For the second time this offseason, the Serbian is heading for a procedure on his left knee after an MRI revealed a minor injury. The timetable for his return is unknown at this time.

Bogdanovic re-injured his knee Monday while playing for the Serbian national team in World Cup qualifying. He felt discomfort in the knee during the first quarter against Estonia and left the game early. Once Bogdanovic was back in Sacramento, the Kings medical staff evaluated the 26-year-old wing this week and determined that action was needed.

According to the Kings, Monday’s procedure will be performed by Dr. Riley Williams in New York, and Bogdanovic is expected to make a full recovery. The team will send an update when more is known.

Bogdan Bogdanovic Medical Update

Sacramento Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic exited Serbia’s 91-65 World Cup Qualifying victory over Estonia on Monday after experiencing left knee discomfort early in the first quarter. Further evaluation revealed a minor injury to his left knee. On Monday, a minor arthroscopic procedure is scheduled at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, to be performed by Dr. Riley Williams. Bogdanovic is expected to make a full recovery and an update will be provided when it is available.

Better now than later. Having had torn meniscus in both my knee's, I can speak from some personal experience. My guess is that the problem would have reared its ugly head eventually. Usually this is what happens when they don't quite get all of it the first time, so they have to go back in and clean it up. About the only thing that can go wrong is getting an infection, which happened to a friend of mine. That was a long time ago, and I'm sure they take much better precautions today.

It's minor surgery and not very invasive. My guess is that it will take around 4 weeks before he's ready to step back on the court. Keep in mind that my guess is based on what I think is going on and I could be dead wrong. Bottom line is, it's not a serious type of injury.

He shouldn’t have been playing meaningless minutes last year, or extending himself this summer

But yeah, Buddy isn’t a bench player, and I expect him to break out. Forcing Joerger to put Bogdan at 3 if that plays out. I like Jackson better than most too, and Shump ready, so not really worried too much about the games in a rebuilding season. But the injury is more of nothing going right for this team continually, Kangz, and I hope he recovers 100%

He was playing for his national team. He was cleared to do so. I know it rankles some of you, but international players are as entitled to play for their national teams as Anerican players are entitled to play for TeamUSA.
The Kings don't "own" players when they sign contracts, but many basketball players have clauses in their contracts where they can't do activities like skateboard, snowboard, skydiving, etc. Teams have a close eye on their players, and I don't fault them for it. I just wonder what caused this injury. Was it a botched first one? Or was it re-injured in Europe? Or did he rush to play? There's a big difference between the three..and I think it would be important for the team to find out. I think Bogdan has 10000% right to play for his NT, but was he cleared by the Kings staff?

Either way, it does affect the Kings. It's a minor thing....but let's hope it's not major. Even if it's a minor surgery, 2 surgeries in 6 months is not a good look at all.

This is also only the FIBA Cup qualifiers. Jokic and Tedosoic did not participate.

Sucks. Hate to see stories like this but it doesn't sound too severe.

Many players have made low-risk choices to not play for their NT. In some countries, like Turkey a YOUNG Enes Kanter was VILLIFIED in the press for skipping out on the NT (was front-page news bashing him). Especially younger players should consider the horror story of Dante Exum, idk how you could argue against saying that his ACL tear playing for the Aussie NT in 2015 stunted his growth as an nba player.

82 games + playoffs is already way too much basketball, ask a knee specialist, or just watch the playoffs and final months of the season and you will see players with all sorts of injuries hampering them... Anything ontop of this already over the top schedule only exacerbates injury risk.

I knew it was not good news as soon as he left that game. As I mentioned in another thread, it was not a case of playing before he was ready. He did his rehab, he did his individual training, practice, etc... But that is the scary thing: he was cleared to play but something still went wrong. This sounds to me like it will keep happening.

If it keeps happening it will affect his next contract negatively for sure.

yeah, i was looking forward to him taking a large step forward this season. This will definitely set him back. I think the team's medical staff should have figured this out in the last part of the last season when he probably exacerbated and made this injury worse while playing through it. We are short on shooters and now we are one more down.

Sounds like more opportunity for Justin Jackson in the short term.

hopefully this isn't something that will linger in his career moving forward, two knee procedures in less than one year is not something you want to read about. It's bad enough that fans worry about Harry and his knees but now Bogs joins the conversation? yikes.

There goes the largest chunk of our playmaking ability.
I'd love to see a thread/poll on how many here actually believe that Bogdanovic is a better playmaker than De'Aaron Fox. Lets see if that opinion stands the test of time, or if it's a rushed judgement. I'm going with the latter.

The Kings were tanking last year LOL... Z-bo was the leading scorer. In some constricted slow Z-bo led offense (WORST OFFENSE IN THE LEAGUE BTW 98PPG) yeah, maybe Bogdan at 25 years old is a better playmaker because it's all halfcourt at the pace of a snail..

On a real NBA team that can run, which is why they drafted Fox, it's not even close tho.

What’s your definition of play maker? Getting the ball to teammates in open positions where they want to shoot or going fast from end to end? If your definition is the former I would definitely say Bogdan.

This injury is definitely on the Kings and Bogdan’s own stubbornness. It has been documented players likelyhood of injury increases significantly when fatigued. Bogdan was clearly exhausted and the Kings played him extensive minutes anyway. Hard to justify when other teams in your situation were resting healthy players. It’s just another data point reinforcing the perception the Kings front office and coaching staff is inept.

The injury concerns are very worrisome. I think that a lot of us was hoping Bogdan could slide into start at Small Forward and allow Buddy to start at Shooting Guard.

Well, if I were the Kings at this point, I would be concerned with having Bogdan play out of position against bigger players at Small Forwards. His body may not be able to handle the pounding from NBA Small Forwards.

If Buddy takes off as the starting Shooting Guard (as I think he will ;)) to start the season, I may be looking to bring Bogdan off the bench as our super 6th man, SG/PG. I don't know if I would jeopardize his body by having him play against NBA small forwards too much.

Kings weren’t concerned when they were pursuing LaVine

I’m slightly concerned about his athleticism at the 2, and think it’s better served at the 3 on both sides, but that’s just opinion

On the contrary if he's having knee issues he might be better off sticking to bigger slower players. Bogdan can handle it. Watching teams run him into screens in pick and roll last year makes me think playing SF is much more fitting for him.

I remember many issues like this taking about that long in the past, but recently it seems like some players I've seen have this issue are out like 2-3 months if not 4.

Google says this:

"Rehabilitation time for a meniscus repair is about 3 months. A meniscectomy requires less time for healing — approximately 3 to 4 weeks."

Is the latter what Bogdan already had? If so then this might suck.
