Off season targets

LOL The Pelicans got fleeced!
Eh possibly. Seems like a fairly solid win-win. Pelicans get the best NBA player by far, stay in the first round and can take a run at Lowry (for some reason?). Memphis gets a shot for another quality young piece and potentially 2 buy-lows on Adams/Bledsoe if they can stop their decline.

(A perhaps more valid thought is once the deal is completed, Memphis could turn and swap Bledsoe and Jon Konchar to Sacramento for Buddy Hield.)

I'm not sure I understand what NO is doing, I thought Ball was gone but here it says this will help them keep him? If they don't see a guy at 10 they want I guess it is worth the risk to drop down to 17. I get that they wanted out of Adams and Bledsoe ok. Why did they bring them in in the first place. I go back and look at that Holiday deal and try to see what they could have done instead. how is this going to make Zion happier? So many questions.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Valanciunas doesn't seem like a great fit next to Zion either and dumping Jrue Holiday last year then potentially shopping Brandon Ingram this year makes it feel like they're moving backward rather than forward. I suppose Valanciunas may have been desirable simply because he's a warm body with an expiring contract so they can somewhat sell their fans that they're putting together an NBA roster when really they're just planning on dumping everything but Zion and implementing their own version of The Process. That's really the only lens left where their moves make sense to me.

Honestly I don't watch a lot of him but he shoots one three a game, is that considered opening up space? I guess compared to Adams?

Launching a process 3 years into your lead's career is a bold strategy.

I don’t know why this rumor isn’t getting more love. Maybe cuz chances are slim but it’s gotta take less than what was suggested for Lillard or simmons.
I think Simmons is the only rumor that gets near universal love and that's because the Sixers are clearly screwed if they do nothing.

This rumor that just started today, it doesn't make a lot of sense? So how do you even respond to it. Like WTF are the Pels even doing do they want different players? future picks? salary dump? What is it?

Hey, I’ll offer Buddy Hield and Bagley and 9 and future considerations all day long but expect to get laughed off the phone.

Why TF would they trade a young ascending 24/5/5 guy for those scraps? Lol
Buddy is a spacer for Zion or maybe overall it saves them money and we can throw in picks to help there future cuz they’re not really win now. That’s all I got. I really don’t know what the Pelicans need besides whatever would make Zion happy.

I can’t imagine a conversation even starting without Fox or Hali.
Then a convo shouldn’t be started. At all. I’d love to get Ingram, but he ain’t worth giving up either of those players. I know Hali isn’t established like Fox or Ingram, but his potential is such that I wouldn’t give him up for a Brandon Ingram type player.

Buddy Hield has a lot of value. So do draft picks. If that along with a player not named Fox or Haliburton isn’t enough then so be it.

It’d be better to do nothing then trade the team’s young marquee players for a player that hasn’t really moved the needle anywhere he’s been either.

The whole idea is to build upon what you already have, not just exchange parts. If the KINGS can‘t find a way to add Ingram to Fox and Hali — what’s the freaking point?

I’m not a BI fan. He’s a talented dude - but he’s so weak with the ball and doesn’t create for others. But I’d trade Buddy and 9 for him in a second.

Tyrese Haliburton
#9

For

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

  • Thunder push back their timeline with Haliburton's rookie scale contract (SGA is due to get paid next season) and get another lottery pick to add to their assets.
  • Kings get their 2nd all star caliber (potential) player and move forward with a core of Fox & SGA

trading Tyrese for Tyrese in two or three years is an interesting idea but I’m not sure it’s worth the 9th pick.

I’d be shocked if Haliburton becomes as good as SGA. I have SGA on Fox’s level and I don’t have Halliburton on that same level from a potential standpoint.

Sounds like you think differently though.

I think Shai's really good. Solid offensive player who's a dog defensively. At the same time, I think he's sort of maxed himself out as a player.

Where Tyrese is concerned, while I'm not sure he'll become the Brandon Roy-esque player Shai is, I think he'll continue to develop both physically and offensively (though a lot of his offensive struggles sort of came down to him not having an NBA body yet) and, more importantly slot in next to Fox much better than Shai ever could as an elite secondary guard/facilitator. Also, we won't have to pay him max money for another three years.

All fair points. I think we just disagree on the idea that Shai has maxed himself out as a 23 year old.

I’m toying around in my head a deal that would have the bones of…

HOU Gets: #9
NOP Gets: Christian Wood & Harrison Barnes
SAC Gets: Brandon Ingram

We definitely need to give up more value in this trade but you’d have to think a front court of Barnes-Zion-Wood would be very complementary and solid. They’d have to reroute Valanciunas in this trade for some cap space, and if they did, NOP could add a max FA to that front court (either this offseason or next offseason).

Meanwhile we would commit to a Fox-Haliburton-Ingram core.

(A perhaps more valid thought is once the deal is completed, Memphis could turn and swap Bledsoe and Jon Konchar to Sacramento for Buddy Hield.)

Yeah interesting idea. Something like this would be the only way I'd be interested in trading Hali. SGA is basically what we hope Hali develops into.

Depends what our timeline is. If we're trying to push now, grabbing SGA is a solid move to and partner for Fox long-term. If McNair wants to punt 2 more years down the line, i think you keep Hali+9

I think both NO and Houston would want more in the trades. I don't see us getting Ingram without at least giving up Haliburton.

SGA sure makes a lot more sense than many of the other named being floated around. Like you, I’d be open to moving a player like Hali for a player like him. But OKC would be braindead to move him unless it was for a clearly better prospect/player.
