what was the last movie you watched?

:(
These movies are hilarious. I was torn an ultimately didn't pick up Statham's Mechanic remake. Probably will at some point when the bluray dips under $10 which is the price point I have picked up all his other movies at.

I don't know what I'm in the mood for tonight, I would actually like to see Hangover 2 but can probably wait til that one comes home.
The remake of Mechanic is not bad. I've seen both and the action is better in the remake because of modern techniques and Jason is a better athlete than Bronson. :) It's a bit like Transporter meets the Mechanic as to how Statham's character plans his jobs. That's a good thing.

Crank gave me a headache and I watched it only because of Jason Statham.

yeah, the manic shooting was a bit headache inducing but it was so far over the top it caught me off guard enough to enjoy it.

The Swedes are very good. Just watched Mother of Mine which is based on a true situation. Not Hollywoodish at all and to explain why would give away the ending. Just plain sad pretty much all the way through. Great movie. Leaves you a bit numb at the end.

Then out of boredom I watched Ahhhnold's first movie, Hercules in New York. Watch 5 minutes, watch 10 minutes, watch a half hour, watch the whole thing. It's bad but interesting ONLY because this guy made something of himself. Must have shot it in a week using next to no script. The best actor was Arnold Stang which tells you a lot.

Some people consider Das Boot the best war movie ever made. The complaints I have seen say that it moves at too slow a pace as it lasts over 3 hours with an hour added to the original movie. I loved it. It's a war drama as opposed to an action war movie. Apparently it comes in a dubbed version with British accents or subtitled.

Das Boot is a very good movie. We have a cinema series at my work where we show movies on the LCD projector in the conference room, and a few years ago we showed Das Boot. There's an intermission in the film, but just before the intermission there was a very tense scene where the submarine was hiding, engines off and the entire crew being as quiet as possible to avoid being detected by the enemy sub. Anyway, right after that came the intermission, and everybody got up to go to the snack table to get more popcorn and drinks, and after a few minutes we realized that nobody was talking and everybody was tiptoeing around and trying to be as quiet as possible while getting popcorn - the movie brought us in so effectively we were acting as if we were on the submarine ourselves. So yeah, good movie.

watched a few lately.
Tangled. Loved it! I want a horse like that.
I Am Number 4,it was ok, felt they could have done more and I'm not a big fan of dark lighting movies. I actually want to see the movies I watch and dark lighting doesn't really allow that.
Life As We Know It...so/so..could have used a bit more comedy and less foul language(but I've gotten really sensitive to that). Had potential to be a better movie then it was.
HP Deathly Hallows Pt 1...good.

Whiners! Europe got it as a 3 piece miniseries. That version clocks in just under 5 hours.

I wasted a lot of my prime time this weekend hanging the projector on the ceiling, old one was shelf mount job. Now my basement is a mess. Thankfully I've still got one more day to cram stuff in. I picked up Gnomeo and Juliet for the little guy and will get to work on my queue once I finish my weekend chores.

First movie out of the queue done... watched Inception. I guess I could have watched two shorter movies, but I had been holding off on this one for months. Definitely worthy of being the first movie on the new PJ. A visual treat with a great story to go along with it, its so frequently a trade off of one or the other these days.

I am watching the series of DVDs called America: the Story of Us. It is for history buffs and perhaps even for those of us with a little pride over what it took to create this country. Most of us have a vague notion of the Mayflower, revolution, slavery, civil war and the like but this adds names which personalizes it. It is streaming on Netflix. Didn't think I'd like it but it is very well done.

pdx, what kind of projector are you using? I know there are some amazing toys that I still either can't afford or haven't purchased. :) I have a feeling we have a similarity in our love of movies.

Watched Gnomeo and Juliet with TJ, it was a big 90 minute long Elton John video, so if you like him it's probably worth checking out even if you don't have kids. Since 80% of the songs are recognizable its a lot more tolerable when the music comes on than some of the music made in kids movies these days though it is sad that there hasn't been a great Disney musical in some time.

Glenn, my new projector is a LED based DLP 1080p projector. The advantage of the LED technology means I can turn it on and off at my leisure and run for hours without fear of dimming or needing to buy a new lamp. Definitely on the high end cost wise but there are plenty of regular lamp based projectors that are priced competitively with large flat screens. The biggest thing is needing a dark room with a big enough space to put it in. Gotta love finished basements for that purpose :)

The Town - the best heist movie since Heat? I think I will have to rewatch both.

Date Night - funny though some of the home life hit a little close to home.

Fell asleep watching the Finals last night before I could get any more movies in.

Saw the Hangover 2 on Saturday.

It's entertaining, funny and raunchy, but not original.

The sequel is just taking the cast with same issue but this time in another part of the world.

It was very predictable.

The Hangover was much better because it was so original.

I read there will be a third Hangover. Maybe someone will have a baby shower.

One of the reviews I read called Hangover 2 the most profitable game of Mad Libs ever. Thought that was pretty funny. Too bad they couldn't come up with a more original story.

Not a movie per se, but I just picked up the 30 for 30 set at Best Buy on Blu Ray, had almost given in and bought the DVDs recently but apparently it just came out exclusive to BB. The ones I have seen on ESPN are fantastic and there are quite a few others I have been extremely interested in that I wasn't able to catch.

Started 30 for 30 last night. Watched "Without Bias" which was the Len Bias story. Now Len's death certainly shaped my adolescence and decision making as a teen and even into adulthood but all I really knew about him was a player was when I shared an office with a UNC guy that had seen him play vs. Jordan in person and he said he would have been the GOAT hands down. So that is high praise indeed. It was very well put together with his teammates, including his buddy who was the one guy who socially used drugs with Len, which contradicted all the 80s drug scare stories about how he had never touched it and it was just one and done with the guy. Hey, I know that worked on me so I don't have any problem with the way it was presented to kids. But as the documentary showed it also caused the passage of some horrible mandatory minimum sentencing rules that are responsible for the over crowded prisons we have today. I also had never really heard the story of Len's brother Jay which was touched on briefly at the end of the doc. Also a NCAA caliber player he was gunned down outside a shopping mall in 1990. I was really impressed by Len's mother in this piece.

There are quite a few other stories I am looking forward to watching this weekend - "The Two Escobars", about the Colombian soccer player assassinated after scoring the own goal vs. USA in 1994 and Pablo Escobar's influence on their soccer culture; "The U", about Miami's football program in the 80s; "Straight Outta LA", about the Raiders in LA and their influence on hip hop/gang culture; "Small Potatoes: Who Killed the USFL?" and the one I will likely watch next "Once Brothers" about Vlade Divac and Dražen Petrović's relationship once the former Yugoslavia divided.

I'd say you're picking the right one to go with first in Once Brothers - it's a very sad story and well told. The Two Escobars is also fantastic.

The U, on the other hand, didn't do much for me. There wasn't enough "story" (maybe the first ten and last ten minutes) and the rest seemed to be mostly "glory" footage of games. If you were a fan at the time, it's probably fun. If you didn't care, the story doesn't carry it.

I am actually a big Miami hater so its more out of curiosity. Its funny because for so many people one story or the other may be tops or it may be bottom. I've read so much hate about "Four Days in October", as a lifelong Sox fan I don't care how it stacks up artistically, I had to have that in my collection to watch every once in a while to relive one of the greatest fan moments of my lifetime. I've also heard some negative things about the NBA being too involved with the production of "Once Brothers" but again that is one close to my heart with Vlade plus I remember being dazzled by Petrovic when I was in high school and his death really being a tragic shock.

Really though I go through the list and can't find one that doesn't look thoroughly interesting, I almost feel compelled to watch in order but there are some I have really wanted to see for a long time now that I'll probably watch first and then hit the rest in order.

X-Men First Class, go see it. It'll make up for the third movie.

Not really spoilers more like observations but if your like me and like going into a movie as blind as possible don't read:

Missing accents for certain characters bothered me a little bit. Emma Frost is the perfect role for January Jones. Telepathy so she doesn't have to talk and diamond skin to hide her lack of emotion. Also the villains style looked like the Black Eyed Peas.

Gojira - 1954. Don't watch unless you are having difficulty falling asleep. In its defense, it was probably the most thoughtful of the Japanese "creature threatens mankind or each other" movies but the acting, etc. was horrible.

Yeah, I caught this yesterday too. Thought the first half was just a little uneven at times, but it really hit it's stride later in the film.

Morbid curiosity got the better of me and I watched Human Centipede. It was about what I expected, except with worse acting. Don't know what else to say.

X-Men: First Class told a fantastic story with great action. My only real complaints are it's based loosely on the comic books and there are continuity errors with the previous films. Looking forward to the next film.

I believe First Class is intended to reboot the franchise so continuity errors would be expected.
This crap just torques me. They are rebooting the Hulk again I think. Rebooting Spiderman, too? Now, "rebooting" X-Men just what, 11 years after the first movie in a VERY successful 4-movie franchise?

If you want to do prequels or sequels, I think it is great. But to retell stories over and over again when the originals are that fresh (or in some cases, well-done to begin with) just doesn't make much sense to me. I don't want to see all these movies redone every 5 years. I want to see new stories told! Not the same old ones with a twist or two.

Instead of rebooting Spiderman, for example, just move on to other stories with a new actor!

I did like the fact that Batman was redone however, as the Michael Keaton, et al, series was an abomination. I like bad guys more like Heath Ledger's, not Danny DeVito's portrayals.

I'm not huge on the reboots just because I think if they feel a franchise has gone stale then maybe it should be shelved a bit longer than the standard window for a sequel would have been. Batman had been 7 years but more like 15 since the Kilmer/Clooney flicks were so poorly received. But more importantly was the style shift that occurred in filmmaking between the decades. I can't really think of anything today that they couldn't have done 5 years ago with these stories.

In an interview with the director, First Class was not a reboot but not much more was said about that. Probably more of what the comics do, with retroactive continuation to fix some continuation errors.

I've come to accept that Comic book movies (Aside from Watchmen) will always have to be loosely based. No way they can fit all those interlooping story lines with decades of history into a 2 hour movie with a budget.

Also I noticed that they were including obscure characters (ones that I had to look up on Wikipedia) like Darwin and Angel Salvadore (Lenny Kravitz daughter). It was to diversify cast, I guess so we don't get one that resembles Twilight.
