these last couple of games. But the pateint may be dead. Or at least his legs. Just can't get it going, but at least looked more lively -- indeed if the legs are gone, they seem mostl gone ont he shot. He's competing pretty well otherwise. Then he goes to shoot, and nothing there. Got stripped on the drive to start, then off on the three. When he returned in the third missed the side jumper. Finally hit a nice little step back jumper, but then got lost on the pick and Batum got the layup. Near steal but could not come up with it. Flip on the drive rolled out. Grabbed a d-board and selfishly took it all the way up the court and missed the jumper. Called for the offensive foul trying to post. Nearly hit the desperation three at the buzzer to close the third. Finished with an enormously empty looking 2pts 1reb 2 TO on 1-6 shooting night, but thgouth it was better than that. Not good. But better than that.

Mia Kirschner

Thompson ( C ) -- sigh. Jason is old. For a second year player that is. In the modern era he's old for his class. Now being old is generally not a good thing, but one of the advantages is SUPPOSED to be that you get smarter. With age comes wisdom and all that. And then you have JT, who not only completely lacks it on the court, but who doesn't seem to be picking any up as he gets older. The early going here was a comedy of errors. Just ran over Miller pushing him out of bounds for a foul, missed the facing jumper. Made his 1434th dumb error this year fouling Bayless out near halfcourt at the closing buzzer of the first quarter and letting him have 3 FTs. Attempted high low post feed to Landry for a turnover. Missed a side jumper. Fouled on the drive and got a flagrant foul called basically for being clumsy and falling when his arm was grabbed. Well that and the refs are bunch of little old ladies (no offense intended to little old ladies everywhere -- many of you are tougher). Missed the drive. Nice pass on the push to Hawes for the dunk. In late in the third 3rd and hit the little pullup. 4th Got these stats up in the semi-garbagetime fo the 4th. Scored over by Aldridge easily, but hit the jumper back the other way. Half drive and pullup +1, but missed the FT. Then called for the 5th foul trying to stop Aldridge again. Bad pass turnver inside. Little spinning post move. Dunk on the pick and roll from Beno -- second aggressive dunk he's had on those in the last week. Maybe he finally is getting it there. Boarded over by Pendergraph in the last 2 minutes. O-board and fouled at the 40 second mark. Super garbage jumper at the end when we didn't even have to take the shot and could have just run out the clock. 15 pts on 6-9 shooting = woot right? Not so much. Only grabbed 2 rebs on the ngiht, made numerous boneheaded errors, and most fo the numbers were piled o late after the game was more or less decided. I can't go too low for any player who showed some offensive competence in this one, but neither can I go too high for all the things that disguised by the boxscore. Looked better late, but this wasn't one of JTs better games.

Tangmo Pattarathida -- this was the result of a targeted search. I went out looking for "beautiful thai", just because, and the end result was this girl being voted #1 in a poll. I came. I saw. I said this is good. Very good. Now all you have to do is figure out how to pronounce her name and you can go ahead and ask her out.

Cisco ( B ) -- quite possibly the best King on the night, little as that is saying. Shot over by Roy after entering and never showed any ability to handle him at all on defense. In the 2nd hit a three on the crosscourt kick from Reke. Good hesitating take to the rim. After the break fouled on the backdoor cut, hit 1 of 2. Hit the three on the crosscourt pass. Missed a layup on the break, but got it back and finished through traffic. In the 4th airballed a three for whatever reason, then came back and hit the next one from Landry. Left his feet on the pass and turned it over. Almost turned it over on another drive and hsakier wiht the ball than the numbers indicate. Hustle steal in garbagetime and laid it in.

Wanida Gybzy Termthanaporn -- yes, you got the name right. Also on that list of Thai beauties was "Gybzy", a Thai cutie who apparently has a girl band over thre called "Girly Berry". I get the feeling she occupies the same singing sweetheat sort of positon as Vanessa Hudgens did over here maybe. Anyway, very cute.

May ( B- ) -- In in the second, missed the jumper, got the blocking foul trying to stop a break by getting wide. Missed the post move. Made a spinning post move off the glass. Physical drive bouncing Aldridge out of the way for the layup. Had a few empty minutes at the end fo the 3rd, and stayed in for the early 4th where he scooped up a Cisco miss and laid it in. Stood out in this one just for being a King that there wasn't much to say bad things about.

May Pitchanart -- and hey, while we are there, also also on that list was May Pritchanart, who presents a much more mature and dangerous kind of beauty.

Udoka ( INC ) -- in briefly in the second after all other options seemed to be failing us. Did nothing in his minutes.

Adriana Lima -- alright, enough with the Thai cuties, and let's go with one of the big names. While I have often tried to dig up lesser know girls for these things, and had an informal rule of trying to avoid duplication or using any of the girls from our Hot Babes thread from a few years ago, its a lot of legwork given how many of these threads there have been in the last couple of years, and I think I am going to start mixing the famously established beauties in again if we keep on having these bad nights. Besides I have NEVER heard a complaint form a male over another Lima pic.

Temple ( INC ) -- in for the last few seconds of the half, just long enough to see the Blazers go full court in 6 seconds and score at the buzzer. In at the end of the third as we collapsed. Grabebd a d-board. Lost control of the ball on the drive, but got it back along the baseline and went back up and hit the jumper. Poke steal against Bayless. Called for the breathing foul in the corner against Bayless to close the quarter. In the final stanza fouled and hit both FTs. Heavily harassed Bayless, but got too aggressive and Bayless got around him and into the 80 year old gums of our toothless interior defense. Picked in the open court to start a Blazers break after we had got it down to 19. Pulled soon after. Did a few little good things, a few not so good things. Enough to maybe be encouraged over, not enough I think to demand being kept and given guaranteed money.

Oh, and Jerry, gee having that shotblocker back there really does seem to make a difference doesn't it? Imagine that.
Now I know that Jerry has said in the past something to the effect that shotblocking doesn't matter, but since you probably didn't get to hear the Kings feed tonight I'll give you a few quotes from Jerry from tonight's game about Marcus Camby:

He's one of those guys - do not look at the stat line. It really does not tell his value. There's a few players like that in the league, and I've always said Marcus Camby is one of those guys that can help any team in the league. Any team. Talking to a couple of coaches before the game, for the Blazers, we were talking about that very thing that certainly (mumble) he has made their team better. I've always said that the real stat on Marcus Camby is just this: he led the University of Massachusetts to the NCAA finals, now you haven't seen them back there lately, have you?
He has provided that help. He is exactly what the doctor ordered. They've got enough scoring out on the perimeter and depth there so they needed a guy like him. And who doesn't?
When you've got Marcus Camby back there playing goalie he (Tyreke) knows that beating his man is just the first problem and not even the major one...Maybe trying to create a little too much.
So, it seems like he does in fact recognize the benefits of having a Marcus Camby.

Last year we saw a very promising Jason Thompson and Spencer Hawes. Looked like we might just have our future PF and C.

ummm, ya.....no so much any more.

So when is somebody going to work with Tyreke on that ugly jump shot. I mean its been all year and it still almost hits the damn rafters and falls short 80% of the time. I mean you would think he has been playing basketball for years his shot would be better than that of a freshmen in highschool.

Like a lot of the overwelming physical specimens who come into the league I think it was always just all too easy for them growing up to pummel people inside, so never worked on the jumper, and midseason in the NBA is not really the time to fix it. I would be shocked if there is not a huge effort put into total reconstruction during the 5 months of this offseason however.

It's gonna take the better part of an entire off season to unlearn the bad habits 'Reke has picked up over the years regarding his jump shot. The fade away is a great shot if you are in the lane and need a few inches to clear the shot blockers. But EVERY jumper 'Reke takes is a fade away. Last night on the broadcast, since the game wasn't worth talking about, they were comparing 'Reke's jumper and Beno's jumper. 'Reke was shooting unguarded fade away 3's. He has bad form on his release, a lot of wasted motion on his delivery, and needs to work on his footwork when he shoots. The Kings have a great shooting coach in Mario Elie who will work with 'Reke to take the hitch out of his jumper, get him to square up and stop shooting fade aways when no one is guarding him, and improve his release and overall shot selection. Elie was a pretty good shooter in his day.

Maybe Fat Lever could help 'Reke as well, because Fat was an All Star shooter who was the best pure shooter in his day. There is going to be a complete overhaul of 'Reke's jumpshot and that will start the day after the season is over. This will be a major undertaking by the entire Kings coaching staff. It is imperative that 'Reke Rectify his jumper, because they are gonna give him wide open jumpers because of his ability to drive to the rim. If he can start hitting a good percentage of those wide open 15-18 footers, it will open up his entire game. His drives will be more successful, his ability to see his teammates for assists will improve, and he will get more foul calls because they will have to guard him tighter. ALSO they have to fix his free throw shooting as well. He shoots high arching fade away free throws too!

Great thing is that all the bad habits 'Reke has picked up over the years can be unlearned. He has the work ethic, athletic ability and skill to become a good to great jumpshooter. He already has the ability to get himself open for any shot he wants because of his quickness and athleticism. It is just a matter of fine tuning his release, footwork, and mechanics. Dwane Wade had a terrible looking jumper when he entered the league, and now he has a sweet stroke. And Wade has now improved all facets of his game because they have to play him on the perimeter to make that jump shot. The same will happen for Tyreke when he consistently hits that outside jumper. Eventually they will have him making consistent shots all the way out to the 3 point line. Once 'Reke has that jumper down, his scoring will go way up because he will get fouled more often, open up the lane for better drives and assists, make more free throws, and score from the perimeter more often. He is a hard working kid that wants to get better. With hard work and the right teachers he will become a triple threat. We all forget that this is a RAW 20 year old kid with only one year of college experience. He has plenty of time to improve his game and become a prolific scorer.

On a side note, how is it a team like Portland has TWO bigs go down (Oden and Prizbilla) and are able to acquire TWO replacements in Howard and Camby? Why were the Kings unable to get even one of those Guys? I really hope Petrie can drag at least one good veteran big to Sacramento via trade or free agency. Hawes needs help in the post, and a veteran big to learn from might help him improve his game (that and adding about 25 lbs of muscle this off season by actually DOING the off season workouts that the strength and conditioning coaches are telling him to do..). Our lack of a big man is painfully obvious when we bring in Sean May and our team improves dramatically. May has promise if he can lose the extra pounds and keeps working on his jumper.

Went to the game last night and there was zero effort from anyone on the court. Anyways does anyone know what the 2 girls in red mini skirts were promoting? Besides looking damn good they looked out of place in red outfits.

I totally agree. I understand Bricky's point about not needing to ever work on it because he's gotten to the rim at will his entire life but it's still surprising that it's this bad. Since he started playing basketball I'm sure he shoots a lot of jumpers in practice. It's not like when he practices he just does layups for 2 hours. You would think that his technique would we a little bit better.

I'm not too worried about it though. I think he will make big improvements in that area this offseason.

Biggest fail - Kings fans unable to drown out 50 Portland fans

I was at the game last night hoping to see another performance like Weds that I missed because of work - boy was it dissapointing

But what really got under my skin was 50 Portland fans bunched together in Sec 214 in the nosebleeds. They brought their own thundersticks, had organized chants "Lets go Portland" and defense chants that were rivaling the whole arena of Kings fans.

then carls Jr gave away a bunch of coupons to a whole section, slot machine wheel 2, 1, (I was excited at this point being in 219),4
Geez maloofs had to give them free food too?

Then the capper , shortly after the coupons, the 50 fans all got up and walked rather boldly down to the lower level half way down the lower bowl an occupied 3 rows of empty season ticket seats and resumed their organized chants WTF !!!!

Me and my GF were so pissed off!!! What the hell just happened? did Maloofs decide to uprade all these bozos to lower bowel seats? All us loyal kings fans going game after game and they get to sit at lower level?
I was ready to run down to Kings row and slap the crap out of Gavin myself! after about 10 minutes I guess the staff woke up and ushered them back upstairs, but where were all the ushers when they filed down to the seats?

And no I have no problems with other team fans normally, there was two Portland fans sitting next to me, and they were cool people, But its my personal opinion when you vist someone elses arena, you show some respect, sure you clap when your team scores, but you shouldnt be rude to the home team fans, be obnoxiously loud, and try to ruin it for the home team fans.

But the kings fans, did little to drown out these guys, and yeah there wasnt much to cheer about at this game, I did as much cheering, defense sceams as my voice allowed, but it had to be tough on our boys below to hear that much from those Portland fans vs their own fans.

Oh well I'll get off my soap box now

GO KINGS !!!!!!!

I think the early offense going through Spencer was an attempt to get Camby to guard him instead of the basket.

This year at least Jerry has been specific to say that shots blocked were an overrated stat, not shot blockers themselves. Sorta like how Brian Skinner was a "surprise shotblocker", in that he'd get hands on a few balls without intimidating at the rim.

Oh yeah one more thing!!!

The portland fans all had RED Portland t****s on and the first time
OUR Royal court dancers took the floor they all had RED Carls Jr tops on!!

Is Carls Jr headquartered in Portland or something, Its a conspiracy I say!

Sorta like when the Celtics came to town and Maloofs choose that night to reveal the new Usher GREEN tshirts

HEY MALOOFS OUR TEAM COLORS ARE PURPLE!!!! HELLO!!!!!!

Sorry everyone my 70 hour weeks are making me a little grumpy LOL

You assume he will be working out with the Kings coaches this summer and not team tyreke who failed to create a good jumper in the first place.

When things are bad, we can count on you to be there to try to make it worse. When things are good you magically disappear. So I guess there is more than one good thing when the Kings win.....

I am one of the biggest Hawes apologists on this board, but I thought he deserves an F for last nights debacle. Not only did he contribute basically nothing, but each time he screwed-up (which was many) I could see him dropping F bombs in the direction of the refs.

Seriously dude, your not playing well. At least own it.

edit: Someone did a brain transplant after New Year's I think, because the first couple months of the season JT was $$$$$$...now he's just &@*#!!
did i miss something? I watched the whole game and I didn't see where JT cost us the game or made any more foolish mistakes than anybody else. Enlighten me.

So when is somebody going to work with Tyreke on that ugly jump shot. I mean its been all year and it still almost hits the damn rafters and falls short 80% of the time. I mean you would think he has been playing basketball for years his shot would be better than that of a freshmen in highschool.
You don't reconstruct a jump shot during an nba season, especially during a rookie season. Tyreke has enough to worry about. Distributing the ball, running an nba offense, figuring how to attack defenses while being shadowed by 2-3 defenders, studying his opponents, etc.

There is so much to learn as a rookie, recontructing a jumper mid-season would be of little benefit. Now, if Tyreke hasn't shown any improvement after this coming offseason, that would be any area of concern. I'm not concerned about the work ethic of the best 20 yr old this league has seen since Lebron. I think it's highly unlikely we don't see noticable improvement in Tyreke's jumper going into next season.
