Trade targets

Collins & Turner (while keeping Barnes)?

ATL Gets: Marvin Bagley, PJ Washington, & 2022 SAC 1st (Unprotected)
ATL Gives: John Collins
Why for ATL? Move on from Collins salary and pick up a cheap, young PF who can space the floor, pass, and play defense. They also take a flyer on Bagley to see if there is anything there worth keeping. Lastly, they get an unprotected 1st which is currently sitting at #5 to further add cheap & solid players to their core.

CHA Gets: Richaun Holmes
CHA Gives: Ish Smith & PJ Washington
Why for CHA? They can backfill Washington's minutes with Hayward, Bridges, & Oubre. Holmes is a big upgrade at C for them

IND Gets: Tristan Thompson, Davion Mitchell, Alex Len, & 2024 SAC 1st (Top 8 Protected)
IND Gives: Myles Turner & Keifer Sykes
Why for IND? Move Turner for Mitchell who fits well with Brogdon & Sabonis. Also allows them to moves Sabonis to full-time C and they get a lightly protected 1st.

SAC Gets: John Collins, Myles Turner, Ish Smith, & Keifer Sykes
SAC Gives: Marvin Bagley, Richaun Holmes, Tristan Thompson, Davion Mitchell, Alex Len, 2022 SAC 1st (Unprotected), & 2024 SAC 1st (Top 8 Protected)
Why for SAC? Huge push to win now. They keep Fox, Haliburton, & Barnes in place and pick-up Collins (24 years old) and Turner (25 years old) who give them a big upgrade in their frontcourt. Collins gives them another efficient scoring option and a great PnR/PnP threat to pair with Fox/Haliburton. Turner gives them a defensive anchor who can hopefully provide a lift to the bottom dwelling defense. Both Collins & Turner's shooting ability allows them to play 5 out and really open the floor for Fox to attack defenses.

PG - Fox / Smith / Sykes
SG - Haliburton / Davis / Ramsey
SF - Barnes / Hield / Harkless
PF - Collins / Metu / Woodard
C - Turner / Jones / Len

Mavs Trade Talk: 3 Targets to Consider with Hardaway Jr. Out (msn.com)

For the Mavericks, executing a trade for Hield would be a 'buy-low' opportunity. His overall scoring efficiency has declined and it's clear when digging deeper as to why that's the case. He's shooting an abysmal 35-of-91 (38.5 percent) on finishes around the rim and floaters within the half-court this season—accounting for 18.2 percent of his overall attempts.

The level of impact Hield has provided as a catch-and-shoot threat and on shot attempts off the dribble have both been efficient this season, both of which are areas the Mavericks would seek his impact. Where he runs into problems is his tendency to get into shot chucking modes at times.

A potential trade package could involve two of Dwight Powell, Reggie Bullock, or Maxi Kleber with a smaller deal like Trey Burke or Sterling Brown being involved to help get closer to a near salary-match.

Lets trade Buddy!!

Buddy 23M for Reggie Bullock SF, Maxi Kleber PF, Sterling Brown SG 21.4M No Picks in trade
Cut Ramsey, Woodard for roster space

Why for Dallas - they get a big time shooter
Why for Sac - We finally get rid of Buddy for smaller movable rotation players
Addition by subtraction

Fox, Davion,
Hali, TD, Brown
Barnes, Bullock, Harkless, King
Bagley, Kleber, Metu, TT
Holmes, Len, Jones, Queta

After lottery set we still can trade Barnes for a 1st, Bagley to move up in Draft (Get Young Wings)
Keep both Fox and Hali

other trade to add to above

Bagley , TT Unprot 2022 1st-High value to Atl for Collins

Fox, Davion, Ramsey
Hali, TD, Brown
Barnes, Bullock, Harkless, King
Collins, Kleber, Metu
Holmes, Len, Jones, Queta

Why Atl - saves them big cap space and gets great 1st pick
Why Sac - Uses all our Draft capital, but upgrades starting PF and reserves, keeps our Core
and finally dumps Buddy and Bagley

That’s a really good shooting team and has potential to grow. I would try to flip Barnes for a better defender. What about DFS? Move Buddy for defense.

Collins, Fox and Turner could handle the scoring, Halliburton looks to dish and hit threes. I think you just need a lockdown 3 to make that work on defense.

Wise move would be to get that first then through the draft.

No matter what the Kings do or who they trade, they need some 3 and D wings and quite frankly, a better protector of the paint. Get those players to add to the offensive assets. It’s the path forward and we just don’t seem to address it. Monte tried with Harkless and Davion but we need to replace Harkless and add a couple of others wings.

I don't know what happened with Harkless. He should have been a great fit as a designated bench defender who can hit enough corner threes to help space the floor but for whatever reason he really only looks like an NBA player about 10% of the time.

That's why a team like Miami who is modern BBall to a T played him like 6 mpg and was nearly out of the league. There was a reason. Mainly, the problem is one he was facing for awhile. He's really always been more of an on ball defender against SG types than a true 3/4.

That said, Joe Ingles is out. Monte better call up the Jazz and see if a perfect player for their system in Harkless interests them. Get out of that 4 million next year.

I thought they might have some interest in Buddy with Ingles out and a free agent to be but they don’t really have any assets we would want.

Harkless for Butler + Memphis's 2022 2nd rounder does work on the ol' Fanspo trade machine.

I'm pretty meh on Butler as a prospect but he's a defensive grinder and would immediately become our second best perimeter defender next to Davion (we could then go on to draft Kendall Brown in the draft for the ultimate Baylor Bear lineup). That Memphis 2nd rounder is probably going to be in the 53-57 overall range though so we aren't exactly extracting much value there either.

SAC gets: Turner
IND gets: 2022 FRP (Top 3 protected). Bagley, Mitchell.

Why for SAC: while giving up davion, a strong perimeter defender with high potential, they get an elite rim protector and low post defender who is capable of hitting the 3 to stretch the floor and would. Be a monster in the PNR game with fox and Hali.

Why for IND: they get a strong young guard who fits well with brogdan and lavert and could be their lead guard of the future and has elite on ball defense even now. They get a free look at bagley and have potential to save $11M if they want to pass on him in addition to the $3M they save on the salaries in the deal itself. They also get a FRP with light protection.

DET Gets: Buddy, 2024 FRP (Top 5 protected)
SAC Gets: Grant

Why for DET: Buddy gives a confident shooter next to Cunningham and DET collects another FRP for a player that doesnt fit their future and would hurt their draft stock.

Why for SAC: Seems like a lateral move except when Grant was in denver and wasnt needing to be THE man, he was a solid defender and a very efficient player. What we learned in DET is he can carry the scoring load if needed, but with Fox and Hali leading the show he can be his more efficient and defensive self.

CHA Gets: Holmes
SAC Gets: PJ Washington, Ish Smith

Why For CHA: Holmes gives the one of the best PNR centers in the league who has an elite level push shot and is a solid defender allowing plumlee to shore up their bench. For. Ish ans a PF who fell out of their rotation for the most part.

Why for SAC: Gives a guy in Washington with a similar skill set to bagley offensively but a better defender at half the price. It also allows SAC to get rid of the locker room drama bagley and his camp brings. In Ish they get a solid replacement for the role Mitchell played this year (defensive guard) and delon wright was last year. He is just a solid role player.

Kings roster
Fox/smith
Hali/TD
Grant/Harkless/Barnes
Barnes/PJ/Metu/TT
Turner/Len/Jones/TT

There is something really off putting about Turner whenever I watch him, yeah on paper the blocks and shooting are great but the guy just has a lot of things missing in his game. He's a elite 4th best player (Serge Ibaka OKC), but if he's your 3rd option or 2nd option your not going far. Turner is a guy who from a distance looks great but when you get him on your team.........As long as the Kings don't give up any picks for him I'd be happy to trade Fox/Barnes/Buddy for him.

I think Turner is a perfect big for Fox, not to replace him with. Turner spreads the floor, the paint should belong to Fox. Makes complete sense.

Building around Fox is a losing a concept. This team should be built around Hali. Fox for Sabonis. Filler on both sides.

Kings send Fox, Holmes, and a protected first for Sabonis and Warren (salary filler). http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ycpv6aa8

Holmes won't be of interest to IND with Turner there and you'll want much better defenders than Warren at SF/PF next to Sabonis. I'd look at the following trades:

CHI Gets: Harrison Barnes
IND Gets: De'Aaron Fox & Patrick Williams
SAC Get: Domatas Sabonis, Jeremy Lamb, & Derrick Jones

CHA Gets: Richaun Holmes
SAC Gets: Ish Smith & PJ Washington

BOS Gets: Buddy Hield & Mo Harkless
SAC Gets: Al Horford & Aaron Nesmith

That leaves us with a roster of:

PG - Mitchell / Smith
SG - Haliburton / Davis / Ramsey
SF - Nesmith / Jones / Lamb / Woodard
PF - Washington / Bagley / Metu
C - Sabonis / Horford / Jones / Len / Thompson

We also would still have all of our 1st round picks to continue to add to our young core of Mitchell, Haliburton, Nesmith, Washington, & Sabonis. It also sets us up for ~$60 mil in cap space during the 2023 offseason with the following players still under contract:
  • Davion Mitchell
  • Tyrese Haliburton
  • Aaron Nesmith
  • Robert Woodard
  • PJ Washington ($11 mil cap hold)
  • Domantas Sabonis
  • 2022 SAC 1st
  • 2023 SAC 1st
That is a solid, young foundation with heaps of flexibility going forward, and with Mitchell in the lineup instead of Fox, you have a shot at building an adequate defense around Sabonis (assuming you're actively looking to bring in the right defensive pieces).

Holmes and Warren are filler, so it doesn't matter to me. As long as the anchor pieces going back and forth are Fox and Sabonis. Indy needs to shed a bit of salary for it to work.

I don't think Indy takes that deal without at least one FRP (I'd offer 2023) but to me this would be close to ideal if there were any chance McNair could pull it off.

It also opens up the draft board for the Kings somewhat. I don't think Banchero would be a great fit with Sabonis but Holmgren and Jabari Smith could be. Ivey might have some of the same fit issues with Haliburton that Fox has, but I think Ivey plays better off the ball. He'd still need to develop his outside shot but would be worth gambling on. Likewise, if Shaedon Sharpe declares, you have to look at grabbing him to pair with Tyrese in the backcourt.

Kendall Brown may not have the upside of the guys I just listed, but he'd fit like a glove with that roster as the SF.

You could always reroute Nesmith and/or Washington to IND to give them incremental value while also protecting our future picks. If both Nesmith & Washington were sent to IND, it takes our cap space to around $75 mil during the 2023 offseason with Sabonis, Haliburton, Mitchell, Woodard, 2022 SAC 1st, & 2023 SAC 1st under contract.

I personally would like to hold onto Washington because I really like his fit with Sabonis, but I'd be more willing to sacrifice Nesmtih & Washington vs. our future 1st round picks. You could still trot out a Mitchell-Haliburton-Davis/Holiday-Sabonis-Horford starting lineup in the interim. I really don't want to put another C on the court with Sabonis, but it would be temporary as we'd likely look at drafting a SF/PF that would push Sabonis back to C. Keegan Murray seems like another great frontcourt fit next to Sabonis.

I like Washington's fit with Sabonis as well as Hali & Mitchell. He's actually a good fit with Fox too, but I think at this point both De'Aaron and the team need a fresh start.

One big thing that swapping Fox for Sabonis (and to a lesser extent shipping out Hield) would do is dramatically change the team's identity and style of play. Trying to win with pace will never be a long term winning strategy. But ball and player movement? That's a better recipe for winning basketball. Also a lot more fun to watch. I'm not getting my hopes up for this trade deadline, but it would be nice to see positive and significant moves get made.

Yeah, I agree. The ball movement across Mitchell, Haliburton, Washington, Sabonis, & Horford would be fun to watch, and you still have a hope at not being a sieve on defense with Mitchell, Washington, and the potential to add a good/great defender at SF.
