Uncle Keegs

Wow. 4th shot, delayed layup. 5th shot wide open 3(great scouting dubs). The finish with contact. A give and go at the freethrow(Domas I think was expecting a pass back/GnG)... and he's big and strong, smart and mentally stable.

This dude's a gem.

Deuce said that he was told Keegan grew to 6’9 and increased his vertical by 4 inches over the summer. Could be just typical off season chatter but it matches what we have seen imo
Yeah that would seem to check out. There was a shot of he and HB standing side by side where it looked like Keegan towered over the guy while I feel like they were the same size when Keegan came into the league.
A surprise Giannis-esque growth spurt would certainly change things.

That's a very late "late growth spurt", so I'm left wondering if he might just be wearing thicker soled shoes. (I'm still waiting for my own late growth spurt but I'm afraid I'm even farther outside the normal window than Keegan is.)

I can buy 4 inches of vertical with training though.

The weird thing about Keegan is that his initial growth spurt that took him from random scrub size to college recruit size happened so late into his prep career that he had to do a prep year as a tall person to build recruiting momentum. I wouldn’t put it past a late bloomer to have a little bit of a secondary growth spurt a couple of years into his twenties. Especially considering the fact that the dude ate nothing but chicken and rice all the way until he became an NBA player.

Keegan was always a good dunker and leaper at Iowa, but I think he was a bit timid to throw it down in the pros. According to him, he and Fox have an ongoing challenge to see who throws down the best dunk this year... also according to him, he is currently beating Fox.

Increasing his vert by 4inches doesn't seem completely unreasonable if he went down to P3 in Santa Barbara or Fox had some really great trainers come to town...

I'm very curious on who they trained with this summer. Anyone know?

Agreed. That’s a masssssssive increase. Kris Murray had a 29.5” standing vert and 35” max vert which seems about right for Keegan. Your telling me he’s around 39” max vert now??? He might need to enter some dunk contests at this point ;)
Speaking of Kris, I was curious to see how he was doing on the Blazers.... yea, he's had more of a rough pro start to his season.

Mike Schmitz publicly loved Keegan before he got his Portland FO job.. he probably thought he would be getting something similar in Kris lol

Yeah, growing past the age of 21 seems pretty odd (and rare). Even past 19 or 20 isn’t commonplace.

The Dennis Rodman’s of the world are rare birds.

I’m thinking your explanation makes more sense.

We need a breakout game from Keegan tonight. He has played well the first two games but the shots aren’t falling. I like the more aggressive Keegan but he needs to make sure he strikes the right balance between assertiveness and taking good shots.

I agree but I think all of his shots have been good ones. I think shooting 41 percent from 3 again is going to be unlikely given his volume is going up and more movement 3s likely coming. I’m hoping for around 38 percent or so with around the volume he has had through 2 games.
