I think has some pointed out the Rockets have so many guys on rookie deals they need to take on salary. Their current cap with holds is 83M and the floor is 122M. Signing a Van Vleet to run the team for a couple years and mentor guys is a good signing.
I think the penalty is not getting a share of the tax payout, Yay. Unless there's some other downside they'd probably be better off keeping it low and striking later if they can't find a big name.

I posted this in another thread. He basically has the same measurements as Klay Thompson but (by combine measurements) he’s actually quicker and can jump higher than Thomson. Considering Johnson is a solid & smart defender, who’s to say that he can’t defend SGs if Klay can?
I agree but not much point arguing about what could have been.

The Nets were a sub 500. after the trade and got pummeled by the 76ers with Embid missing games in the playoffs......giving 25+ mil to a guy who is not a star player is not a great move imo. Are Mikel Bridges/Cam Johnson good enough to be #2/#3 options ASSUMING they can land a #1 option without giving either up?

To be honest I'd rather Monte not do anything rather than just make a move just to do it.

Might be considered boring, or not sexy, but probably the right move if there is not really anything that's great for the team out there.

Kind of respect it tbh.

Harder to be methodical and stick to your guns rather than just making a move to appease people which is what can kill a team tbh
Yeah, just don't create a scenario of too many bodies, not enough minutes. He got out of the PG conundrum pretty well, but not getting out of Holmes early was a mistake. If he could have anyway. He very well could have tried and didn't find any takers post Domas trade. Who knows. When you're scrapping to the top it's very easy to get stuck. Plenty of teams the last few years have been the jump team and ended up stagnating then being forced to over correct before it was too late. Don't wanna be that team. My big concern is this pretty much puts all the eggs in the Keegan/Monk carrying that 3rd star load, or Sasha coming over and being what he looked like over there. Both are possible. If not the Fox/Domas staggering continues until the playoffs when Fox has to disintegrate again just to keep the Kings in it.

I think the penalty is you have to give the difference to the players on your team.
Yeah, but that's at the end of the season right? I have no idea with the new CBA stuff but I think that was it. If you aren't up to 90% at the start you lose the payout for the year. If they are looking to make a superstar trade then at least keeping some of that space is wise.

I mean whatever the penalty they have room and Van Vleet is a great leadership model in the locker room. The just need their ton of talent to develop.

I haven't deep dived on Brooks, but he somehow is like super impactful, even though he's an atrocious offensive player.

And the defense is legit. I do buy that.
Oh ok.

I thought I recalled a poster saying his advanced stats were like right around average if not slightly above average for defense

So why hasn't he then? He's actually played more small 5 than he has moving up to the 2.

Again, I think he's a good defender. But he's a 4/3 through and through. That's been his spot his entire career.
But why is he a 4/3 through and through? He’s a more athletic version of Klay Thompson. Seems like he could handle himself at SG considering Klay was perceived as a top SG defender at some point in his career.

:)
I think that’s a top 4 guy type of contract and I think he can fill that type of role.

And 25% of you cap is a 0-6 year max.

Considering he will be in Brooklyn do we care.
