Current Kings roster and holes to fill

I don’t think that’s necessarily true for Buddy and Barnes, at least, given the declining nature of their contracts (and given Buddy’s need to bounce back from last season’s performance on the court).

Well that’s encouraging in the sense that he’s exactly the type we should be chasing. And encouraging that this didn’t come out until now. We may need to spice up our pitch, though!

Current Kings roster and holes to fill

Right. I don’t think we should assume that McNair’s approach is necessarily “tank season.” Teams in the Kings position can also find success with identifying undervalued assets, rehabbing their value, and then selling high (see Paul, Chris). Depending on the price, this could be what’s behind...

There might be something to that. And it likely depends on how you define “analytics” and what specific stats you look at. The new catch-all rating John Hollinger put together to value this year’s free agents values Whiteside at just over $17 million...

Current Kings roster and holes to fill

I wouldn’t mind taking a flier on Noah Vonleh (25) or Thon Maker (23) at the minimum. Unless we’re dealing Holmes, I’d rather not pay more than the minimum for what amounts to be a third center, especially one over 25 (Whiteside, Len).

    Woj: Kings let Bogi go

Reading Amick’s notes between the lines, I get the sense that Monte wants to retool/rebuild around Fox and players of his age, and the Ranadives are resisting. But I could be reading that completely wrong.

    Woj: Kings let Bogi go

Yeah, with how quickly the Bogi story leaked right after the Holiday deal, it seems reasonably clear to me that some one with the Bucks was feeling themselves a little too much.

Math is wrong on that, as he’s since walked back: would have to renounce the MLE, too, but I guess actual space is more useful than an exception.

Poll: should the Kings match the offer for Bogi?

but what if we called it the “3-guard Monte” lineup?

Funnily enough, the folks at tankathon.com do not rest and appear to be updating “reverse standings” as the offseason goes on. They have the Kings currently slotted for the sixth pick.

Poll: should the Kings match the offer for Bogi?

And I wonder if that’s a viable strategy, because to maximize the return for Buddy and Barnes in terms of young pieces, you’re probably taking on similar or worse contacts, too.

Poll: should the Kings match the offer for Bogi?

That route isn’t available to the Kings this year unless they use assets to get under the cap (which of course defeats the purpose). I haven’t looked at how 2021-22 looks with Fox’s new extension on the books, though.

Poll: should the Kings match the offer for Bogi?

3 was too easy, so I didn’t include it ;) And you don’t have to trade Buddy within the timeframe to match, necessarily. You just have to feel good about your ability to do so before the season, or before the trade deadline really.

Yes, but don’t forget Buddy already had COVID-19, so he may be immune, which should boost his trade value ;).

Poll: should the Kings match the offer for Bogi?

I thought it would be interesting to make a poll: Bogi has signed an offer sheet from the Hawks worth $72 million for four years, with a trade kicker. Should the Kings match? Offer sheet details below:

Id be open to a Buddy for Wiggins type deal if Golden State sent that 2021 Timberwolves pick back. Otherwise, no thanks
