I don't think it's actually possible to evaluate NBA talent just based on a single rookie year. It's like being a juror that has the ability to tell if someone's guilty just by looking at 'em.

Once you have a 2nd year though... at that point you can extrapolate.

Yeah, I also think it's just plain fun to dream what Keegan could eventually turn into. Isn't that the whole point of being fan? We want our players to be awesome? There's a time and place for us to sit around and discuss logical outcomes, but after a 40 burger where he looks like a superstar...let's get crazy with the comps! Why not?
Here's a crazy comp!

What? I said it was crazy!

I assumed I'd be able to watch a replay but can't so I'm just a little bummed I missed it.

People are so dumb that Heat Miser guy posted like 100 tweets about it.

Kenyon Murray said the plan was to play two games so he could get in-game feedback on what he has spent the offseason working on. Maybe Summer League isn't the best competition for that, but it's the avenue he has.

Also Bam played year two of summer league IIRC so this guy is possibly a new Heat fan.

Maybe it’s good for young professional players to see how a successful young professional player practices and approaches the game? Plus - it’s all on the other guys in Vegas.

Also I missed the games but Keegan did play with the guys likely to make the team didn't he? Which is probably why he got the looks he did given last year when he was the only likely prospect on the roster and the showboats ignored him to showcase themselves.

how many people will overreact to this summer league performance?
Guilty. But I will say that the looks Keegan was getting were much improved from last year. By simply dribbling into a side step or step back you can see the bag is growing. You can also see how when he comes off screens he is looking to square up instead of holding the ball looking for an outlet or cutter.

One other thing that I think is noteworthy is he knows his shots are going in. With the first corner 3 he shot it and was heading back down court when it went in.

There is a lot to unpack from his 2 games at the Cali Classic, but the fact he upped his game in game 2 this year versus last year when he laid an egg shows the improvement in his game and mentality.

Dude is a robot. Keeg-bot. You program him with what he needs to learn and work on and he gives you a little smirk, an "OK Coach, I got a little wiggle", and goes to work.

He might not be that lengthy 3 and D wing we keep hearing get harped about, but he right now projects as a mid 20s ppg 7 reb per game player on high efficiency. And on a team with Fox, Sabonis, Monk, and Huerter projecting as your other high level scorers.

I wouldn't be shocked if Sabonis takes a step back into a 16 ppg guy, 10 assists, 12+ rebs in order to compensate for more Keegan volume and all the movement Vezenkov will create.

I have NO idea what is going to happen next year, but on paper the Kings have probably the most prolific offense ever seen, with a dagger split of 2 man action having either Fox or Monk holding the ball in crunch time. Might not even have to consider a wing defender if you just run everyone out the building by the 3rd quarter because of the wave after wave of scoring from all levels being thrown at them.

Keegan was so dominant that he had Miami Heat fans forgetting that they had Bam play PG for an entire summer league season
This is summer league which means he's only taking minutes away from players who will likely never play a full season in the NBA and if so, it will probably be on another team (most likely Miami). Heaven forbid we allow our second year player who will be a starter for us for at least the next decade get in some 5-on-5 reps in the off-season to test how his development plan is coming along before he spends the next 3 months grinding in the gym. Also... these games were in Sacramento so this was a nice gift for the hometown fans. The other guys will get more reps in Vegas and we don't have a first round lotto pick to showcase this year anyway.

It actually makes a lot of sense for teams to use summer league to develop their core players -- especially if they don't have roster spots left to offer contracts to any more undrafted players. By showcasing undrafted players we can't sign we would be helping other teams to scout them.

My expectations for Keegan this season haven’t changed regardless of the great performance. I want him to continue to shoot efficiently and just add a few drives and midrange shots to his game. I think 16-19 points a game is the goal and considering how many other guys need shots it might be closer to the 16 with more in the playoffs

I love that you're saying Domas might "take a step back" into a guy who merely averages a triple double from the center position...

... and yet when I read it my first thought was "Yeah, that's reasonable, I could see that"

These people naysaying Keegan Murray playing 2 games of SL before Vegas SL are just simply ignorant and/or looking to create controversy because they are super bored.

I mean, most all these players play year around. If they’re not playing for their country, they are constantly scrimmaging against other NBA players and aspiring NBA players. Hell, many superstars are scrimmaging against HS kids in their own camps!

Point is, these guys can get injured at any time. So that excuse is weak. Furthermore so is the notion that developmental opportunities are being taken away from others. It’s nonsense.

If we're being real some guys that would benefit from the extra 5-5 PT summer league affords don't do it because they are afraid they won't dominate every game "as they should".

Keegan did what he was supposed to plus he showed new tools he's developed. Anyone giving him grief a) probably wrote him off as a bad pick last year and b) probably didn't watch the Kings/doesn't know the Kings outside of 7 games in April.
