and I don’t think he’s necessarily better than Barnes. I agreed fully with Dlo and KC on any Cam Johnson talk. Not that Johnson was ever seriously connected to the Kings outside of fan suggestion.

That is purely Cam Johnson being somebody new for the sake of somebody new.

They are basically the same player template. Their numbers are nearly identical. Johnson is younger but older than most would think. Yet, he’s worth $10 million more per season? Based on what?
He is better for us. Cam is a better defender who can guard the 2-3 whereas Barnes is not quick enough. But what the hell in Kessler we trust

You do win in the NBA by not putting bad money on your books.

Even in the new cap, this Cam Johnson deal is bad. He's an amazing shooter and a reasonable defender, but there's no playmaking, he doesn't rebound, he doesn't get to the line. BKN better hope his offensive game can take a leap and he can be a reliable #2 at this tag.
His advanced impacts stats are pretty impressive. And this deal is only 18% of the cap. I don’t think it’s an overpay. I said from the beginning that I thought he’d get $25 mil or more. Not surprised by this price tag.

I believe he is better as a 2-3 defender than Keegan or Barnes but no way to prove either way.
That's not what you said LOL.

You said he's a 2-3 defender. Now you're changing it to he can defend it better than Keegan or HB.

That's probably true, but he doesn't do that at all or at any point in his career. So what would be the point, it doesn't address your problem?

People are freaking out about these numbers, but it'll be moot point because everyone is getting raises. I wonder how this forum will react when we'll inevitably end up having to pay Fox $50-60mpy in a couple years....

Cam absolutely is not guarding 2's, what are you talking about? He's been a small-ball 4 his entire career. He's the exact same mold as Keegan/Barnes/Kuzma, etc.
I posted this in another thread. He basically has the same measurements as Klay Thompson but (by combine measurements) he’s actually quicker and can jump higher than Thomson. Considering Johnson is a solid & smart defender, who’s to say that he can’t defend SGs if Klay can?

All NBA and presumably 3x all star Fox by that point - it's the cost of doing business for the best player on your team. These guys getting 30 million are 3rd options at best.

I haven't checked this year, but I wasn't too impressed in previous seasons. Maybe I'm misremembering, or maybe his BKN stint really was that good.

18% is still a lot, especially when your top players are taking 25%+ of your cap. This is a "you're a top 3 guy on our team" contract.

Dumb teams do dumb things. These GM's make these signings like Grant in Detroit, Bojan in Detroit, because they're dumb. Nothing more. Unless they get out after that first year and get something they end up getting nothing in return anyway lol. If Detroit traded Grant after his first year they could have gotten a ton. Then he's expiring, numbers go way down, and boom, late 1st and space. Yay.
I think has some pointed out the Rockets have so many guys on rookie deals they need to take on salary. Their current cap with holds is 83M and the floor is 122M. Signing a Van Vleet to run the team for a couple years and mentor guys is a good signing.

So why hasn't he then? He's actually played more small 5 than he has moving up to the 2.

Again, I think he's a good defender. But he's a 4/3 through and through. That's been his spot his entire career.

To be honest I'd rather Monte not do anything rather than just make a move just to do it.

Might be considered boring, or not sexy, but probably the right move if there is not really anything that's great for the team out there.

Kind of respect it tbh.

Harder to be methodical and stick to your guns rather than just making a move to appease people which is what can kill a team tbh
