Ah, yes...There's no better sound in the world than the one you hear coming from the smoke detector right above you head when the batter is running low...:p:p:p
I'd prefer that to one chirping somewhere else in the house and trying to figure out which one every random interval 10-20 minutes but maybe not for another hour but then 3 times in 5 minutes....

So, because my mom is superstitious, and believes in curses and ****, she's spent the better part of a quarter century terrifying me and my sister. Her great-grandmother was only sixty-one when she died, her grandmother died at sixty-two, and her mother died at sixty-three, so she's legitimately spent the last twenty-five years utterly convinced that she was going to die at sixty-four.

Well, today, we celebrated my mom's sixty-fifth birthday. So, suck on that, curse!
Seventy-two and counting!

Is this why I am waiting 12 hours on my digital delivery of xbox code so I can by NCAA?!?

Also expecting a fedex that may be delayed. ruin my weekend.

Does not appear to prevent me from needing to go to the office today.

You know your weekend's gonna be great when your company-provided laptop "clocks out" way before you do on Friday...:p:p:p

Yeah, most of my company was down this morning. My office computer was one of the few that actually worked. I had worked late last night to finish up something due today (and am working remotely today), so I actually just took the morning off and let someone else with more urgent needs take over my office. Sounds like things are getting back up and running, so I'll log in shortly to finish up what I need to.

I'm still waiting to be able to get back on. Hopefully within the next 30 minutes (I am expecting a call from our help desk team here within the next 10-15 minutes). If I am not mistaken, most, if not all, of my company is now back up and running.

I went to a professional luncheon today (about 650 folks there) and one of the wait staff had a medical emergency (cardiac arrest) and passed away. Two folks from my company were right next to that person when it happened - one tried to catch them as they fell and the other performed CPR, but to no avail. I was seated at our group table about 100 feet away and at first we were not sure what was going on. The luncheon was cancelled after the organizers became aware of the circumstances. The fire department was there fairly quickly but I don't think it did any good.

Our supervisor gave everyone that attended the rest of the afternoon off to work through what we experienced today - he's a great guy and we're lucky to have him - he recognizes the importance of people and good working relationships and environment.

I feel horrible for the family, friends, and co-workers of the person that passed away. I can only imagine how my two co-workers feel right now. My condolences to all.
